If there is hyperinflation in the US it won't be as bad as Zimbabwe. They kicked out the farmers and wonder why they have no food. People still know how to grow crops and raise chickens in America.

You have to have money for seeds. Are those fruirts and vegetables even able to grow in that soil? And what do you do while waiting for the food to grow?

Zimbabwe soils are very good. Even Livingstone noticed in his memoirs that the soils of Zimbabwe are one of the best he has ever seen. Rhodesians grew in these soils not only tomatoes and bananas, but every possible kind of fruit or vegetable, wheat, best ion the world tobacco, sugar cane, exotic fruits, even resin.

So the problem is not soil, apparently.

You have to own land or at least find a patch no one will be bothered if you use.

You have to have some modicum of expertise to grow the selected crop.

You have to have access to seeds and preferably some amount of pesticides, fertilizers and irrigation.

You have to have access to transportation and solid infrastructure if you want to grow something like bananas; don't store long enough, you must sell them.

You have to be able to ward of desperately hungry people from your crops.

In 1972 UK finally talked Rhodesia into a compromise. Blacks were offered:

In May 1972 Africans gave unequivocal no to the proposals.

By now they could have lived not worse than US blacks.

After the farmer is evicted or killed, war vets pillage his personal belongings and farm tools, they even pull up irrigation pipes and sell them for scrap metal, they tear out baths and toilets, remove window frames and electrical wiring all for sale. Frequently the marauders turn weapons on each other fighting for their share. The farm turns into ruins and very little farming goes on the farm. The invaders have no seeds or fertilizer and absolutely no idea about running a large farm.

Next, a farmer gets rounded up, overpowered and beaten or killed. 18 April 2000 Martin Olds was surrounded this way by 100 war vets with AK47 shooting at his house. One of the bullets smashed his leg bone. He radioed for help, but local farmers could not get to him because police set up roadblocks around the farm. Olds managed to splinter his leg and for three hours held off his attackers with a pistol, crawling from room to room. Finally he was outgunned, dragged out and hacked to death

It is because there is none. The truth is simple: in order to keep in power Mugabe had to find a scapegoat - white farms. I've heard that the black farm workers were thrown off of the "white" famers and, those farms were given to former government soldiers and, supporters. Of course, those people had no knowledge of farming, so we have starvation and, disease.

Real reform would have been to keep the white farms, but make the farm workers co-owners of those farms.

I bet many of these starving people are the same that shouted "pambere ne ZANU" when Mugabe proclaimed the land grab, that cheered at evictions of white farmers and that were dancing and singing at the streets of then Salisbury when Mugabe came to power in 1980.
