I was born in Burlington and lived in Greensboro and Charlotte before my family moved to another state. I had a very strong accent, and the kids in my new school would mock me because of it. It's just ignorance and prejudice on their part. Try not to let it get you down. I lost my NC accent a long time ago, but I still think that area has the most pleasant accent in the country. :)

I've been told several times that hardly anyone that lives in Phoenix is from here and that Phoenix is a big "melting pot" Well, that might be true, but obviously there's not anyone living here that's from the true South and I'll be so glad to move back to Kentucky in May.

In the Western part of North Carolina they speak like he does but it changes are you go East. He has a typical Southern Appalachian accent that is common in Western North Carolina, Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Tennessee. The Scots-Irish that settled here had a strong influence on the accent.
