Yeah, not easy being vege in many part of the world. Sticking with it across your life is even harder. It does take committed principles and personal beliefs. That's more than can be said for plenty of people's life choices.
depending on where your ancesters grazed is how an individuals digestive system has evolved, somepeople can live on just vegitation others need the meat protein to sustain themselves. You can eat meat responsibly, free range, outdoor reared, organic, even roadkill.
...How is this about vegetarianism? This has nothing to do with being a vegetarian and everything to do with not just doing "what's cool" and doing what you know/think is right.
quoting him: "the coolest thing you can possibly do throughout your life is to make your own decisions."
Since we only live once(that we know of) we should focus on enjoying our lives, not stressing to follow every single thing and trend that society impose upon us.
Whether is food, clothing, or behavior we will be living a more peaceful and happy life if we follow what we really like, no what ppl tells us to do.
Meat tastes damn good. Meat eating has been going around for millions of years apparently. Why are people questioning the nature of eating now? I don't give a hoot! Give me a steak with peas and french fries.
That is very true and you got a very good point there. But to be fair, if we are to be all natural and hunt for meat and stuff, we might as well knit our own clothes, milk our own cows, etc, etc.
I truly would like that though because that means I don't have to work to live, I just have to take care of my family using what the Earth provides me with. No economy, no society. Just people doing their thing.
people say that eating meat is our right. its been going on for centuries...it innate behavoir...etc. i agree. there's really nothing i can say about that.
however its NOT our right to treat the animals we eat the way we do. why don't you research how we treat pigs, and chickens, and cows. artificial insemination sounds fun doesnt it? being confined to a tiny cage where you cannot move sounds fun too, right?
and then theres the argument that animals aren't self aware...they don't care.
Those are great points right there and I have been revising my diet in search of a healthy balanced diet instead of a merely meat-dressing food routine. I've asked a flatmate and she is a vegetarian for the reason that mentioned: animal cruelty.
It seems like a activist's statement against animal cruelty though it's a rather quiet one if you compare it with environmentalism.
sorry i that was a bit of a rant. sorry. i'm a recent vegatarian because i really didn't understand the problem with eating meat until pretty recently. i completley understand people who eat meat i was just mad at that moment. it seems pretty hard to do at first....that's why it took me a while. but the last straw was that i felt so guilty eating it that it tasted horrible...all meat.
The whole "it's been going on for years" argument always strikes me as a little weak. Just because something's been going on for millions of years doesn't justify it in the context of today. We re-assess old values all the time. Things change, why shouldn't diet if that's what people want? We're not living millions of years ago anymore. Just a thought. And I suspect people are questioning now because they can: much easier to be a vegetarian nowadays, and much more socially acceptable.

Vale Thom. Esa es la actitud, felicito a todos los que hemos optado por este camino.
A los que no, quiero decirles que cada día se aprende algo nuevo, y que, por favor, no se vayan contra nosotros.

and to that i say, are you ignorant?
we treat animals worse than ever before. that's why the number of vegans/vegetarians is growing.
