For those trying to claim this is Autoland. It is not. No pilot trusts a landing in such winds to the computer. Additionally, Autoland has a limit of 15 Knots. Autoland is for low visibility where a pilot cannot possibly see / know what is going on, it is NOT to make up for "inability". What is beautiful about this landing is that it was done entirely with passenger comfort in mind, you could do this with far less effort, but far less comfortably.
@outfromtheshadows if the airplane is straight with the runway on approach, and there is significant wind speed coming from a certain direction, it will blow the plane off course. so they steer into the wind, maintaining whatever speed they need to still be lined up with the runway so they can land safely
I was landing in a crosswind @ RDU once and the plane was jumping around on approach. The landing was fine, but it was uncomfortable with all the bouncing around.
Great execution for crosswind landing. I love the touch of just enough rudder to swing it back just before it sank down on to the runway. Now that is skill.....all the way! Superb.
I was a flight engineer on the L-1011 Tristar and it's autopilot can land in a direct 50 knot crosswind just fine! It will crab in the approach and then transition at 150 AGL (called Align mode) into a wing low, crossed controls, landing. With strong crosswinds, this will require landing on one main gear first, then the other. The DC-10 and B-747 have a similar auto landing system. So, on these a/c at least, they do NOT land in a crab, which is extremely hard on the gear and is not recommended.
@rfresh1011 The autopilot will not however straighten the aircraft up prior to touchdown. It will land crabbed, and then straighten up after touchdown (as long as the autoland feature on the aircraft is rated to do so). The 737 autoland for example does not feature this, whereas the A32X autoland does.
Un vrai patron dans le pilotage. C'est excellent, et celui qui pretend dire, kil ne l'aime pas, ne connait rien en pilotage. En tout cas, BRAVO pour ce pilote!C'est merveilleuxxxxxxxxx

@chicogiz Of course the vast majority of BA flight crew are British. They're our national flag carrier; where do you think the pilots are from? BA aren't a cheap budget carrier like Ryanair, employing East European pilots on cheap rates!
This is the airline that landed the following year in Kuwait two hours after the Iraq invasion in order to land British undercover military operatives, risking the lives of over 350 passengers.
The same airline whose senior management threatened a British HIV positive passenger with arrest unless he left the relative security of the transit hotel in Kuwait to report to an Iraqi controlled hospital.
Autoland highly unlikely here. We use it only under cat 2/3 conditions as long as the winds are within limits and ils protections are in place. I personally have only used autoland once in the last 6 months on the line. Landing could have been done here by the first officer or the captain depending on who's sector it is.

Aproximação maravilhosa e pouso perfeito. Alguem me disse certa vez que no 747 vc não pode dar a asa para compensar o vento, tens que tocar atravessado mesmo.
@aaronman6188 Lots of rudder but you also have to compensate for one wing facing the wind at a different angle, which creates more lift on one side - so there will be small aileron adjustments there too, whilst all the time making sure the wings are level, and the rate of descent and then flare angle are kept correct so thrust and elevator inputs possibly. A lot of work going on here, it looks easy but that's because it's a damn good pilot!
@xNzzyz Well they don't really have the full weight of the aircraft on them when the aircraft is twisting to align, but the trucks on the main gear are engineered to cope easily with much worse than this - the inboard mains actually do steer when the aircraft is taxiing so they wouldn't mind a bit of twisting on touchdown. Somewhere on YT there's a video of a 747 landing at Kai Tak, after the pilot misjudged the final turn. It's a good demonstration of what 747 gear can withstand!
I would agree - nice touch, and it looks definitely like a "touch and go"; spoilers never deployed, and you could really hear the engines "spool up". Nice video.
@mmichaeldonavon This is not a touch n go, you can clearly see the reverse thrust in action and that's where the noise is coming from too, finally you can't see the spoilers because of the angle.
@mmichaeldonavon Nope, you can see the spoilers quite clearly. The engines also go reverse, just idle reverse. Note the slats stowing too. Full stop landing.
I thought the wheels would rip right off when it hit the ground! Last British Airways jet I was on.... I watched the pilot playing Sony PSP while he was landing, so I think pirochip is correct about auto land.
@pirochip Actually, for the 747, most airline have a rule that if the Crosswind is more than 10 Kts Tailwind and 10 Kts Crosswind then the plane will be landed Manually, this is obviously more than 10kt crosswind, so it is a Manual landing, Just takes a skilled captain with Years of experience, and also, pilots Very rarely use autoland
