@TheAdultChild101 what are you talking about? you do not have to reach a certain age to enjoy and understand the words of bukowski, i am sixteen and you cant claim i dont know what buk is talking about just because i was born seventy four years after him, besides this guy is at least in his mid twenties. and what do looks have to do with the understanding of poetry either? besides, this guy has a big scar on his face.

@TheAdultChild101 did Buk ever say "you have to be ugly to be in the club"? of course, buk resented put on machoism, pampered men, and i agree with that, but the majority of people are born with general decent looks and that doesnt mean they dont understand poetry. if you want to step that far into "the club", then why not live in squalor, lose your computer and immerse yourself in something more real than deciding who is "ugly enough" to join. Besides, the guy in the video isnt pretty
@TheAdultChild101 no, you arent. if you were already there, you would have

@darthsarth Man, expressionative, heh, your missin a lot of the point i feel, maybe i'm wrong, but have you ever felt like that, first day's cigarette, hung over or just miserable, i bet you have.
If you've ever worked a dead end job that made your life a living hell, and you coped with the agony by drinking, fucking, and gambling in excess amounts, you're probably a fan of this man's literature.
@darthsarth It was done once, totally improvisational. I was in the shots while operating the camera too, which if you took note of the shot with the sunlight behind me, or the shadow without a hint of the camera being held in my hand while capturing the cigarette smoking profile of myself at the same time as I zoomed in insanely close - stably! If that is not impressive in itself, then what is?
@Spooly i found it, interesting, there is some much more you could of done with it. but i like the disappointed feeling afterwords, i feel like it brought that out in the poem, and it did neither detract nor add to the poem.
it simply excentuated the feeling of, loneliness, isolation, a day comes and goes, and it all seems so disaapointing, you almost wish there was more, but you realize you're glad there wasn't because it allows you to imagine. to long for more. it extends that, i think.
What exactly gives you the right to declare what is or is not art? Just because you don't like it does not mean it is not art, and just because you major in art does not mean you can declare something is not.
Wow, a big bad art major. I guess you think a piece of paper that states you know art translates into you actually being an artist or knowing anything about art for that matter? Tell you what, why don't go sip a $5 coffee with your other 'lets waste mommy and daddy's money' school chums and discuss how you're all going to change the world through finger painting. And while your at put some thought into actually getting a real degree.
@DeadBunny69 i'm an art major, bukowski is one of my heroes. i'm animating a piece based on an excerpt from ham on rye. i don't think most students there like me or agree with my art, but that's because they are the five dollar coffee variety. they copy other peoples art all day and congratulate eachother on how cool it looks because it looks like something else that they think is cool. they pretend to be hip and trendy because in their little asshole world it validates them.
@DeadBunny69 every one is an artist, in their own right. i bet when bukowski was in the beginnings he had the same things said to him. think about that, how people only achieve true fame after that. oh, what, like you are some art critic. why don't you isolate yourself, and take away from yourself, by giving so much, and only getting shit on, why do you think the blue bird is hidden in cB's heart. because of people like you. an art degree? an art degree, is not a piece of paper, it's expeience.
@fishnetsNcigarettes 1. Is that what your art teacher told you? 2. Art critic? Seriously, why don't you just call me a child rapist. 3. No it's not because of people like me it's has more to do with the institutions you seem to think are the end all in determining what art is. 4. Again, an art degree does not make you an artist or give u any right to determine what is art. 5. Shouldn't you be on the phone with mom and dad begging for money so you can keep pretending you're something you are not?

seriously never understood why people hated this man. i know he could be a bit lacking in the whole sympathy department but jesus christ, listen to this.
People despised---still despise--- Charles Bukowski because he wrote about how much he loved pussy. And he drank, smoked, and cursed a lot.
Bukowski was not a hypocrite, he lived his life HIS way, unlike Americans, who you'll find most of the time acting morally superiour while they cheat on their spouse or sneak off to masturbate in the bathtub the second their spouse falls asleep.
@holden1787 you think masturbating when the old lady won't give it up is immoral? If cheating is out of the question, what's a guy supposed to do, let the sperm build up until your sack swells up like a fucking balloon?
Hahahaha. People can be quick to type on here without thought. A comment on the subject - I always saw some kind of similarity between Bukowski and Lebowski. It was the despair I think. The disapproval of social "normalcy." And I love that movie just as much as I love Bukowski's work.

Funny how no one commented on the poem, if i felt that way all the time i'd probably kill myself...than again, i dont drink. the sane are crazier than the insane.
Yeah, I hear you, it's just that the music is so damned good and Buk's voice is clear, if you ran it through sound forge and got rid of the hiss it would be perfect..
yeah, love the song. the quality of the original bukowski recording is rough and pretty cool. imagining him just pushing record on one of those old tape recorders like the rest of us did back then, instead of him in a pricey studio - gotta dig that unassuming attitude of his.
(The Guardian's Review) We thought we'd celebrate the fuggy artistry of the demon weed with Joel Vetsch's moody black and white paean to smoking. To the accompaniment of Charles Bukowski's ultra-cool drawled reading of his poem to the everyday "Something for the Touts, the Nuns, the Grocery Clerks and You", our hero fires up more fags than Dot Cotton, while mooching artily around the frame. Savour the smoke, Bukowski's gravelly delivery, or just wallow in the sheer existential ennui of it all.
you can convince anyone. especially in these times, what is worth something and what is worth nothing. this is equal to rap. this guy...i feel embarassed for this fool...he thinks he is cool. he believes he is deep. when he is just a loser.

What more could we ask for, then to be aspired by simple words..
lines on a page...
print or video or audio.
and to think of such a refined word as art?
All we can ask for, is to be stunned by garbage in the gutter.

Very cool. I enjoyed a cigarette along with you as I watched and listened to the grandeur of Bukowski. Thank you.

Never saw that many credits for a 4 minute film.
Great Buk poem, nonetheless.

Funny how no one commented on the poem, if i felt that way all the time i'd probably kill myself...than again, i dont drink. the sane are crazier than the insane.

Good concept.. Shitty remix, REMOVE THE HISSSSSSSSSSSS, awful sample tape hiss

Did not mess with the original Bukowski tape recording I found in mp3 format. Just used it as is, 100% Natural.

Glad you liked those two videos. More 'Cigarette Sessions' coming featuring these people's words:
Kafka, Shakespeare, Hunter S. Thompson, Ingmar Bergman and more... those are just the confirmed ones. So stay tuned Sandra.

visually, this has the feel of a Warhol film. Kudos.

Very nice but why did you have to abridge the original poem? You 86'd a few lines that may have fit the mood quite well - the hotel in Detroit, etc.
