I can't be sure myself, but I can think of an explanation. The best I can figure is that someone tried to say "mach ball," referring to the speed of the morph ball rolling, but instead typed "mock ball," using the wrong spelling of the word.
@Ranos17 Speed booster obsolete? Pffh, hardly. Combine the speed booster *with* a mockball and it's even faster. Try playing Super Metroid: Cliffhanger (not the easy one). Several areas -require- combining the two to get past. It's not that hard once you know how (and a controller helps)
@Tiniuc I meant until you actually get it. When it comes to places requiring it, the speed booster is obslete if you can use the mockball. And I'm not talking about hacks or anything of the sort, it's just my guess on the origin of the name.
@Urmean15 easy definition of MOCKball. First of all. mock can mean : to imitate (as a mannerism). Which in this case it is 'mock'ing the Speed that you had. By hitting the ground and the split second morphing into a ball since the law 'objects in motion stay in motion' you tend to keep all of your speed. This even works with the Super Mockball, which it Mocks the super speed of the Speed booster.
You mean on how to do the mach ball? Just rub through the door, jumping at the last second. Keep holding jump and tap down, letting go of right. Tap down again, let go of jump, and switch to right as fast as you can when you're right there at the ground and you should smoothly pull off the mach ball.
MetroidGamer didnt explain the machball well enough, which was a year ago so I dont know If you have figured it out yet.
All you have to do is run to a desired speed then jump, and without letting go of the jump button press down. Now just before hitting the ground press down again then right (or whatever direction you are traveling at) immediatly. If all done corectly then you should make a smooth mochball. You dont have to let go of jump in the entire process but you can if u want when u land
Wow, I somehow missed this comment. Anyway, I have a new video of that up now (if you want to call it new; t's been up for a while) if you want to check it out. Well, maybe you've seen it, maybe not. Your comment says it was posted 4 months ago as well as my video.

@Eddy34Mario yeah, you can. But, unless you were doing a speed run, who in their right minds would give up such an easy super missile tank?

I don't get why it's referred to as the "Mock ball".

I have a better explanation I believe. Doesn't it mock the speed booster, since it makes it obsolete? Mockball =P
Never been able to perform that trick personally, might have to do with the fact that I play with the keyboard or maybe I'm just not good enough =\

I like your explanation better. :)
I have 2 other videos that each demonstrate 1 of the 2 methods for doing a mockball. Check those out and see if they help.

@Ranos17 If you slow down the game on a ZSNES it's pretty easy XD

it 'mocks' the speed that you were using when running
