I like the colorizations often even if the BW iare good quality, and vice versa. M&J toons were often really energetic and held to some kind of a plot. For me they are quite an enjoyable and interesting rediscovery. I know I have seen some in the long ago, but have almost no memory of them, only comic strips and books. I do think the 30's colorizations were richer than the 70s. Everyone always says there were only 2 in the 30s but I think Soda Jerks might also be 30s Kromocolor.
Mutt & Jeff Meet Bugoff had a soundtrack of late-60s/early-70s pop-rock-cabaret-style music , with singing by an offstage narrator/voice - And I think at least a little dialogue by M&J themselves .
That's right, 'Warners'- Modern Film Sales attempted to "restart" a Mutt & Jeff series in 1936 by addding new "synchronized" music and sound effects tracks...and eliminating the original intertitles...to those 1926 cartoons. The "production music" used here seems to be "borrowed" from several Van Beuren soundtracks {by Winston Sharples} from the mid-'30s....
This was one attempt by Radio and Television Packagers in 1973 to "revive" the silent Mutt & Jeff cartoons for TV, with recolored animation {traced in Korea, I believe} with "canned" production music of the '30s and sound effects. Not bad, but when they tried to string some of these into a feature film, "Mutt and Jeff Meet Bugoff", it wasn't that impressive.
