@sereda008 In this particular modeling example, like in most other furniture modeling examples, using plane object with texture stretched over is the most practical approach to bringing visual reference inside 3ds Max. As a quick example, try to assign background image (Alt+B) to Viewport, regardless of which view you choose for that Viewport, side, front, left, etc... you would still see the same background, that may be confusing. Or, what if you need to bring two reference images at once?
Can u make a video of how to model the exterior of a house.... A nice house with lots of detailing and how to ad materials to it with mapping and bump...... PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE..... You would be the only one with an Architectural Visualization modeling video tutorial for all the others like myself who want to learn but cant find a good enough tutorial.... Thank U
@dimpilsPEACE Sorry, but that requires a much longer tutorial. At the very least, I suggest you buy the '3ds Max 2009 Architectural Visualization Intermediate to Advanced' book (Google it). It covers how to make walls, windows, doors, roof tiling, and other components to make up the house. If that's not enough, then buy the "3ds Max 2011 One Project from Start to Finish" book we just came out with. It's more advanced & like has very large tutorials in it.
@3das3dats Do you need any math for this cool stuff? I have the determination for it all....just don't like to do it wit numbers. I like to do it artistically, even if i must do constant lines if necessary. Just.... no numbers to think of (or C++)
@enlighteneveryone As 3ds Max continues to grow, you see less and less usage in math for modeling. However, to get exact measurements, it will always require math (more arithmetic than complicated math). The programing (maxscript) is generally used for dynamic scenes such as particle systems or collision detection. Even then, there are plug-ins that satisfy most issues.
@Warbeast31, although you can apply mapping to the Plane object using UVW Map(Bitmap Fit) modifier, - you will need to uncheck Tile checkboxes on Coordinates rollout of the material that you applied to the Plane object, otherwise reference image will be unnecessary repeated over the surface of the Plane object, not to mention other disadvantages of such method. It's personal preference, however for furniture modeling in general I recommend technique is described in this tutorial.
Alt+B... Why not use that instead of a plane?

Hi,
No need to know the size of the texture, just UVW mapping modifier then Bitmap fit ;)
