You're right, Andrea! The year 2011 was a great year for great games. I have played L.A. Noire, Modern Warfare 3, and Mortal Kombat (all awesome games) but I have yet to play Batman, Skyrim, Battlefield, etc.
Batman? Seriously? Maaaaan! I LOVED Arkham asylum but was disappointed with arkham city. I mean, the main "quest" or whatever is like 3 hours long! and then you gotta find 300+ trophies and shit. They were really fucking lazy :P IMO
@RGonzX10 The story is 15 hours long. It's longer than Arkham Asylum. They fitted in side quests, a huge open world, challenge maps and more heroes and villains. Arkham City was amazing. Rocksteady weren't lazy at all. It's the best reviewed game of 2011 when it comes to the PS3 and PC beating Skyrim, Portal 2, Uncharted and Gears etc.

Her gymnastics and whip make for great use and she can gather more points in the fighting challenge maps than any other character thanks to her agility and velocity. Catwoman may be weaker than any of the other characters and does not have the amount of gadgets as other characters have but she proves she doesn't need them. I can take out more guys quicker when playing as Catwoman than I can with Batman!
@RGonzX10 If you can use Catwoman correctly, you'll clear a room twice as fast as Robin can. She's faster than any other character. Her velocity and agility proves that.
Skyrim win big time portal 2 should win something though. Uncharted 3 was uncharted 2 but seems no one noticed that they out call of dutied call of duty in lack of inovation. Still I enjoyed the game alot but has to be said!

GDC awards are important in that members of the game developer community vote on it themselves. While there is an audience online vote available for the public, this is about how industry people feel about each other's technical achievements, not about what the public feels is the best of anything in any of their specific catagories. That said, most developers beyond Bethesda's are still in a quandary as to how to provide the volume content put that was in ES5 Skyrim on a single HD disc...

@Tehbestshot When comparing Skyrim to all top major contenders - the glitches and bugs in Skyrim are far more problematic and consistent than any other of those games. In fact, Skyrim glitches have became famous because of how consistent they are. Bethesda have tried releasing multiple patches for the game and even then players have had problems with the game. I am calm. It's you who's getting upset because I challenged your opinion. That's your opinion because you're a fan boy.
@aidenmccloskey Please name some of these major game breaking glitches. The only ones I know you have to deliberately do and if you don't want to do them you don't need to and they aren't major glitches they're just for getting gold or leveling.
@Tehbestshot Alright, I'll name one. Just after the start of the game, sometimes traveling in any direction for about 10 minutes causes the scenery to either disappear or completely cut off. E.g. traveling to Falkreath, Whiterun and Riften for some amount of time might result in the landscape simply disappearing; trees may start floating atop nothing or the river near Riverwood might suddenly disappear or have holes in it causing the gamer to restart the game. There are many many more.

L.A. Noire's motion capture was revolutionary. It had never been done before in gaming and it worked beautifully. It definitely deserves to pick up the award over BF3, Uncharted, Crysis and Skyrim.

I'm not denying it's place as a contender, but I certainly deny it from being crowned as the best game of 2011 considering the amount of problems it has. There have been thousands of complaints sent in from Skyrim players to Bethesda because of the bugs and glitches that have occurred in their game. So, I'm right. Not all games suffer from the major glitches and bugs. You're one of the lucky ones.
Skyrim is awesome but I'm gonna go with Bastion. Played it and man never played a game like Bastion. It was a breath of fresh air, and the story, it made me shed a tear. You'll know what I'm talking if you played the game.

@aidenmccloskey No I'm tired of people bitching and yet they have no proof. And there are glitch in Arkham City that make it to where you have to restart the level. I'm sure there are some in the others also. If you want bitch about glitches in a game go make one yourself, or show me one that has not a single glitch in it be it minor or major. Once you've done that then you can bitch about Skyrim's glitches.

L.A. Noire's motion capture was revolutionary. It had never been done before in gaming and it worked beautifully. It definitely deserves to pick up the award over BF3, Uncharted, Crysis and Skyrim.

Skyrim is overrated. It's full of bugs and glitches. A game with that many problems does not deserve to be crowned the Game of the Year. Game of the Year represents the best of the best and if the best is full of glitches and bugs then what does that say about video games this year? Exactly. Give another game the chance to win GOTY instead of pleasing fan boys.

ES as a series is from 17 years and Uncharted series is from 4 years. Which has a bigger fan base? Also Skyrim is on 3 platforms and Uncharted 3 is only on PS3. @aidenmccloskey i do agree with you but of all the nominee's mentioned i played skyrim for a very short while,i still play BF3 and i've played portal 2 and for the best engine i'd give it to BF3,hands down,for GOTY none of the three since both skyrim and bf3 were buggy and had glitches and well portal 2 is a great game but it can't really compete with the two others.

@aidenmccloskey game of the year is deserved for the game that gamers can get a lot of enjoyment from, skyrim may have glitches and bugs, but some of these make it even more enjoyable, i've replayed the game god knows how many times because i enjoy playing it more than most games, doesn't matter if a game has glitches or bugs, so long as you get a lot of fun from it, it should be nominated, so stop taking gaming too seriously and just enjoy playing them, besides all games have glitches and bugs

@TheAshy14 I completely disagree. The bugs and glitches have ruined the experience for many Skyrim players. If you have to restart a mission or even the game because of a bug/ glitch - then that's proof of a badly designed game. A badly designed game does not deserve the GOTY crown. 'Stop taking gaming too seriously' - I'm not being overly serious. I'm pointing out some major flaws. Am I supposed to ignore them? You just don't like the fact that I'm right and there's nothing you can say about it

@aidenmccloskey i'm pretty sure if having to restart the game from a bug happened to "many Skyrim players" then it wouldn't be nominated because most people would be pissed with it, so you've exaggerated there, and the giant kill glitch, mammoth flying glitches etc are all funny, i've got like 5 playthroughs and they've had small problems, some anoying yes but most entertaining, consider the challenge of building a game like skyrim, and a few bugs and glitches are understandable, so you're wrong

I'm not denying it's place as a contender, but I certainly deny it from being crowned as the best game of 2011 considering the amount of problems it has. There have been thousands of complaints sent in from Skyrim players to Bethesda because of the bugs and glitches that have occurred in their game. So, I'm right. Not all games suffer from the major glitches and bugs. You're one of the lucky ones.
