I've got a beta version of Longhorn, and I must say: it sucks. Very buggy and glitchy, and startup takes forever. Still the theme is probably the best Microsoft has ever designed. Maybe they will use the design in the new windows...?

Because it was buggy and ran on the core files from Windows XP. If they continued in the Longhorn direction it would be more bloated, slower, and have more bugs than the current version of Vista. :S

Seriously, had things went like this in Vista, it would have been a much, much better OS. And what are we getting now? Although Windows 7 seems to fix a lot of Vista's flaws, I still find it quite dull, still not having the uniqueness Mac OS X has.

But still, it needed a large load of drivers, it had many unlogical wizard's and is still very hard to use, and I see even more copied features in 7, like icon control witch Mac OS had since 1992, in Mac OS 7, and with windows sidebar gone, it's even more like dashboard. and alot more.....

You're pretty stupid, Mac has drivers and setup wizards and has way more crashes. A computer has to have device drivers or it would be unusable because NO DEVICES WOULD FUNCTION.

Mac has crappy setup wizards that offer virtually no advanced options. I'm not sure what you're going on about, Windows is the easiest operating system to use and the setup wizards are simple even when you do use Advanced options.

I'd continue but char. count sucks.

@KevKo95 I have not had a single crash on my mac, and have one almost everyday I use my PC, with Mac you don't ALWAYS need drivers, sometimes, but less then windows. For advanced options go into system preferences. I have found Mac is way easier to do things that would be almost impossible on windows. I used windows for mos of my time with computers, until 2009 and have had no problems with my mac.

@gtgidemgreen Yes, all computers must ALWAYS have drivers. Otherwise the devices wouldn't function. Mac has FAR less advanced options than Windows. I can customize nearly every aspect of Windows and my entire system as a matter of fact. With a Mac, you can barely even customize the appearence. Either you can have Red, Yellow, and Green buttons, or all gray.

cmon people... cant u c this... it was just a concept presented in a high rendered video... its not a build of windows... it was what vista was supossed to be... they never could make the GUI neither the OS work like this... they tried a lot (remember the diferent builds of vienna and longhorn) but they never achieved this OS... so what they did (obviously) reverse engineered OSX and shipped it as vista.. this presented in the video never existed it was all made in a computer animation studio =(

I have to agree with AeroCrossX. This was an advertisement in 2002, so it must have been made in that early year, maybe even before it.

That UI would be incredibly a resource hog for computers of that time. Maybe not now, but in 2002 it would have been 5x what Vista was hogging.

I remember back then a buddy of mine from microsoft (software tester) showed me Longhorn for the first time. I was amazed at the leap microsoft was taking into the whole visual side of it. Looks nicer than the current Vista in my opinion.

Thats not Vista at all.

There are two versions of Longhorn. Microsoft Longhorn, and Windows Longhorn, Windows Longhorn was later on to be renamed Vista, whilst Microsoft Longhorns production halted after a while. They brung it up again at 2005 (I think) and developed Windows Vista.

You are right, it is Longhorn. Also, you can see some of the features in Windows Longhorn that is not in Windows Vista. All that animation you see, not in Vista. LOL, why would you need a 1TB Hard Drive? Vista is only 4 to 10 gigs depending on your version??? Vista can run just fine on a 40 Gig hard drive (so long as you don't have lots of pictures, music, videos and games) 2 gigs of RAM, Pentium D 2GHz and a geforce 7300 GT. It's funny the way people that don't even know what CD-ROM and DVD-ROM stand for, think they know enough to give a professional rating on Vista.

What a joke. You're comparing a then-being-developed OS (Vista) with a then-current OS (OS X - Jaguar I believe it was), which is an excellent way to spread disinformation. The correct comparison is the currently-being-developed OS X (Panther) with the currently-being-developed Windows (Vista).

MS centred the advertising around search, or as we already knew it, Spotlight - their version thereof. They didn't invent the use of sidebars in OS, and Apple may have started Dashboard developed earlier.
