It's because he's lived all over the world. His dad was American, his mom was Scottish, he was born in Belgium, and lived in multiple countries growing up.
only outside the studio , when u hear 'm on a roadtrip talkin or somethin like that it sounds pretty brittish but live it sounds.. pretty .. normal to me no? (rather american english than pure english)
I miss the times when musicians actually knew what they were doing. I thank God Placebo's out there to remind me that music is not dead. Or, not yet, anyway.
Brian is so smart. I love hear him talk because everyword he says is reflected and discussed inside his head, i can tell by the way he stops before he talks. and i love the idea of the voice in the back of his head, i couldnt get another phrase to express that feeling he talks about (:
no its not. I'm scottish, when people say I'm english I get pretty annoyed, im british or scottish, never english. I prefer the term british to being specific since we are supposed to be 'united'
Yeah true what Brian saif in the beggening. I discovered Placebo two weeks ago... (i know i'm terrible) and can't believe that som GREAT songs are from 90s, the could be from this year i wouldn't hear any difference.
Someone commented incorrectly and a bit rudely about his sexuality. He's bi-ok? get over it! It's part of what makes him who he is... Also, he doesn't sound British to you? Wow,you mean people with American accents can be SMART?! Yes,he's brilliant and articulate! I can't wait till the new album comes out. I'm glad Placebo "soldiers on." Thankx for posting-very good interview.
As an artist working on my own project I have never related to and agreed more with this interview. If you have ever written a record (in my case, by myself), you become very critical and your own worst enemy. But, the end result is what it's all worth. Love Placebo!
First 40 seconds says it all. They are Placebo. They make music.
Ive always seen them to be in the background of the 'music scene' just letting the new groups and old groups come and go while they just remain a constant source of amazing live performances, lyrical content, videos and music.
I have a feeling they will never be fully recognised as the true greats that they are.
I think it's a good thing also.. idk, seeing Placebo become a full-blown mainsteam band might spoil some of their genius. but then again maybe not. maybe they'd be one of the few that handle it gracefully.
though they're always the incredible band that only I know about, none of my friends.. like my personal music I'd like to not share. lol
and i think that's good, cuz it makes you feel like the music is actually made just for you, cuz its soo deep that you can actually feel it, and you can identify with, you can even think it was written for you, jajaja idk but that's what happends to me with a lot of their songs, and that's why i think they are so great, so its better like this, not trying to be popular, and just being placebo
it's so relative and close to the core human emotions which absolutely everyone has felt at one time in their lives, I think thats what really allows the message of their lyrics to hit you. and therefore allows you to create a closeness and familiar aspect with the music. thats what makes it brilliant.
i think they will, real recognition usually comes afterwards
they are already a lot diff - arena tours, my friends all know them n have some placebo nowadays, i used to be alone with my love outside of meetings fans at gigs
@Nymphelyn I couldn't agree more. It wouldn't be good if they became really popular, that's just not them. they're different and they like it, so all the people in the world who are different can kinda relate to them. I love Placebo
@onetouchspark His mother was Scottish, but moved to America and became an American citizen. His father is of Italian/French heritage and also moved to America and became an American citizen. They married in New York. Brian was born in Belgium, spent his childhood in Luxembourg, and bounced around between Europe and New York until he moved to England to attend University.
His father is half Italian half French, her mother is scottish, but they met in New York where they got married and they were living for a while. His father, employee of a bank, became expatriate and the family moved to Brussels Belgium, and Brian was born there. Then they moved to Luxembourg, they spent 11 years there and Brian went to the American School. He speaks also French (very well indeed),Luxemburgian and a little German. He is a real international guy, very intelligent and open minded as well.
I think this is just another example, that shows perfectly, how intelligent Mr. Molko is. He's knows how to express himself so well and his English is really, really easy to understand, although I'm not a native speaker.
I like Brian Molko's voice during talking and naturally during singing! He is a pretty awesome and handsome man! I love him so much! Brian Molko and Placebo rocks!
i don't believe it happens very often with other bands/singers, that the more one sees new interviews with him, the more reasons one finds to admire him, not to get disappointed... and this interview is particularly good, it's not like others when he has to talk despite of the interviewer and the circus around
