A question to those who have watched the whole movie. Do you remember the song that the peasants sang? Is it some kind of an old Portuguese song that can be found somewhere on the Internet or was it just made up for the movie? Thanks.
All the movies directed by Manuel de Oliveira are a Masterpiece. The trailer is just a trailer. usually awesome trailers give bad movies. Portugal has no money for large productions but has brilliant and intellectual directors and writers.
remarking about how "strange" the young photographer is acting, just because hes a regular fucking guy who takes pictures of workers plowing the field (just so that we're reminded of how the director is 10000000 years old and how he's seen it all, plows AND machines, and isn't it all so quaint, etc). some shots were alright, but most were mediocre. 5 people walked out of IFC when i saw this. please skip this one.
ok, REGARDLESS OF CHOPIN AS THE SCORE, (which i thought was pretty lame actually... you can't instantly make a movie classy by taking an easily likable composer so that any douchebag that recognizes it will go see the movie just so he can say he like classical music) the film was garbage.
besides being slow, the dialogue was bad, it was poorly acted, and the plot was senseless. you don't feel any attachment to the characters because they're either all idiots (like the landlady who is constantly
@speccwolf Sad that you don't appreciate Chopin? I only looked up this trailer because the reviews were almost universally good. After viewing the trailer I was impressed with the trailer and the music. So who are you trying to insult? Chopin?-one of the greatest composers of all time. Professional movie reviewers-people who give their opinions of movies for a living. Or me?- a person that enjoys Chopin's piano music in movies.
Can you please explain why your 3 word opinion matters?
@speccwolf You shouldn't be here to type at all. But Chopin playing makes it a winner to me. Hence, "Any film that has Chopin piano music as part of its soundtrack is a winner in my book". And not, "Any film that has Chopin piano music as part of its soundtrack is a winner in speccwolf's book". So take it easy with your commentary Siskel or you might make yourself look like an idiot. Or I can do that for you.
@jculver2 So if the worst movie in the world has Chopin in it makes it a winner, hence sad. You've made yourself look like an idiot, tenfold at that, at least you tried.

Looks good on paper, sadly I cannot claim the same for the trailer and most likely not the film.

Any film that has Chopin piano music as part of its soundtrack is a winner in my book.

@jculver2 3 letters, and im not here to type an essay. Because Chopin is is playing on the soundtrack does not make the movie a winner.
