  • Sorry for every time i called Him "My Old Man" He was my Dad. 1902-1968

  • There was only me & my sister(5 1/2 yrs my senior). My dad died last July 5 & I still miss the hell out of him :-(

  • my veryyy best friend in the whole world just lost her dad to a helicopter crash .he was like a second dad to me ,i knew her family since i was in kindergarten,i still cant believe that something like this could happen to such a great family.they were planning on moving ,but since this was so sudden they are staying put .we all dont know gods plan ,any of us could go at any time, its so sad to think that everything happens for a reason even if we dont know the reason someday we will figure it out

  • Often I suck as a dad, but I keep on trying and I hope my boys understand as well as Steve did. My dad earned my respect and he was far from perfect in my mom's eyes, but pretty close to perfect as far as I was concerned. Now they have gone to death and I miss them both. Someday I'll go to death too and I wonder if anyone will care. I know I won't because I'll be dead and won't even know it. Yeah, it's a good song.

  • Beautiful.

  • awe ! .. beautiful

  • I live this song, the same way Steve did. My father is my hero.

  • My Dad was mostly an unemployed, violent alcoholic, but not always. And when he wasn't we had good times, so I always shed a tear when I hear this song.

  • This man was unbelievable. Listen to that heart in his voice. You can' fake that

  • The video is still available. And no, he wasn't drunk - Steve was totally in control and focus during all of it and gave a great, alert performance especially on this number. My guess is the studio lighting was pretty hot, and remember the guy had leukemia at the time.

  • THANKS FOR POSTING.........BEAUTIFUL

  • you might be talking about an "Austin City Limits" where he did an unbelievable version of this song.

  • @motuv Yeah, I know it's from Austin city limits. I bought it after my father told me what it was from.

  • there used to be some film of steve drunk and breaking up all sweaty and alive, singing this song with all he could muster... any one still got it?

  • i'm crying.

  • @alexanderalexanders does that to me every time . my dad raised me and my bother and sister after my mom passed away when i was 6 and now he has alzimhers.. he is still here but not ... and i miss my old man he still watches his wieght though lol

  • @alexanderalexanders so am i bro! so am i, as tuff as we might think we are, we all will always Miss the Old Man my Dad always sang around the house paradise was his fave Prine song he sang it alot! I'm Sure he is still singing it! sometimes when im off and lonesome if i listen really good i swear i can still hear Dad singing it!! even after 9 Long Years! R.I,P Dad I LOVE and MISS YOU SO MUCH!!!!

  • I never had dad really. He was a drunk and could barley take care of himself much less the family. You never do get over a life like that no matter how many years pass. A deep hole remains forever I guess, but never the less, I wish I would have know what it's like to miss him now. I just miss having a dad that loved me.

This is some great powerful beautiful song....thanks Steven.

  • I'd never heard this before. Thank you SO much for uploading it here. I miss my Dad SO much even tho he's been gone for 20 years. He raised 2 boys and 8 girls, I was the 7th. He was quite a guy!

  • @cky12qxz No ones, I got a lot of requests to put it up. So I did.

  • @cky12qxz

    Your mom's?

  • @IvanMesniaa Do you mind if I share this on Facebook for Veteran's Day? It always reminds me that most of my generation had dads who served in WWII, some moms, but nearly every dad.

  • @piscessunlibramoon Sorry I didn't get to you. I wouldn't of minded. I only mind if people have it on a blog etc and dont credit me.

  • @IvanMesniaa That's okay! To be honest I shared it out of emotion, then when I listened to it again I read your note. I pulled my FB entry but reposted. It links directly to you so everyone who visits will go directly to your post on YouTube. I really appreciate you posting this--being able to share with others is just as important as listening, and this is one that needs to be shared.

  • @piscessunlibramoon That's alright and yeah I agree with you. I planned on uploading the rest that I had of him, I have everything by him and Prine but I don't have much time to do it.

  • If you like this, check out "Roses and Bluejays" by Buck 65. A really lovely song about a Dad.

  • great song man!

  • Thanks for your kind thoughts and words Ivan - it's amazing how great music can reach you right down inside. Only just discovered Steve Goodman through the original "City of New Orleans' (surely one of the greatest marriages of lyric and melody ever!) and you can bet I'll be hunting down more stuff.

Good luck to you - you're a decent person

  • @thebadloser Thank you! I wish I still had all my Steve Goodman stuff, I lost it all while moving, i'll have to re buy it.

  • lost my dad seven years ago and this is the first time i've heard this song - cried for the first time in a long time

  • @thebadloser I'm sorry for your loss. I'm 21 and my father brought me up on John Prine and Steve Goodman. He sang this at my grandfathers funeral(was his fav song) and I'll sing it at his.

  • Pure - check where Steve's voice breaks at 3:31. Saw Steve & John @ Orch. Hall in Mpls waaay back- - gone too soon, Steve, you are loved & missed.
