If you enjoy working these hours, then that is fine, but in Europe, workers have fought long and hard to reduce work times, shedding blood and tears. Now, employers use the threat of cheap products to force longer hours on European workers. A good life is not just about earning money, but also having free time, so that a family does not break apart.

Worker productivity has gone up and up, but most of this efficiency is used to funnel more money to the top.

France was the first country to sign this into law.

But when they open up for competition with an economy that does not have this law, it is an excuse to make their workers work longer hours for less pay, despite years of fighting for better conditions.

I hope people understand this.

I'm not saying we should end global trade - just that we need to stop people from using it as an excuse to exploit workers.

Okay I may be slightly biased seeing I am a "Western Imperialist" (LOL) but not sure if its just me...but if I was in the same situation like the Chinese 50 yrs ago(or other poor countries) I'd much rather be "copying" the West than trying to be "different" and living in poverty of unimaginable proportions. I dont really like the US and what we do over here in UK/ Europe, but at least we have decent standards of living.

In total output it has just overtaken Japan but japan has only 125 million ppl (like 11 times less !!!! its about GDP per CAPITA. not total GDP. Yes, many coastal places and big cities like Shanghai , Beijing, and especially HongKong have already got a very high standard of living but many parts of China are still developing.

OMG! THIS PART OF THE DOCUMENTARY BASICALLY TOLD THE TRUTH ABOUT 1989 JUNE 4!!! THE TRUE OF WHAT HAPPENED & THE REASONS BEHIND IT WITHOUT BIAS AND MISINFORMATION! This video basically clears the AIR for CHina! That Tian'men Sqaure was NOT an attempt to over throw the gov't or that the gov't was suppressive to its people to begin with! Tian'men Sqaure happened for reasons completely detached from what western media had ingrain in all of us!

@popoTb The t-square story in western media is somewhat distorted, but that does not mean they are totally nonsense. The political suppression played a role, parallel with the economic and social issues, in this event. The western media only tell one side of the story, just like what they do in many cases. However, compared to CCTV, I think CNN is more credible. CNN distort less than CCTV in most cases. oh... sorry, I forgot you don't understand CCTV.
