5920 is discontinued, cheaper and superior models are all over the place. 5920 is heavy and encumbering. Go with other models if you can, I have upgraded to Aspire 5820TG with HD5650. way better machine other than no express card slot and the speakers are not as good as the 5920.
yes, 720 != 480, what i was saying is that if I connect it to my projector, it looks fine resolution wise and performs great even with a really high graphics effects.
HD5650 is ok, but awesome when at 650/1050mhz, slice through many video games above 30fps no problem!
@theikandy Ok, maybe via projector it looks ok, but I don't believe it can look ok on the 15" screen. I had a notebook with Ati 3650 and native resolution 1440×900 and the lowest resolution that wasn't totally horrible, was 1280×720 (and black stripes up and down because of another aspect). To be honest, every lower res than native looks much much worse, but I can't really imagine I play in WVGA. I tried Mafia 2 demo and the resolution needed to play it smooth was 1024×600....and it looked bad
wow, you get those frequency of Core and memory of Grafic so high :D i got them on 640Mhz core + 600Mhz memory :) Btw. i have all the same, only my grafic card has got 512 Mb

Hey man, if you even got this Laptop you should turn off Windows Aero because it is taking performance of your card.I did that too, i had 10 FPS more in Crysis :).
I got aspire 5920g with intel core 2 due t7300, and I got geforce 8600m gt, and guess what, both are changable, my grafic card is an mxm, and my prosessor can be changed.
I opened my laptop apart to check it out, and it came true.
i have this laptop and i have the shitty IMA x3100 i want to run wow at full max ultra quilty what laptop graphic card u suggest me to buy please anwser my question
@slyper8 you probably need a 1mm contact plate from the GPU to the Heatsink, the ATI board will sit lower tha the NVidia board, therefore not properly in contact with the Heatsink which causes the overheating.
Make sure you have the latest driver installed, I posed one of the newest signed one on laptopvideo2go site, after that, in the Catalyst Control Panel, make sure the powerplay is on Maximum performance. check the resolution you are using too.
@theikandy can you tell me if all of the ati raedon mobility hd 3650 512mb cards have hyper memory or even shared memory? does yours? i cant find the answer anywhere.
The HD3650 supports Hyper memory, this means it is depended on the motherboard/laptop you are referring to. And yes, with Aspire 5920, i do have Hyper Memory, pushed it all the way to 2GB yet it is only used when required which means the total RAM is still the whole 4GB i have installed for system.
I have fucking DDR2 version. But the part of the game you show us I played in 1440*900 with all settings high except shadows, objects and shaders without problems, FPS +30. But in the forest it lagged so I uninstalled it.
the GDDR3 version will be "faster" but on games that require more memory due to bigger maps or less compressed bitmaps, you will experience stutter/lags when you arrive in new areas or open doors where 512's performance will be slightly more consistant.
Oh, and btw. Somehow my laptop isn't fully functional atm, as Microsoft did another sucky job with the Windows, this time they released Windows before drivers were compatible. So I can't use my Acer Empowering Technology -.- and lots of other drivers are dysfunctional.
I am using Windows 7 64 bit, all drivers installed fine, if you can't find a driver for 7, you can use the ones from Vista, they work with each other as they both uses the same kernal core.
if they don't "install", right click and properties and in the compatibility tab, change it to vista sp2. this has worked for Launch Manager.
I also have a project that is something specifically designed to replace the need of Acer empowering Tech's ePower, it can be found here ...
I have Acer 5920G with an overheated (yes, useless too) NVIDIA 8600M GS card, with Windows 7 Ultimate build 7600.
And, no, I don't know how the hell I should proceed to change my graphics card. Want to put in a 9500M GS, though, but not sure what card would be the best for me.
chill chill!! ahha WarHead should run slightly better too, if you have 64bit windows, make sure you run it on 32bit, somehow 32 bit runs better for crysis at the moment. 64bit or the DX10 are NOT very optimized somehow.
Hey man, im really thankful that you made a video that responses to my questions :D but i'd like to have a little extre information. Could my laptop run it like your's?
processor: AMD Turion (tm) X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-72 2.10 GHz
Memory: 4,00 Gt
32-bites
graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Windows Vista Home Premium
Fujitsu siemens
So please answer me, i think i should buy this game, with one of the best graphics ever made so far. Thank you for your help
*sigh* Just found out that my 3650M is the DDR2 version. I'm kinda sad about that, I was hoping for GDDR3. Oh well, when I get my Asus G71, I'll have a GTX 260M, and I'll kick everyone's ass!
I'd like to upgrade my 5920g (I have the stock 8600M GT), but it already gets both CPU cores to >70°C if I even do a virus scan.
Portal puts the GPU and CPU up to around 80°C, which is just below the clock-down temp of 85. I run the laptop in low-power mode most of the time just to keep it cooler.
I think I'm going to forget gaming on this particular 5920g and go for a desktop instead.
Yeah, parts are cheaper than ever right now, just wish the Core i7's were cheaper ;).
Thanks for the diagrams btw, I did use it to take the base plate off my 5920g to get some dust out. My GPU was idling around 63 to 65C, now it idles at 55C.
There wasn't even that much dust... kinda scary to think a thin layer of dust blocking a few of the air intake holes could make that much difference!
in my opinion, they are more expansive, it takes more material to make the products such as the evolution of Video "cards" to Video "boxes"(if you have seen the newer video cards). But if you meant by the process power you get say for $500 vs what you can get 2-3 years ago, of course it is cheaper, ;).
Hi i´m going to update my gpu from 8600m gs to hd3650 (acer 5920g) i´ve seen the link from the info of your video about how to upgrade the gpu. Do u have any more suggestion about that?i´m a bit scared thanks alot
Hey i'm getting a laptop with: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5750 (2 GHz, 667 MHz, 2 MB Cache) Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium 3 GB Memory 250 GB Hard Drive Blu-ray Combo drive 16" CrystalBrite widescreen Display ATi Mobility Radeon HD3650 Graphics Card dedicated 512 mb Graphics Memory do you think I can run crysis on the same level as you with these specs? Please reply, thanks.
That is seems higher then usual, 725 is for a desktop clock speed. the general clock speed is 450 to 600(most common), in my case, I had 680, which is already gets pretty hot in a laptop. DDR2 or GDDR3 will affect the performance on the HD3650 greatly too.
well, i don't ask for much, I am not the ones out there spending thousands of dollars on gaming rigs, this is merely a demonstration for after market graphics card.

That resolution is sh.t, the game looks like crap , you better lower deatail level and set higher resolution (native resolution is best for graphic quality).
I tried that, but I prefer effects over resolutions. this resolution is bearable, higher then DVD quality. plus, looks horrible because I had to record this video in 320x240, 640x480 on the camera wouldn't work that day for some reasonj
seems to me that it is got 3650 as well, but I don't know the clock speed for the toshiba ones, usually they are 500mhz or 600 mhz in standards, mine came to 680mhz. the toshiba one comes with ddr2, you might not be able to run higher resolution games.
Found this video very helpful, currently looking at a Acer Aspire 5920GS myself, for a friend who wants a laptop. Would you be able to pm me some screenshots at those settings? Also how much of a fps improvement did you see in crysis or any other games moving from the 8600m gs to the 3650?
I replaced it with HD3650 due to 8600m gt downclocking issues, and also, I scored 4600 in 3dmark06 without overclocking. the previous 8600mgt 512MB I had can't even go over 4300 after extreme overclocking(625/1250/460) even though it is DDR2, but I don't think it makes that much of a difference.

800×480?! Must look awesome on 15" screen. Don't you wanna try lower gfx settings instead of this horrible res?
ZlutyPanter 9 months ago
@ZlutyPanter I prefer effects > resolution :D, plus, that is what most of the games runs on xbox, ps3, they rarely go 720p
I am using 5820TG now, and it has HD5650, runs crysis at the same setting at native resolution just fine =D
theikandy 9 months ago
@theikandy 1) 720 is not 480 :-D
2) Xbox and PS3 suck in comparison with PC
3) 720 on the TV doesn't look the same like lower res on your PC screen
4) 5650 is ok ;-)

I meant for the video card- I found a good deal with this card, so I plan to get it based off this footage.

8600m gt ddr3 is better
ANDRESSOSPINA 3 years ago
I replaced it with HD3650 due to 8600m gt downclocking issues, and also, I scored 4600 in 3dmark06 without overclocking. the previous 8600mgt 512MB I had can't even go over 4300 after extreme overclocking(625/1250/460) even though it is DDR2, but I don't think it makes that much of a difference.
