I actually don't really understand some things: at first: is it the case, that it doesn't really matter what the On and Kun reading is because they both would be used the same way? could I just memorize both "translations" (Kanji->sound) together and mix them up without caring? and is there a practical reason why the Kanjis are still in use? to me it makes the appearance, that they don't really shorten the sentences in contrast to only hiragana, do they? :)
I must say I did struggle with this lesson. It got confusing. Sun Moon Moon (mei getsu) means bright moon. Aka rui means bright; bright + rui = bright...?
@ImTooSexyForMyself I need to worry you a bit. There are many homonymes in Japanese. And actually aka-rui - is bright, and aka-i - is red. It's a bit deifferent. Anyway, back to homonymes. There are some words that are spelled the same but have different writings. e.g. kami can mean "hair", "god" or "paper", depending on writing and context. Some words can have up to 15 meanings/writings. so...
@GrubbyTubby@GrubbyTubby i guess you can use it like that, in chinese that means tomorrow haha, and i dont think the japanese uses any kanji for ashita, could though :3
明(Aka) 明(Mei)=Bright (Depends on context you use it in) ^-^
月(Gatsu) Means moon and 明(Mei) Means bright, but literally means sun moon, both are bright but there are two so not one is overpowering the other. So 明月(Meigatsu) would literally mean sun moon moon. You get it? It throws it off balance now because there are now two moons and one sun, making the moon the brightest, which leads to the meanig bright moon.
the "to nake ling story short..." everytime is really annoying; besides that great lessons, but why not more often? those lessons will be much more effective if they were daily, at least weekly.
Hi, when drawing the sun kanji on some vids people join up the bottom right corner on others people leave a bit sticking out. Does this matter. Also the middle line does that have to touch both sides.
at first time I thought Kanji so difficult but now my attitude has changed
Kanji is really easy to learn (if we started from japanesepod101)

How do you prevent yourself from getting confused between Red and Bright since they are both 'Aka'?
DonNoypi 6 months ago
@DonNoypi There is another Kanji for the color red, it's 赤 so you'd just write that instead of the hiragana for aka.

Chinese characters were invented in China 4000 years ago.
However, there are the Chinese characters invented in Japan.
For example, the ninja shinobi(nin) was invented in Japan.
In China, there is no kanji for shinobi(nin).
There are also many Chinese characters was invented in Japan.

Kun-reading is in Real Japanese. "あかるいakarui" means ligh or bright.
Of course you can use Kanji if you want. "明るいakarui".
Then...
On-reading is in Old Chinese. and.... In China , One Kanji has One Mean. Chinese Kanji DON'T need Hiragana and Katakana.
When Japanese use Katakana to teach(or learn) how to read On-reading.
「明mei」means ligth or bright
