  • Hi Craig, just brewed my first batch of coopers lager, Thanks too you ;)

  • hi looking at doing an apple cider any hint n tips i currently have my first brew on and went out n got second kit for cider was told straight apple juice will make it too dry and to add pear or blk crnt juice ????

  • RE: the concrete wall, you need to strip the paint off then use a solution of Hydro Chloric Acid to "etch" the concrete so that the paint will stick to it. And paint it with a paving paint.

    Cheers!

  • Amazing!!! You love beer, like what what you make and enjoy it. Cheers Man. Thank you for showing how awesome you are and sometimes I reference you when I have a bad batch or just to make sure I did QA on it. YOU should charge for the advertisement you make for homebrewing.

  • Another fine how to home brew video! Thank you!

  • is it safe to drink the beer after 4-5 days after the first fermentation is complete. i just bottled em and. is it safe to drink them now?

  • You're a total legend.

  • Please paint CraigTube on that sad looking wall or maybe a poster.

On the brew thing do you ever use other sources of sugar like honey,or corn sugar?

  • @TheJustonemore I have used honey and brown sugar, which I really liked. That dreaded wall. It's concrete and the paint is pealing. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.

  • @CraigTube Paint it ?? LOL

  • I never stir the yeast in. Ale yeast are top-fermenting so I keep them on top of the wort where the yeast bed forms. But, as long as the yeast are working, it doesn't really matter.

  • Thanks a lot Craig, I actually saw both video series (home brewing and easy home brewing again) and found them much more helpful than a book that I was reading, so I guess am ready to go :-) Antonio (Ireland)

  • Thanks ... the video was very helpful for me. I will be getting my first kit soon.

  • Craig, on my spigot that came from High Gravity Home Brewing, it only has 1 o ring.

Should it have two o rings for the inside of the bucket and one for the outside?.

Do you recommend me getting a 2nd o ring, if not, does the 1 o ring go on the inside of the bucket or the outside?.

I'm using a bucket with spigot as a fermentor like you do.

  • @OhioAirsoftVids I would put it on the inside. That's where the beer is and where the seal should be. Cheers.

  • I'm starting my first kit, a Cooper's Dark Ale tomorrow! Your economical, balanced approach to home brewing was very encouraging to me, Craig. Thank you for the guidance in starting to save some money on beer! I'm from New Brunswick, and I hear ya about the beer prices! YIKES! My kit cost $25 dollars total. I could just buy a 12 pack with that here. Instead I've bought 60 pack! Sweet deal!

  • My first batch of beer used White Labs california ale yeast, it was a preactivated liquid yeast, and when i opened it it smelled like bailey's irish creme.

  • if it blows out can we see what that looks like i have been watching your videos for a few weeks now and i'm thinking of giving this a try. most likely with a kit at first since i don't own any of the equipment :p

when i do i'm going for a verry dark brew since i have to pay a small fortune for dark dark beer here.

  • Craig,I have a question on the equipment. Where can i get the equipment you showed in the video?

  • its hard to be an alcoholic on canada prices aye?thank god for homebrew. i also brew with extracts here in kansas and you just enlightened me on some things .this is your best and most informative vid yet.. i do it because i enjoy it. im just sorry you have to because the prices are so rediculous. at least canadiens have a real health plan. brew on man.

  • Have you thought about making a non-bottle conditioned beer?

  • I have no plans for that right now.

  • Why do you use the yeast that comes with kit? why dont use the kit but use a Propagator yeast pack instead?

  • Well, to answer your question.... because I don't have to. Simple, easy, beer taste great, end of story. No need to go any further.

  • im gonna brew my first batch, what is the difference with the propagator yeast? is there any process that is different or do you add it the same way?

  • I feel that you have to do whatever works for you in brewing. Some things Craig does may not be by the book, but if they work and he is getting great beer then brew on.

  • wow, nice, thx for new tricks ! (new for me)

  • i agree-stir the yeast in. in fact, i pitch the yeast, stir vigorously, let it sit 10 minutes & stir vigorously again. it does indeed incorporate oxygen, which like you said is a good thing at this point.

  • what about clorination in the water , itll give a taste to the beer ?

  • If you don't mind the taste of your water, then it will be fine. If you're concerned, you can use bottled water but it will cost you extra. I prefer bottled, but I'm fine with tap. I'd be more concerned about the fluoride. You can't taste it, but it's not good for you at all. Look up "fluoride in tap water" on google or youtube.

  • Cheers Craig!

  • hey, craig nice video again!

just a quick question if you don't mind answering. i talked to a brew supplier manager and he said its okay to use carboy up to 5 fermentation but if you use more than that it might change the flavor of the beer. have you experienced this kinda problem??

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "up to 5 fermentation".

  • i am sorry. i meant after you brew your beer 5 times.

  • Why only 5 times? I'm not sure what he means.

  • Love the vids Craig. I'd love to see you have a crack at distilling some spirits and making bourbon or rum. I do this lots and i love it.

  • Hey Craig.

Still having trouble with that damn video of mine lol...

Just a suggestion here, how about an 'inmate brewing' video? I personally think it would be quite interesting to watch you do it that way. Obviously it wouldn't taste as nice but would be helpful for beginners who don't have all the equipment yet.

    Whaddaya think?

    Darren.

  • That's funny. I've already planed to make one. I almost did it last night but all I had was a frozen concentrate can of juice. I want to do it with a sealed bottle of juice to keep it simple. I'm going to combine the video with one I just did about airlock blowouts. It's only 3 minutes so I'll put the inmate brewing on the end of that.

  • First off, i started watchin your channel for the beer makin videos when i started makin beer, i only made 1 beer kit batch, since then i love making good'ole grain's, i don't use a mashtonn i use the extract but do the grains in a muslin bag setup, makes beautiful beer. OK now down to bizness i find the best way to add the yeast is to airate the beer with the stirrer and sprinkle the yeast on top, i use liquid sometimes and find its the same damn thing lol as the cheaper dry yeast, great vids!!

  • If I could easily find the grains around here, I would give a try.

  • Craig. Very good videos, enjoyed watching them even though I feel I've got the kit brewing down to a fine art. I do have a question for you if you don't mind. I have some books on the topic of brewing and in one of them it is stated that the yeast residue that forms on the surface of the beer and on the sides of the container should be removed. What is your opinion on this, if any? I would appreciate your thoughts. I think it is too much hassle and is merely an opportunity for contamination.

  • I agree with you. By the time there is enough build up of yeast, it's time to bottle anyway. I'm not willing to open my fermenter every day to clean it and let air in.

  • Great Videos Craig. I watched all you videos lol like them all. But really like the home brew and wine videos watching them has inspired me to try both as soon as I can. was going to do the drought or real ale was my two pics. so save a old bottle of drought and a new real ale when its ready. and do a video taste test. thank you.

  • Another great series Craig! Another thing to add as far as a way to chill your wort would be to put your brewing pot into an ice bath in the sink before you pour it into your bucket! Just another way of doing it for those interested. Thanks again!

    Rob

  • In the summer when the tap water isn't as cold, I have to do that. Just a sink full of cold water works fine in about 10 minutes.

  • Great video! I seen your beer making vids about a year ago and have been home brewing ever since!

Canadian beer is ridiculously expensive so im glad i started :)

    Keep it up!

  • Thanks man, your videos are helping a lot of people get started in the art.

  • thanks Craig, you rock. Hope to see more of Craigs kitchen soon, hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge.

  • Ok, Ok, I've been slack. More videos coming up, including Craig's Kitchen. Thanks for the support.

  • Craig, definitely 3 more great videos! Just finished my second brew last week or so, did a American wheat turned out great. Keep 'em coming! :-)

  • Well done Craig! Now how about a red wine with oak?

  • I usually make white ans swap some for my sister's home made red. I might make a batch of red soon tho.

  • Thanks Craig!
