SPman is right - not a patch on the Searchers. They also had the knack of spotting a good song and making it a hit. Needles & Pins was only a minir US chart entry until they worked their magic on it.
Jackie deShannon originally recorded it in 1963. It only made #84 in the US charts (did better in Canada, I believe). Searchers heard Cliff Bennett singing it in Hamburg and did their own version. Rest is history. Sono Bono had a hand in writing it.
