I did the yeast thing 3 times, the 4th I thought it was all good yet my dough never rose the first time. Just threw it out, what a waste of time and effort. The recipe looks easy enough tho, I'm sure it has awesome results. Wished I got good yeast the first time(wasn't expired, I checked the temp). I'm officially into no-yeast bread now.
@monkichirmon Oh no! Sorry to hear it. The lady I learned from warned me never to buy the little yeast packets because even when they are not expired they often won't even rise. I buy mine in a bulk package instead.. I also store it in the freezer to keep it fresh.
Made some bread yesterday with powdered garlic, parmesan cheese and a hint of italian spice. Had it with dinner and it was lovely! I have half in the freezer for the next time I want to make pizza - it will be a great pizza dough I think.
@justdawne Sounds amazing! I'll have to try those ingredients soon. Thanks for the heads up. I use this dough all the time for pizza dough too. Have fun!
Omg your bread making is soo in depth. so helpful. step by step . even the mixing of the bread by hand. some videos dont show that mixing part of the flour.
I keep trying the yeast thing all over and over again. but my yeast doesn't look that way. instead it just stays at the bottom of the bowl and looks soaked while the water stays on top. please what's wrong? could it be the type of yeast?
@cherryboomboom05 A few things could be the problem: 1) if you are using yeast packets.. they can be past the expiration date. Check that. And even if they are not they may still be old. I buy my yeast in bulk and store it in the freezer. Have had it like that for 2 years. 2) The water may be too cold. If you have a thermometer try getting that water between 102-110 degrees. 3) how long are you waiting? It often drops to the bottom and then little by little starts to rise up.
@atrueclassic definitely. You may get a softer crust though because the bread will absorb the oil instead of making it hard and shiny like the egg does. But I do that sometimes when I've run out of eggs... :o)
You are awesome, hope you win You Tubes contest and you get to camp. Tried to vote, but had trouble, google errors come up everytime, I would vote everyday for sure. Life Re-imagined Project is timely. Thanks for all you do.
best bread-making tutorial i have ever seen. i am baking at home for 8 months now, i love doing this, and this video making it so easy to do! way to go Vanessa! great great video! love it! Barak Chayun, Calgary, canada
amazing. i wanted modern warfare 2, and my brother said he would buy it for me if i learned some crafting skills. i chose to make bread, but i still need to learn 2 or 3 more skills. and this tutorial was AMAZING. thank you so much. im now 25-33% closer to getting MODERN WARFARE 3!!! WOO!!! thank you so much again.
@DrahcirLXIV LOL. Glad I could help. I have some hand sewing tutorials that you may want to check out so you can tell him you know how to sew by hand. Check out my video "Hand Sewing Basics." Good luck!
Hi Vanessa, great video. I love the fact you took the time to show every step and all of the ingredients , plus you walk a person through it. My wife is trying it right now, I will check back with you and let you know, I am curious what other people are adding to this recepie. Thank you. Why don't you see if Foodnetwork is hiring, you are really fun to watch.
@rotor1851e Thanks for your post. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Let me know how it turned out. As for Foodnetwork.. I'm just a home cook... not a chef by any means. But thanks! ;o)
Great video! If I may ask... I've viewed a few "no knead" methods that others have shared on youtube and it seems most of them recommend 18 hours rest before baking. If I activate and feed my yeast honey the way you do would I be able to cut the 18 hour rest time down to a few hours like you do ? If you have tried the no knead method I'd love to hear your opinion on it, both pros and cons and how you would make your version of "no knead" bread.
@trentontrading Thanks! I've actually never tried the no-knead method. That's my favorite part of bread-making! I actually like to knead it. I find it relaxing. Plus I'm too impatient to wait that long. I rather knead and have fresh bread in a few hours. That's just me, though! Have fun! :o)
@MissCrystalStarr I think the bread flour has more gluten in it so it makes for a chewier bread so it's used in pizza doughs and breads. You can substitute all purpose flour in bread recipes but you wouldn't want to use the bread flour in a cake recipe for example. Hope this helps.
This looks great, I can’t wait to try it. Your instructions are clear and concise, very well done. Could this recipe be tweaked to make a sour dough bread?
i love the way everyone has his own way to make bread, it's such a versatile food. i've only just tried the recipe from "thecoolkitchen" so far and it turned out really well. i'll try this one next :)
@madammorgo I use bread flour because I can buy it in a 20lb bag. But you can definitely use all-purpose flour. Just don't use the self-rising kind. Have fun with it!
You really are the best! I made your envelope pillow case as my first sewing project, and wanted to check out your other videos. Keep em coming you got a fan in me :)
This video is one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen. You are amazing! Articulate, clear, pleasant, upbeat. And you've got amazing video presence. Why is it you need to go to an Institute... what more do you need to learn? You've already got it! Just make more vidoes! Bravo!
Okay, I've never made bread before in my life, but your video makes it look easy enough that I could make it at least edible if not pretty. I'm buying the ingredients the next time I'm at the grocery store. I had an aunt who used to make the best rolls with cardamom seasoning (typical in Swedish pastry). Unfortunately, I never got her recipe, but perhaps by adding the cardamom and using your recipe I'll come close to it. You've got my vote! Keep up the good work!
I LOVE making homemade bread esp in spring and fall. there is just something about a good chilly day fragranced with the smell of homemade bread baking.
I hope you win.. I love watching your videos.. i actually did the Pillow case dress for my niece, stockings for Xmas and BIBs for my sister's new baby boy.. YES your videos are easy and very very simple to understand... Good Luck. I'm gonna try the Bread this week and hopefully comes out great.
@AndreaInternauta LOL. Thanks! It's a proscuitto, brie cheese and tomato sandwich on homemade rosemary bread. Really easy to make. I drizzle extra virgin olive oil on the sliced open baguette. Layer a few slices of tomato. Sprinkle salt and pepper on tomatoes. Slice brie cheese and put on top of tomatoes. On other end of bread I layer a few slices of prosciutto. Put open-faced sandwich under the broiler for 2-3 minutes to melt cheese... that's it!
@sewsweet08 Thanks! This isn't sour dough bread. I don't know of a specific name.. it's just regular bread to me. I even put it in a loaf pan and slice it when its done to make plain ol' regular sliced bread. :o)
@hanalei29 Done! I've included my ingredient list in the video description. Also, please vote for me to win YouTube's NextUp Contest. The link is included in the video description as well. You can vote every day until Friday, April 8, 2011. Thank you!!
Is there a reason that you use honey rather than sugar? Is it just a preference?
