@volientgirl123 They're both in line for the Genovian throne. That, by its very definition would make them relatives. And I can't remember exactly the relation, but from what I remember John Rhys-Davies saying earlier in the movie, they're something like second or third cousins.

@VulcanTrekkie45 No, I'm pretty sure at some point way in the past Nicholas' family lost the crown to Mia's. If they ever were related, it was some 6 or 7 generations back. I think Mia said that when she accepted that she was going to have to have an arranged marriage.

The only truly clean break I can think of in European history where someone inherits the throne from someone completely unrelated to them is William the Conquerer. Let me give you an example: a lot of people think that the Tudors represent a clean break since Liz I had no children. However, she left the throne to James I, who was her first cousin once removed. So, Nicholas and Mia are very likely related.
