This is soooooo funky. The puerto ricans of the past definitely were more in touched with their african heritage...culture and music....nowadays I can't say the same for PR Americans....heck, can't say the same of Black Americans either. Shame what institutionalized racism is capable of.

I was on the bus with one of my classmates she saw a very dark man and yelled out the window for him to go back to Africa and she was black+only a little shade lighter than the man we just saw!!! we had this entire discussion about it and she got extremely offended when I told her that she was about the same shade. I didn't even think being called dark was considered as an insult, but apparently it is in many African-Americans' book..... *sigh* it's sad.

this whole thing with "nappy-headed" and relaxing the hair of 3 years old despite the risk of the hair falling out or becoming severely damaged....it's crazy...You barely ever see young black girls rocking an afro and when they do, they get criticized and asked " why don't you go get your hair done?"

anyway..that was sort of a rant:)
