The minute I unlocked the Javelin I switched to it and I haven't used a different launcher since. People painting targets is so stupidly rare that It's just fucking sad. The one thing that I wonder is, if I started using the SOFLAM, how much good would it do? How many other players forsake their engie noob tubes in order to use launchers as they were intended and run Javelin? And out of those, how many are smart enough to go for the lased targets? Would the switch be worth it for my team?

SOFLAM will only "auto-paint" if a target is in its set up field of view. It will not auto track targets.

nerf the auto shotty/frag combo and remove the MAV riding ability and the game is there. the other fun thing about the soflam is how much it distracts the helo guys. put one up and man it to paint them and they will spend all their time trying to destroy it. that helps your team because they aren't focused on killing ground troops and vehicles.

in addition to the solfam, more of us finally got the third seat on the MBTs. I did and love riding the 3rd seat and painting targets. Not much on points, but well worth it to watch the helo boys crash their copters trying to avoid my laser. especially fun if the driver's running the guided shell or whatever it's called that's the vehicle equivalent of the javelin. me and my driver splashed 8 little birds on nosharh yesterday and I chortled with glee the whole game.

The soflam will laser designate vehicles even if its left unattended you can destroy enemy vehicles just by placing it facing the enemy deployment anything that exits will painted automatically

@StoneFaceLock as a helo pilot, you're 100% correct on the Soflam/CITVs. If I enter a server with 1 or more guys running those, Its damn near impossible to stay in the sky and thats with team mates on Vent crosstalking.

I think as more and more players figure things out, and quit trying to play this game like certain other shooters, the game will be much more difficult for vehicle whores like Me to dominate servers.

I like how everyone forgets all the terrible things in BC2 as soon as BF3 comes out, as if BC2 was perfect. Motion sensors, quick scoping, magnum ammo, carl gustavs +ext explosive damage, 32 player limit, inferior graphics and sound, poor server browser etc etc

outside of my squad i rarely get ppl taking advantage of the targets i paint. i dont use the soflam often but im always in the CITV paiting targets. seems only my squadmates run the guided shells. those 300 damage assists feel like they are going to take forever ! great vid man and keep them coming !

Probably why most snipers dont put up SOFLAM is because you dont get any points when you leave it unattended and staying with it is suicide.

I think the reason people are so unhappy with BF3 is bc BFBC2 was so perfect and there is also such a leap of realism that people aren't accustomed to this sort of change. I am unhappy with it too but I still play BFBC2 it is my number one shooter of all time there was not, I repeat not a thing wrong with that game.

The soflam laser designates both ground and air vehicles for engineers with javelins or vehicles with guided shells to lock onto, even when out of direct line of sight. Its incredibly useful for taking out any type of vehicle if used properly.

@SlimCargo it basically tags enemy vehicles so that the Javelin, or the guided missiles can lock onto them even if they can see them, and it lets the Javelin shoot down jets and helicopters, which it usually can't do

My only problem with BF3 is that singers are under powered you can`t take down the jets or the helicopters , no mater haw hard you try so i get kild by helicopers or jets and i can`t do nothing about it.

when i use the soflam and javelin the rocket never hits air targets. i shot 8 rockets at helicopters and jets moving at speeds from full in a jet to hovering in a heli and NONE even hit their target. I have no problems with the CTV and guided shells in the tank, though.

Holy shit i just stoped playing bf3 and i am sooooooo frustrated i bet my team does'nt even know what PTFO means and this is on rush in noshar canals attacking. 3of them are lying down ON THE SHIP TRYING TO SNIP ! As a sniper I think the SOFLAM sucks. It has a terrible locking distance and the rewards ain't worth the means. I have to find that one spot that will provide maximised coverage over the constantly changing battlefield and once I see a vehicle I have to keep the SOFLAM pointing at it because vehicles rarely stay where you want them to be. And even when they do it's not guaranteed that the dude with the Javelin is gonna be ready to take the shot.

@MrTurtle691 They have... And that's the reason why they don't use it. In a 64pl match it may be effective, but in a 24pl match, it under-performs. I state the reasons in a second post I made, but in short, I think it takes a lot of effort and commitment from the sniper to be effective.

As a sniper I only use the soflam if I know there's a guy with a javelin. And even then I don't feel like helping the team. More like helping him instead. I am far more efficient team player when I use the MAV or that spotting device.

I feel like I have to compromise my game to provide a couple of kills to the dude with the javelin. If the reward points where grater than the ones rewarded to the jav player then I wouldn't have any problem compromising my game.

Hey Stone, I don't know if you already know this, but the Jav' is much more effective if you yank the the sights up just as you get the lock on and before you fire - just like tracer darts and rpg/gustav in BC2. :)

@aksel3007 When a target is laser designated, it's painted. Javelins shooting at painted targets change the way they attack and hit the target from the top, rather than head on. They do a lot more damage and you can't lose the lock by using flares. You can also tracks things through terrain and obstructions if the recon keeps the lock on. It's a wallhack/aimbot-light and it's absolutely awesome!

I think most of the problems are seen in Console as in the PS3 VOIP and Input Lag issues. I think those two problems alone would make anyone quit, but people seem to have been sticking it out hopefully our patience is rewarded in February.
