  • sure he can play an awesome bass solo but can he play smoke on water?

  • Great lyrics! I think I understood "WHY?" Well... Goes well with the ambience!

  • Ear drill ! ! !

  • kinda stupid, it's only insanely fast and not very creative

  • thats not metal.

    thats not even music.

    with all respect, thats crap...

  • @egmadokica fuck you bitch!!

  • @juanperez43 is that top of your intellectual development in lack of arguments???

    old fashion FU insult????

btw, tastes are different, and no one should argue about them, i think this is crap, and dont consider as music coz pure tehnique in music is like "just strenght" in fight.

  • @egmadokica I could drop a pen on the floor and call it music, because it would be music.

  • i dont support satan worship

  • So many unnecessary blast beats.

  • That bassist should probably get his act together and join a band that would actually show some gain from his ungodly abilities.

  • lol @ you tube comments.....hahahahaha

    SO WHAT

  • poeple who say shredding has no soul are just jealous they cant go that fast

  • personally, I don't think that even sounds good. Playing fast opens up new doors for interesting sounds, but just hammering away simple note patterns as fast as you can, seems more of a practice than something to be used in a song. Maybe just me

  • WARNING, SPEAKER RAPE POTENTIAL..

  • Sounds more like a sped up southpark theme tune than keeping with the theme of the song.

  • Comment removed

  • fuck you

    i use headphone!

  • it sounds like shit

  • RIP headphone users

  • for a little moment, I thought I was in hell

  • completely out of scale, but yes, still takes skill to get this clean

  • I would like to see him play that live :D

  • I want this played at my funeral.

  • I didn't know cookie monster could sing so well

  • this is fkin random

  • @weezerfootie is not random, you can ear a logical sound going on, i would say is more an exercice than music

  • @macacodorado funnny yo hahaha i meant u noe.. metal then like.. weird bass shredding.. then metal.. bit wtf-ish no haha

  • so sad.

  • @44heavy44 THANK YOU all this fuckn scene kid music is fuckn shit dont get me wrong the bassist Is fast but he should be playing something else cuz the sound of nuclear bomb we would make me happy before this fucken shit would

  • @rushgilbert2112 Did you just fucking call brain drill scene music? Get the fuck out. Please, kill yourself now.

  • @SouthwestSpeedy Who taught you to listen to that shit?

It sounds like a crap came to life and had nothing to sing or play so it just yelled incomprehensible shit-words.

Is that why you like it, because it's "'50's Elvis rebellious"? I can understand that, I guess. I can understand that.

  • absolute shiiiiit and the song is even worse ,....

  • that was some awesome bass shredding, time to go and practice a little more :P

  • I find it funny how most people are talking shit on this bass riff, and the music itself. If you don't like it, how about you just go somewhere else and leave us who enjoy it be?

  • Too many scale runs.

  • From the outlook of a fellow musician and bass player, the man is talented in that he can play fast, which is a skill honed by practice. In that sense, he has skill. From the outlook of a lover of music, this is fucking awful.

  • ok 6 string bass really? the most u need is 5 and thats pushing it

  • Ah decent bass player would not play this shit

  • Speed is never a test of skill. Music is an art form. It's not about what you do, it's about what sound you make and the impression of the listeners.

  • ahahahhaahah che merda!!!!!

  • the bass solo was nice but that type of music is appalling

  • appergio tapping is not an eppic skill

  • This is freaking amazing, but I wouldn't say this is better than John Myung although it's faster than any of his solos

  • @harry87623 Dude, John Myung doesn't play ridiculous music like this. Compared to Myung's works, this music is a flush-down.

  • @sploogefest14 LOL are you kidding me? Do you seriously think this song's guitar is hard?

  • @zienaq Well, anyone can go "Durr maan, that is totally easy, if you think its hard, you're just a total looooseeerr!!!". But from that and to posting something that is not just the ramblings of a mad troll, is far. So you can redeem yourself by showing that this is not "hard" or drop the act, because youtube is not a junkyard for you to offload your shit at.

  • @zienaq Too hard and impossible for you to play. Why is it every 12 year old (like yourself) who can hardly play Smoke on the Water thinks he's a good guitarist.

  • For the first 10 seconds, my speakers were really fucked up. Then a heard a bass line looped and then my speakers got fucked up again at 29 seconds in

  • holy fuck nuts!

  • This is tapping

  • I've checked out some of his other songs. The guy actually does what is right harmonically and rhythmically instead of copying guitar riffs, which is what a lot of metal bass players do. I have tremendous respect for him, especially playing at that speed.

  • He look like Jean Dujardin!

  • HORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE,

    SPEED IS NOT ALL MAN..........

  • Holy shit that's fast, I can't even hear the pitch of half the notes o.o

  • what was that song

  • thats not shredding fags

  • Dennis Bradley? Why?

  • @SKB9 I don't even know man.

  • Holy shit, was that a human playing?

  • So speed = skill?

    lol, retards gonna be retards.

  • @zienaq Again, seeing as skill is an ability that has been acquired by training, speed typically does fall under the category of a skill since nearly every musician ever says "Speed comes with practice."

    lol, retards gonna be retards.

  • @zienaq Think you misunderstood me. I'm saying speed is a skill, cause it is. I think you're referring to skill as someone who is an all around great musician, whereas I'm saying i'm saying a great musician possesses many skills, one of which can be speed.

  • @Bassist4TBTH I think the best way to put it is that this guy is good at what he does. What ever his craft is, he makes it work for his satisfaction. It's like most musicians try to learn and compare all styles of music, when all they really need to do is just play from the heart! Develop the technique you need to master your own craft of music.

  • @zienaq There is more music than just blues and jazz you know.

  • @Bassist4TBTH , i dont know if that works with music but uhh good use of the Transitive Property

  • @zienaq Holy fuck you people are retarded, does everything have to be a grand artistic statement to you? Can't some bands just have fun and push the limit? Some bands just want to play as fast as possible and the intensity and energy of the music is enjoyable to the fans. Yes for the most part skill substitutes emotion and if we want emotion then we will listen to Dark Side of the Moon or something. And the 13 year old's from 4chan called they want there meme back.

  • @NO11YOU take the time to listen to the insane growling in this shitty "music" that you are defending now. What the fuck is this? I'll have a good time not being an insane black dressed maniac with emo hair. Call me up and tell me how does it feel to be normal when you actually are... And don't come up with the "I can be whatever I want" shit statement, cause if you can, don't complain if people treat you like a fucking retard.

  • @zienaq I have taken the time to listen to this kind of music for years now and i enjoy it as do other Brain drill fans. Now i don't know if your blind or something but there's pictures of the band member of brain drill right in the video and they don't look like "Black dressed maniac with emo hair" to me. Seriously.. "Emo" are you still in middle school or something lol. Come back when your balls have dropped, you kids have the attention span of an autistic goldfish.

  • @zienaq faggot

  • @zienaq Yeah, and YOU are the retard :D

  • @zienaq Deffinetly speed that comes alone isnt skill. Music is first and foremost of course but if music comes along with good speed and being clean while your playing then its deffinetly a skill.

  • @zienaq He is quite skilled. If you like what he does or not it's a completely different thing. I do not like it, but I think he is a very skilled bassist (for tapping, at least)

  • @zienaq you're just another example of a generic *you always have to play with "soul"* person...

  • @DrFizz28 and this is just another generic, "I'm in a metal band with a 6 string bass and I tap scales so I must be awesome" thing.

  • @JollyJollyJoseph I sense a feeling of borrowing from my previous comment

  • @JollyJollyJoseph Actually its a seven string conklin. This dumbass posted a portion of a song, then looped the 2 second bass part over and over, in addition to putting a picture of a random bassist in. The guys name is Jeff Hughell. Look up his album I Came To Hate (no guitars on it whatsoever) its varied and shows how much of a beast he is. Also dont be a douche and judge him on what this jackass put up. Cant really tell how good a musician is from maybe 5 seconds of playing can you?

  • @falconer6439 It was a joke. I know a lot of fellow bass players that act like that. I am aware of this guy and the song.

  • You guys are really going to watch a video called "insane bass shredding" and complain that he's playing fast?

  • duuuuuuuude thats like classical guitar skills daaaaeeeem

  • this is soo shitty. nuff said!

  • @MrPecesco no,im not really into guys, but if you want them ,go ahead ^^

  • this is more a "drill right next to your ear sound". ´cept the bass part maybe.

  • @Metallica4LifeDude agreed. go /\/\etallicA.

  • timing? what timing?

  • So when does the music start?

  • Those were the fastest and most cleanly-executed bass sweep arpeggios I've ever heard. I thought Billy Sheehan was the pinnacle of top-notch bass playing, but this definitely takes things a step further!

  • is this grindcore or wtf?

I think it isn't music, but the bass shredd is amazing (Y)

  • What the hell was that!?

  • well it's bass tapping for a start...

  • Shittiest song i ever heard,,

HAIL METALLICA.. HAIL AC/DC.. HAIL IRON MAIDEN.. HAIL SLAYER!

  • @Metayounis metallica is bad, acdc is boring, maiden and slayer rule ,dont get me wrong ,its just my opinion

  • if it wasn't for the bass solo this would be a cold bucket of douche

  • Nice skill but shit song

  • Bass is amazing.

  • This song must be over in like 1 minute?

  • i cant believe i used to like this sorta stuff back wen i was a kid...complete and utter nonsense...but then after a while...atleast in slipknot's case...i began to respect them a whole lot more after watching stone sour...im hoping whoever made this has that kind of streak within them

  • it reminds me of mario :L

  • @lordsab Go listen to Arch Enemy some more, douche.

  • @Bassist4TBTH in all fairness, it is pretty terrible.

  • @Bassist4TBTH why cant we all be friends?

  • @lordsab I want to see you play that riff. I know how it's played and if you think its so fucking easy then post a video of you doing it. If you can't then shut up. Your opinion on the music i can respect everyone has different tastes, But don't say that Jeff sucks because he will always be 1000x better than you will ever be.

  • @lordsab so you have taste in metal maybe you like sonata arctica or iron maide...-GAY-

  • @lordsab lmao, you sir, are hilarious

  • >Jeff Hughell

    >Anyone can play what he plays

    Don't think so, Tim.

  • @lordsab Hey do us all a favor and shut the fuck up or upload a vid of you playing it if "Anyone can play what he played."

  • @lordsab Really anyone? Lets see you do it then, put up a video playing like Jeff Hughell you faggot. You can't do it, so shut your pussy ass mouth.

  • @lordsab Since "anyone can do that", why don't you put up a cover of it?

  • @lordsab can you play that?

  • @lordsab Anyone with lots of practice, yes.

  • @lordsab, go suck justin beiber's dick you stupid bitch...when you can show up this band in bass then you can talk

  • @lordsab Well it's been a month. Have you recorded yourself playing this bass line that apparently "anyone" can play? If you have I don't see it anywhere. Just checking to see if you have the backbone to do it.

  • @lordsab Haha, please upload a video of you playing that yourself. I would fucking LOVE to see that.

  • @lordsab i bet you can't play stuff like that or even an instrument.. so go and fuck yourself

  • @lordsab I don't like this genre...but you shurely neither play an instrument (that f'n shows!) nor have musical ear...though this bass line isn't impossible, every musician can see it's rather difficult to play. Go learn play bass, and til then you can start writing bullshit.

  • дерьмо

  • Brain Drill is pretty insane.

  • jeff hughell is sick. tell stu hamm he needs to practice his metalz! this video cracked me up though

  • Thats something Yngwie Malmsteen could do in his sleep..

  • @novemberrain1994 on bass? doubt it

  • @novemberrain1994 cool i will take the bet if you could Acually get him too care about something else than his ego he could prolly do it :)

  • Fucking Sic!!!

  • Pffff, what are they trying to do? Be a Dethklok cover band? :D

  • :D I agree

  • APOCALYPTIC FISTING

  • I think its pretty funny that someone made this video and copied the bass solo a bunch of times, it doesnt have my picture, it has more views than most of my videos and every one is talking shit and trying to judge my bass playing based on a couple of seconds of a song from a band I am not even in anymore. I think brain drill is an awsome band, its not for everyone but the point is to melt faces not to groove or play some nice melodies.

    Jeff Hughell

  • @666hughell ILOVE YOU JEFF!!!!!!!!!!

  • @666hughell, Jealousy of mass idiotics isn't meant to be considered.

  • @666hughell dude you are amazing people just dont realize tallent

  • @666hughell you fucking tell em Jeff, fuck these cunts and the stupid shit they say!! RECIPROCAL RULE THOUGH!!!

  • @666hughell

People are just jealous of your playing, you're fucking sick man. Anyone talking shit about it is just trying to put up a front of excuses to make themselves feel better.

  • @666hughell Amen to that ! To be honest, I started to like tech death metal after seein those few seconds and of course, to search for your videos.

    Good luck !

  • @666hughell I am not trying to suck up, but I thought it was cool. I can wish to be half as good as you.

  • @666hughell ur awesome 0:

  • WTF 6 String BASS!

  • that song moved me

  • Braindrill for the fucking WIN!

  • bass is false! turn to (custom) guitar and tune it low enough, you can eliminate the lazy bass player you dont need because ultimately you can chug out all the lowness and highness you want given that its the right scale like 34 inch or 35inch fanned so the higher strings are about 30 or 31 inch. bass guitar is only good for the first 2 strings, past that is pointless, get out a guitar already.

  • @jamesXmetal Bass is false? Have you listened to Metallica's And Justice for All album? That album is devoid of bass, and if you look on youtube for the song with the original bass track brought up in the mix you'll notice it sounds so much better. Without bass you lose all the depth in the music.

  • is playing the national anthem on my bass with my dick a skill?

  • Tis a shame talent gets involved in this cookie monster drop d death metal horseshit!

  • @PrInCe5627 its called death metal and its damn fuckin awsome

  • man, people just dont respect skill when they hear it.

  • @crimsoneternity It's not a matter of respect skill... this is just technique. No skill required. Anybody can practice tapped arpeggios to a metronome for half an hour every day and become a god at it... doesn't mean they're actually good, though.

  • Skill is acquired through practice you idiot. The definition is "an ability that has been acquired by training."

  • @Bassist4TBTH There's so many things wrong with this it makes my head spin.

So if you practice fingerstyle shred, tapping, sweeping, ETC. to a metronome all day and can do them all flawlessly at any given tempo, you're a good bassist?

No, all that means if you developed your technique... that doesn't help you understand theory, composition, improvising, feel or anything else, all of which is WAY more important than technique.

Technique is a means to an end. Nothing else.

  • Hahaha good job arguing against a point i never made. I never said being able to shred like that makes you good. All i said is that it's skillful. If someone is skillful they are not necessarily entirely good at bass. Glad we agree.

  • @Bassist4TBTH I originally wasn't going to respond since this is a pointless argument but some vacuous clown replying to my comment made me realize things must be set straight.

So, being able to shred is a skill, but that skill does not necessarily make you a good bassist, which in itself is a skill, pretty much? A sub-skill?

No, it's just an element of being one.. ability to shred is just a means to an end, with the end being the ultimately formed "skill".

  • Not sure why you responded, other than to affirm the fact that we agree... Let's summarize:

    - Shredding (well) is, by definition, a skill.

    - Possessing that skill does not necessarily make you a good bassist.

    - That skill, however, is one element of being a good bassist, along with knowledge of music theory, sense of rhythm, keeping time, control of dynamics, etc.

  • @Bassist4TBTH By DEFINITION, yes. But you seem to have the right idea.

  • @Bassist4TBTH What about feeling? melodic sense? I guess those things are more subjective, and are only considered part of being a good musician by some people.

Either way I wanted to contribute to this debate, seeing as it is a legitimate conversation and not just a stereotypical youtube argument.

  • I think you nailed it, those attributes seem to relate more to musicianship as opposed to just instrument playing.

  • @JaketheSnakeESP i play in a death metal band, and i put my feelings into every song i write for that band. this type of music may not reflect it, but most bands write their lyrics and instrumentals according to their feelings.

  • @ezmo776 That makes sense.

  • @JaketheSnakeESP

I think its not the skill that would make you a good bassist, its the way you would use it. which goes for basicly evry skill there is.

For example, if a bassist would find a way to put shredding in Bossa nova (whatever) and makes it actualy sound good and fitting in the song, than i would concider him a good bassist. but when one would use it and it would destroy the song or be completely unnesecary, than i would concider him a toughtless retard who only wants to show off.

  • @Bassist4TBTH therefore it makes a good bassist for all the reasons you just posted.

  • @Bassist4TBTH You don't have to be good at music theory to be a good musician.

For example, Jazz legend Victor Wooten, as he said himself, knows very little bass theory.

  • @Steve128967

Both skills and musicality can be trained. Anyone who has good balance of these two are likely to make good music. Classical music tend to ask for musicality. Itzhak Perlman is good at this. Technical Death Metal focuses on the skills. Jeff Hughell is good at this. Use 10% of your skills and 100% of your musicality and make good music. Use 100% of your skills and 10% of your musicality and still make good music.

That's why both Classical and Death Metal have fans right?

  • @ifluxion And actual death metal (of which tech death really is not) has both technique and musicality, except the technique is only a means to an end, not the focus.

  • @Steve128967 But I though Brain Drill is Technical Death Metal. What is your motive to your talks? Are you trying to criticize Tech Death Metal? This bassist (Jeff Hughell)? Are you trying to say that any music should not be the focus?

  • @ifluxion They are tech death, but tech death is way different from technical death metal, much like melodeath and melodic death metal and so on.

I mean, find me one old school death metal band that sounds like Brain Drill... you can't.

To me, technical death metal is Morbid Angel's Pain Divine, Immolation's Here in After, Gorguts' Erosion of Sanity, Suffocation, and so on.

  • @Steve128967 Um...do I sense subjectivity instead of objectivity? No one really cares what Technical Death Metal is to you.

  • @ifluxion way to miss the point... what I meant was those are all examples of early death metal bands that are technical/have technical songs, whereas with most modern bands that are just aping the style Necrophagist invented, the technique isn't a means to the end, it's the entire goal.

  • @Steve128967 Um...no. I did not miss the point. Your point is rather pointless because it's merely your own opinion on early and modern Technical Death Metal. Yea okay, you want to criticize modern death metal? Sure go ahead, but the fact is, it's pointless and it's Technical death Metal either way, whether you like it or not.

  • @Steve128967 You got owned.

  • @Steve128967

i agree with you but the fact that you're trying to pull that shit on this video worried me. the bassist here is using the harmonic minor & diminished scale. however you seem like the classic rock/blues type who sticks to the pentatonic so i wouldnt have expected you to know lol

but in all seriousness it annoys me when people who aren't used to metal shoot down shredding just because its too much for them to comprehend

its like when somebody calls a B.B. king solo "boring"
