How old was your guinea pig when she gave birth? I have a 3 or 4 month old guinea pig thats pregnant and idk how old they must be and i dont want my female to die D: And How many months does it take for them to give birth ?? @JaveaGuineaPigs ur an idiot. guinea pigs wont kill their babies if you touch them and sometimes actually require assistance for the birthing process. the girl took the sac off its head so it could breath and, you know, LIVE. also, its her guinea pig and it doesnt seem upset that she's touching it or the babies so leave her alone!

@ErickEdible - you're right, sawdust is not a good bedding. However, shavings and sawdust are two different things. Sawdust is tiny particles, shavings are more like chips. Usually with shavings what affects their breathing is the phenols, or oils, in the woods. This irritates the lining of the lungs and can lead to breathing problems. Cedar is terrible, and non-kiln-dried pine is bad too. I use kiln-dried pine shavings, which have very low odor and very little dust.

Three of my piggies just had babies, and they were absolutely silent when they were giving birth. It's funny because all of my other pigs were absolutely silent as well, and they had been for about 2 days.

it's just an ID tag, it's the same use as a dog collar sort of and hurts less than getting your era pierced so calm down a lot of breeders do that

Well not be rude or anything but shouldnt youhave puttened the guinea pig in like newspaper or towels so the yellow stuff wont stick to them

If you mean the shavings - no, the momma will clean them off, and once the baby is dry the shavings don't stick to them. They only stick to them because of the birthing fluid and stuff that is on them, which the momma pig will deal with. Newspaper is not absorbent enough, though you can use a towel to dry them off, too.

Shavings is the sawdust-like bedding material that is in their cage, the stuff that is sticking to them in the video. It's made from pine trees, and is light and fairly absorbent.

Usually labor lasts around 30 minutes. If nothing happens after 30 minutes to an hour of contractions there is usually something wrong.

They did good with the pregnancy. The sow was still worrying about the other baby and the person helped remove the sac so the baby could breath.

You aren't supposed to touch a guinea pig during it's first half hour of birth!! It could be rejected by the the mother due to scent.

And they can be handled straight from birth, not advisable but they can be. Guinea-pigs are pretty independant within hours after being born so if anything were to happen, I doubt they would have had too much trouble :)

your not supposed to put your guinea pig in with any type of wood shavings. they will get respritoy problems and die....fast. If you do get a guinea pig make sure you get one at petsmart because they will tell you everything you need to know correctly.
