  • I just finished the book Big Boy Rules by Steve Fainaru where I learned about this young man. He seemed like quite a person with a personality that made a lot of lives happier around him. Thanks for your service brother and I'm sorry to the family and friends that lost him.

  • for his funeral, his family, his former buddies from the army, and college friends came. no one from crescent security was present.

  • should have rocked it harder, rip bro

  • Just thinking about all the guys. Cousin of Paul Reuben

  • I just read the story about Jon Côté. Being from Québec where there are many Côté's, I was particularly interested about him. People should just stop going killing themselves for corporate wars like the one in Iraq.

  • American are the most stupid they invade a sovign nation and think their will not be a cost involved. Just wait until 14 trillion debt hits is digested by the world and all these war profiteers and greedy people will be steet beggers. They see what its like to live in a third world like Iraq has become since their invasion. Maybe Afica or Iran keep driving war machine the dallor is falling and the Muslims will win. Haiti will look like a vacation see most American cant get along.

  • Well I guess compared to million of Iraqs murderd for oil by Bush for war pofiteers is the price to paid to bad so sad.

  • Sorry for your loss bro.

  • R.I.P. Much respect for our bravest of men. thanks for the video i will never forget his name

  • sorry to hear about your friend. Crescent Security was one of those bad companies that just had bad practices.

  • @vgyu8gf68 when you grow up or stand up for something your opinion might matter then

  • Great Song. I wonder what James Blunt's view of the war is.

  • RIP!

  • Jonathon Cote R.I.P. brother!

In Italy who does this work ... so called mercenary Italian ignorant people throw mud on the Italian security professionals! Professionals working in various parts of the world like Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa etc etc ...

Sometimes I feel angry and ashamed for the Italian State!

STRENGTH AND HONOR TO ITALIAN CONTRACTOR and all Security Professionals in the world!

  • Have some respect!! He knew the dangers invloved and he accepted...he´s braver than any of you fuckers. I don´t know him but I respect his sacrifice even if his motivation was money. You have to have balls to go out there.

  • Rest well. See you in Valhalla

  • R.I.P cousen we all miss u

  • I read the book about this man, impressive.

  • Respect-one mercenary man

  • @gman586 i know exactly what a merc is...the problem is that you and assholes like you dont. You think because they call it security its something noble. fuck you. he was a fucking criminal and unlike me he died before he learned that killing is wrong....not that i give a shit about one more ass hole carrying a gun.

  • @johnhar271 dont talk about my fam like that i will fuck u up

  • I am reading a book " Mercenaries fighting in iraq" and i was looking up triple canopy videos when i stumbled on to john cotes name on a follow up video. The name was familiar because i have read about him in this book. Had no idea that he had been killed. Guess i know what to expect near the end

god bless him and the others

    RIP

  • I read about him and the 4 other captives in a book titled "Big Boy Rules" by Steve Fainaru. You should read it.

  • @Transporter1022 yea man im reading it now...but stumbled on this video and i guess i no whats coming now

  • this is sad rest

  • thats my cuzin

  • @johnhar271

Your ignorant. What makes you think Cote ever killed anyone? His job was to provide escorts to convoys. Of course he got paid, it was very dangerous. Some days they were shot at every day of the week. They were not over there fighting offensively. Get your facts straight! When he and his 4 fellow contractors died there were an estimated 50,000 private security contractors in Iraq. Without them there would be no rebuilding.

  • he didnt die for his country he died to profit from a war....he was just a mercenary. let's not call that heroic. he went back for the adrinaline, he killed for 7 grand a month. this is war, sometimes you kill, sometimes you get killed

  • Wow do you know what a mercenary is or what their many jobs are. I'll help you 1 escort vips/civilan contractors.2 Convoy security defend motor cade from hijackers/kidnapers/militant fighters. Now that you know some of what they do i would like to remind you that being able to make 7k a month is not to bad seeing the country is broke. This kid left the marines after his 4 years and did what he had to try and get ahead people like you make everyone involved sound like blood thirsty killers

  • I know exactly what a mercenary is, I served twice and when I got out I did some freelance stuff too, thats why I dont white wash it or pretend its anything else but what it is.....he chose adrinaline and money to play his part in a war and died, Thats what happens if you play war, someone dies. you may not like the name (mercenary) but its truthful and illegal under US law by the way. It doesnt matter if you do escort work its still mercenary

  • Um....John I ah, hate to bring this up to you, but mercenarism is provided for under the constitution. It's called mark and reprisal. It states, that paid non military units could be sent to foreign soils & water to fight non-military units that pose danger to the U.S. It was originally put into play during the days of Pirates on the eastern seaboard. So I would assume that would make it legal. But then again the second amendment does not seem to hold water in some states, so who knows.

  • And i think you are a little bitch that never had the guts to go fight for your country and the only enjoyment you get from life is to talk shit to people that have and died doing so he might not of been in the military when he was murdered But he had the guts to go back to iraq and do what he belived in unlike most of you. an to you johnhar im an ex marine and if you want to meet up somewhere i would love to smash your face in i also im a mercenary and make more money than you ever will CARMA

  • call me when you get to Austin cunt I'd be happy to meet up...and I make 120K, legally

  • still a dumb ass you never made it out of boot camp ur full of shit go to hell u retard

  • right I'M dumb...because I dont feel sorry for some fucking war profiteer who died in a war (karma)......any way you spin it he was a mercenary and I will never consider a mercenary a hero or someone to feel sorry for, you can get pissy like a bitch all you want

  • First off privite military is not illegal. the us gov is the largest employer of mercenaries in the region. securing gov't assets. You need to look into what privite military is because your way off. i dont know when you did merc work but its not like anything your trying to say it is. by the way i'll take 714k per year over ur 120k any day

  • the goverment currently does many things that are illegal including the use of mercenaries which are illegal under US and international law, the geneva convention also gives no protection for such criminals. I also doubt you make 3/4 of a million a year and even if you did so the fuck what....I miss out on nothing, I have plenty of money for anything I need. You'll learn one day that money is not worth some things

  • geneva convention only for the military would you like to know what that is to seems ur very confused when it comes to the whole military thing. If its so ilegal why doses the us pay more than any other gov if its never mind trying to explain it to .u ur a dumb ass that lives in his moms basement

  • @johnhar271 You need to shut the fuck up. Who are you? A nobody, a fucking armchair commando sitting at home behind your computer passing judgement on hero who fought for the rights you have to sit there and bad mouth him. You are lucky I don't know you, I would hurt you bad and thats a promise. This man had more courage and valour than you could ever dream about having and people will remember him. You are worthless scum, worth less than piss.

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI I got 4 commando badges I earned so you know what you would do if you were face to face with me, absolutly nothing pussy, and that mercenary never fought for a single right of any american. not one. american was never threatened by iraq for starters and second hes just another dead vulture. fuck him and fuck you too

  • @johnhar271 Commando badge? Haha, yeah you and every other armchair commando on youtube.. sounds like you've been playing to much call of duty. You are a blind fool, this guy served two tours of duty and went to Iraq to guard a pipe line construction site. He wasn't killing people, he was protecting them.. you don't think he should be paid for that? Read the book "big boy rules" and educate yourself about this guy before your run your cocksucker about shit you know nothing of.

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI the only thing he was protecting was the oil companie profits which is appropriate because he was a war profiteer...and i dont play video games, but like i said to the last cunt any time your feeling sprite ill meet up with you and you can show me what your made of instead of running your mouth with the ananimity of a computer screen. fag

  • @johnhar271 Who cares? Do you even know what a merc is? It's a individual hired by a foreign nation to fight for them, they fight for the highest bidder. Contractors are hired by companies (usually in their country) operating under the state department fulfilling contracts. Big difference. You are obviously just mad because you probably make minimum wage and these guys are making bank.

  • @johnhar271 And if you WERE a soldier at the very least you should have respect for this guy, you should know what it's like fighting in a foreign country and you should honor those who did the SAME THING as you.. he served two tours of duty for this shitty government making less money than a average office worker. He deserved the money he made in the PMC business. You are a disgrace and if I ever met you, i'd take those "commando badges" and piss on them.. cunt.

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI i respected him when he was a soldier...but when he became a war profiteer any respect he earned was thrown in the shitter. fuck him

  • Comment removed

  • @Youc4ntsh00t yak yak yak. dont cry about the spelling you understood me when i said im more than willing to meet in person so you can show me the errors of my ways. come on down to austin mouth and ill give you a contact number

  • @johnhar271 Are you to dense to understand what I am saying to you? Do you really think I am going to loose my job, spend hundreds of dollars and risk going to jail/prison over a worthless, disrespectful loser on youtube who can't grasp reality? Grow up you twat. It's a shame you didn't trip an IED and get fucking smeared, the world doesn't need worthless pieces of shit like you taking up the oxygen.

  • @johnhar271 And no one is "crying" about your spelling.. like I said in my last comment... any validity and credibility you have goes out the window when you can't even spell "company". I am sorry the public education system failed you so badly.

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI so what your really saying is you dont mind running your mouth as long as you can hide behind something like this screen but when it comes to backing it up your too chicken shit. you said you wanted to hurt me all im saying is anytime your feeling froggy come try it otherwise maybe you should shut the fuck up

  • To all of the posters commenting on this video,

Please be RESPECTFUL to this video and the families with your comments!

These guys did a job for THEIR country and regardless of the work they did it was for The USA..... Please Respect That Much!

It was a job, They recieved pay, They died protecting there part of the operation! Weather we agree its right or wrong, They did a GREAT JOB!

  • im glad that someone feels the same way

  • What a great tribute to Mr. Cote!!!!!

He seemed to have a great time in his life and I hope he will be remembered forthe good works he has done.

  • reall bull

  • first off its not called a fan dumb ass

  • an oppinion that many would agree with

  • a pretty f***ing good man and should be respected for it

  • in a very rude way!!! i think you just need to chill with this whol hate thing.

he is gone now and you shouldnt be talking about him, end of story!

  • by the was jonathon is my cousin and i find that so disrespectful VGYU8GF68 if it was someone close to your heart im sure it would kill you inside if someone was to talk like that about them!!!!

  • youre an asshole!!!!!!

he risks his life for our freedom and thats all you have to say about him...

  • your an idiot vgyu8gf68 have some respect.

    Cote was helping.

  • still a human being with friends and families at home you fu..ing idiot.

  • @vgyu8gf68 I think too he should not have been there for that. However, from the book it looks like he was quite a nice guy and his mistake had nothing to do with his real personality/life expectation etc. That is quite sad and I feel for his friends and his brother etc. Honestly, I saw that on TV in 2006, I remember, I saw it in the news. And at that time I thought "is their problem, they went there for money, is nobody else's business except theirs". Fucking 7000$/month. Absolutely ridiculous.

  • The SAS were involved in Operation Piccadilly, a mission to rescue the five contractors...Two SAS Operators were killed during the raid...Sometimes the truth is blinded by good intentions and people on soap boxes who know the answer. R.I.P Mates......

  • Greatest respect is due the elite men of the SAS, who attempted what the US govt either could not or would not. Without a doubt they undertook many other high-risk missions around Basra to the aid of coalition ops, which are unknown to most Americans.

Chalabi had a chance to negotiate a release via contacts with the kidnappers, yet he refused. The lives of all these men, including our steadfast and courageous allies the SAS commandos, could likely have been spared.

  • What is even more disturbing about this hostage tragedy is how totally unnecessary the outcome was:

    1. Ahmad Chalabi was given the 1st Basra hostage video, yet refused to mediate to win release of the 5 men. Yes- the same lying corrupt criminal Chalabi who BS'd CIA and Bush admin into invading Iraq.

    2. US govt esp State Dept let this happen through inaction. Why NO military rescue response??

    3. Crescent CEO/mgrs criminal negligence-hiring corrupt Iraqis, sending only 7 men escorting 40 trucks

  • My 1st post below was re. voister81 's comment on Fainaru's book "Big Boy Rules". The book is the real story behind the Crescent hostage tragedy: Steve Fainaru (reporting for The Washington Post) rode along on convoy escort missions with Cote and Munns only 2 weeks before their capture.

IMHO Fainaru pays tribute to Jon Cote by bringing him to life for people who never met the man. Clearly he was a very capable, admirable young man who served his country with honor and valor.

  • He deserve some respect

  • why?

  • His bad... he should've stayed home. Sorry for your loss people, but he's one in a million. No reason to post it on youtube

  • Yep Your right Jon was One in a Million...and Staying Home and Not Caring Wasnt His Thing Dude.

  • and youre someone whos been to iraq/afghanistan and got shot at, and knows exactly what its like to watch the ones next to you die? or to stay up for days on end thinking the next minute you could get a face full of shrapnel and a mouth full of blood from a fuckin roadside bomb. You havent been through shit.

  • @dantheman1507 shut up you fucking cunt, show some respect

  • @fumofunghi

    for what dick-face?

  • @dantheman1507 for Jonathon Cote.

  • @dantheman1507 you are 1 dissrespectfull piece of shit, just because jon wasnt a little pussy like you that would turn and run from sumthing does not mean what happened was his fault. This man served his country faithfully with more dignaty then you have ever shown anything in your entire life. of that i am sure. With all the crap on youtube you pick this to say it doesnt belong.Either you are just another moron troller looking for a fight or just a disrespectfull piece of shit!

  • @arkangel8419

fuck you retard, he was just another mercenary that went there for his own profit.

He risked, he lost. Stop being such a bitch and live with it.

Tipical american rednecks... praise your troops that die pillaging foreign countries and call the other guys terrorists or evil fuckers.

    Fuck you and you're mercenaries.

  • @arkangel8419 I think the real cowards are the warmongers who send kids like Côté in Iraq instead of going themselves. Look at Dick Cheney, he did everything to avoid Viet nam while supporting the war at 100%.

  • @dantheman1507 WE SHOOD PUT DER PEOPLE IN THA FRONT LINES AND FIND ALL THA ROAD SIDE STUFF ........................... USE DER PEOPLE AS SHEILDS ............................... BAN ALL INTERACTION WITH CUONTRIES WHO LET THIS TYPE OF STUFF HAPPEN

  • what's weird in the book is precisely the last paragraph, where the author describes how a group of people silently paid their respects at the funeral and as the first thing they've said as they were leaving was "let's have some beers. and everybody started to laugh". :-?

  • what else is there to do after a funeral where one of your best freinds was tortured and murdered. I bet cote would want them to be hanging out havin some beers havin a good time and to remeber cote as the cool guy that he was and not just as another "dead friend" to these army guys.

  • You have to remember these guys were 82nd Airborne vets who had met or served with Cote in Iraq. The meaning is implied that they are going off to party together like Jon Cote would have wanted. Another way to pay their fallen friend tribute- if Cote could no longer join them, he could be there in spirit.

  • Only two of the mates from Crescent were in the 82nd ABN....

  • The original comment was in reference to Cote's mates at his funeral, not to the Crescent men, although Cote was originally recruited by one of his buddies from the 82nd.

  • 1:44 the guy isolated in the first row is the irakian guy that was part of the kidnap according to the book "big boys rules"

  • Rest in Peace.

  • ,,Big Boys Rule" by Steve Fainaru Cotes stor is in tis book...(best seller)...:(R.I.P:(

  • Hey Wills7MGTE, your daddy Smurf

    ?

  • I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Bro. I worked CS for a time. I'm very sorry. He earned better.

  • My dad's doing poppy eradication for Dyncorp in Afghanistan right now, before that he worked for DEH and Crescent for a bit too. Tough job to do and a crappy family life but it makes the time home matter more.

R.I.P. Jonathon and for his family left behind I wish you the best and you have my sincere condolences, thanks for sharing this video.

  • Always Eternal; Never Forgotten; Always in our dreams. Rest in Peace JC.
