  • you can convince anyone. especially in these times, what is worth something and what is worth nothing. this is equal to rap. this guy...i feel embarassed for this fool...he thinks he is cool. he believes he is deep. when he is just a loser.

  • What more could we ask for, then to be aspired by simple words..

    lines on a page...

    print or video or audio.

and to think of such a refined word as art?

All we can ask for, is to be stunned by garbage in the gutter.

  • Beware the knowers, the judgers and the commenter's. For it is in there ill intent that the thinness of their soul is revealed.

  • tho im not some self- appointed internationally respected genius in the art of film critique aka darksarth i love the film

  • the best part of the video is the sound wtf is the shitty rest?.

  • not to be a dick, but this kind of clip completey reveals the gross and conflicting understanding people under the age of sixty have today of artists like bukowski and anyone else born in the twenties or earlier. there is nothing hip or even literary about bukowski at all; he was lowlife alchoholic scum, and while being a jazz musician i love the music you picked, i can't possibly think of any music that's less appropriate for a clip of bukowski speaking. and the cigarettes? grow some balls...

  • No offence, but you are too young and pretty to be in a Buk vid. But I appreciate the post anyway.

  • @TheAdultChild101 what are you talking about? you do not have to reach a certain age to enjoy and understand the words of bukowski, i am sixteen and you cant claim i dont know what buk is talking about just because i was born seventy four years after him, besides this guy is at least in his mid twenties. and what do looks have to do with the understanding of poetry either? besides, this guy has a big scar on his face.

  • @elstroshitnonstop Well, since I wasn't even talking to you, I'm finding it a little hard to understand why you be offended at all.

  • @TheAdultChild101 i'm not offended, i dont even know the guy. but i saw that your comment was totally irrelevant, what made you think that age and looks constitute a true bukowski fan?

  • @elstroshitnonstop Becuase you have to be ugly to be in the club. Are you ugly?

  • @TheAdultChild101 did Buk ever say "you have to be ugly to be in the club"? of course, buk resented put on machoism, pampered men, and i agree with that, but the majority of people are born with general decent looks and that doesnt mean they dont understand poetry. if you want to step that far into "the club", then why not live in squalor, lose your computer and immerse yourself in something more real than deciding who is "ugly enough" to join. Besides, the guy in the video isnt pretty

  • @elstroshitnonstop Already there.

  • @TheAdultChild101 no, you arent. if you were already there, you would have

    1) got rid of your computer

    2) be living in squalor, which you clearly dont, as you have a computer

and 3) immersed yourself into something more real than deciding who is "ugly enough to join".

yet you havent ticked any of those boxes. i really dont understand you, i think someone needs to be honest to you and tell you that you are quite contradictary and fake. just think about it, honesty is bliss.

  • @elstroshitnonstop Whatever. Buh-Bye!

  • @elstroshitnonstop if honesty is bliss, then let me be dumb, let me bleed, and hurt and feel pain.

i am a walking contradiction. but that in my opinion is very human. i change alot.

i feel one way one moment and completely different the next, if that be a crime, shoot me now. open up your heart. your mind, don't be sheep/cattle. mindlessly barreling through conversation after conversation without anything to show for it. i feel the creative liscensies, is fluid enough to let people sayNthink

  • @elstroshitnonstop because that is what i feel, and know to be true, in me. i am not saying you are wrong, i am only pointing out that we are all contratidictive, in some form, why is an infinite word. it can go on forever.

just like feelings and thoughts, i don't know about you, or anyone else. but i am inifinite, i feel, always, i think, intensely. i feel and think, and live, and grow, and i take what i need and give all of myself. maybe that is wrong, and maybe i did not answr your question.

  • @elstroshitnonstop @elstroshitnonstop @elstroshitnonstop (cont.) why?how?what?who?when?where?these are all important questions, but they are also very misleading, they can distract us from the main point of view. which is, do what what you feel is right. regardless if it contradicts what you felt before. It's okay. we all do it.If we did not, then how would we learn?how would we grow? there is yet another distraction, how?

  • Tom Waits ! Bukovski !

Super !

  • yeah!! spooly be passionate and disallow comments on this vid, thanks for posting.

I Shouldn't be wasting my time on this reply stuff, but any way thanks i really appreciate this material

  • Jeez, this is pretentious and bad. Terrible mix.

  • im not sayin' it's amazing but i liked it. i liked it very well.

@darthsarth Man, expressionative, heh, your missin a lot of the point i feel, maybe i'm wrong, but have you ever felt like that, first day's cigarette, hung over or just miserable, i bet you have.

so what are you lookin' down yer nose for?

  • 14 charlotte link reader voted don't like

  • Hey man, what is that sweet tune in the background? Thank you

  • niiiice.

  • @darthsarth It was done once, totally improvisational. I was in the shots while operating the camera too, which if you took note of the shot with the sunlight behind me, or the shadow without a hint of the camera being held in my hand while capturing the cigarette smoking profile of myself at the same time as I zoomed in insanely close - stably! If that is not impressive in itself, then what is?

  • @Spooly i found it, interesting, there is some much more you could of done with it. but i like the disappointed feeling afterwords, i feel like it brought that out in the poem, and it did neither detract nor add to the poem.

it simply excentuated the feeling of, loneliness, isolation, a day comes and goes, and it all seems so disaapointing, you almost wish there was more, but you realize you're glad there wasn't because it allows you to imagine. to long for more. it extends that, i think.

  • @darthsarth starred in this and shot it myself in about 5 minutes. cut me some slack? Sheezus.

  • someone is trying to emulate the sinister stylistic nature of Bukowski...

  • the best days are some times the first some times the middle and even some times the last- Charles Bukowski

  • amazing

  • staring at a light like a fly

watching a nucluar explosion in slowmotion

no motion comes commences into a dynamic world surrounding.

  • its an opinion.

  • What exactly gives you the right to declare what is or is not art? Just because you don't like it does not mean it is not art, and just because you major in art does not mean you can declare something is not.

  • You fucking art fags. Wouldn't know talent if it bit you in the ass. Take your major and shove it, baby, shove it

  • you wouldn't know art if it bit your fat, dumb ass.

  • lol youre cute, i happen to be an art major :) funny though

  • Cool, I'm an English major. There's more than one kind of art.

  • "Everyone knows the dumbest people at any university are in the education department, and in the English department after that." --Kurt Vonnegut

Then again, I think he flunked out of Cornell.

There are some things you just can't teach--like talent.

  • Wow, a big bad art major. I guess you think a piece of paper that states you know art translates into you actually being an artist or knowing anything about art for that matter? Tell you what, why don't go sip a $5 coffee with your other 'lets waste mommy and daddy's money' school chums and discuss how you're all going to change the world through finger painting. And while your at put some thought into actually getting a real degree.

  • hahaha fingerpaiting...that kicked ass...

  • @DeadBunny69 i'm an art major, bukowski is one of my heroes. i'm animating a piece based on an excerpt from ham on rye. i don't think most students there like me or agree with my art, but that's because they are the five dollar coffee variety. they copy other peoples art all day and congratulate eachother on how cool it looks because it looks like something else that they think is cool. they pretend to be hip and trendy because in their little asshole world it validates them.

  • @DeadBunny69 LOL Right on!

  • @DeadBunny69 every one is an artist, in their own right. i bet when bukowski was in the beginnings he had the same things said to him. think about that, how people only achieve true fame after that. oh, what, like you are some art critic. why don't you isolate yourself, and take away from yourself, by giving so much, and only getting shit on, why do you think the blue bird is hidden in cB's heart. because of people like you. an art degree? an art degree, is not a piece of paper, it's expeience.

  • @fishnetsNcigarettes 1. Is that what your art teacher told you? 2. Art critic? Seriously, why don't you just call me a child rapist. 3. No it's not because of people like me it's has more to do with the institutions you seem to think are the end all in determining what art is. 4. Again, an art degree does not make you an artist or give u any right to determine what is art. 5. Shouldn't you be on the phone with mom and dad begging for money so you can keep pretending you're something you are not?

  • @DeadBunny69 i hated my art teacher, he was an arrogant prick, like you. you missed everything i said. i am against institutions. the only thing any institution has ever done is alienated me. art degree? i SAID it is only a fucking piece of paper. MY FATHER IS FUCKING DEAD!!!YOU STUPID IGNORANT TWAT!! my mother is disabled. and we are FUCKING impoverished. the worse form of violence, is poverty. i'd say the second kind, is illeterate scum fucks like you, learn how to read bitch.

  • @DeadBunny69 you know what, fuck off. you are so full of shit. maybe i didn't say exactly what i meant to say. but you sir, are a pompus ass. and you don't know shit. if you only understood what i was TRYing to say, you fucking, GOD. don't you understand how to read. not just read, and make assumptions based on your pre judgement. but try to open up your eyes and understand? you missed the whole point. and you a very mistaken.

  • enough said.

  • i like rod mckuens idea of love more

  • Smoking.....I have a friend who lost a third of his face and neck due to smoking. He'll be 40 soon. How old are you?

  • 30, and I smoke on very rare occasions. This is an art film. Not a smoking ad.

  • @sclogse1

    what is life for?

  • what isn't cliche? alligators in batman pajamas maybe. but still yet, that seems like intentional surrealim bullshit. oh what to do, if only everyone was always original. sorry bout' the sarcasm i'm a bit tipsy. just trying to make a point for some reason. write me a crude message back about how dumb i am. seems like that's how the youtube types roll. peace. holden caufeild?

  • Hey man don't get so bent---I just stated my opinion that your film is cliche. No big deal.

What isn't cliche? you ask. You'll have to read Bukowski or his hero, John Fante, for the answer to that one.

And by the way, I don't "roll with the youtube types." I have a mind of my own.

  • Maybe your mind is cliche?

  • So best ist Ch´Bukowsky and so blöde langweilige Vodeo-hintergrund gewesen war. Jungs! Sprechen wir uns noch irgendwann.. irgendwo--

  • Bukowski ist sehr gut. Aber sprechen Sie Englisch bitte. KEINER versteht Deautsche.

seriously, all i learned from one semester of German in high school.

as far as the video goes: i love it. Also, Ol' ChukBuk is the man, of course, and I don't think anybody visiting here will argue that.

Perhaps we should all stop getting so deep? It is, after all, the internet.

Spooly, I dig the video a lot. However, your brand of cigarette sucks. I'm a Marlboro Menthol kinda guy. :)

  • Buk's birthday is coming up - August 16th ...

  • seriously never understood why people hated this man. i know he could be a bit lacking in the whole sympathy department but jesus christ, listen to this.

  • People despised---still despise--- Charles Bukowski because he wrote about how much he loved pussy. And he drank, smoked, and cursed a lot.

Bukowski was not a hypocrite, he lived his life HIS way, unlike Americans, who you'll find most of the time acting morally superiour while they cheat on their spouse or sneak off to masturbate in the bathtub the second their spouse falls asleep.

  • lol yea, that sounds like Bukowski pretty much. americans suck baddddd

  • @holden1787 you think masturbating when the old lady won't give it up is immoral? If cheating is out of the question, what's a guy supposed to do, let the sperm build up until your sack swells up like a fucking balloon?

  • I like the film where he was a professional bowler.. : )

  • LOL.

    Yeah

    The Big Bukowski. LOL

    Obviously he wasn't a golfer.

  • i'd feel almost honored if he pissed on my rug.

  • Almost, ALMOST.

  • @josefabdon No...Woo.. peed on the rug.

  • i'd punch him in the goddamn face

  • fuck you, shithead. you wouldnt know talent if it fucked you in your loose cum filled asshole. fuck you. long live Charles!

  • lol i love how people really didn't take me saying "The Dude" seriously. I meant The Dude as in Jeff Lebowski. Goddamn you people, goddamn you all.

  • Hahahaha. People can be quick to type on here without thought. A comment on the subject - I always saw some kind of similarity between Bukowski and Lebowski. It was the despair I think. The disapproval of social "normalcy." And I love that movie just as much as I love Bukowski's work.

  • Amen. I love both in the same as well. I think The Dude was a lot looser with his life though.

  • Do you think he would take it all back if he saw the iPhone?

  • You are a legend big drunken Bukowski is plenty of soil.

  • Thank you, Mr. Bukoski.

  • life in the day of...somber...someone's reality...what of joys and humanity...amidst pain and life and depression...anyway, well presented

  • Excellent

  • very great

  • Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed every oozing pore of it.

  • We have everything and we have nothing.

  • not the best reading of this poem, but it's still more than the average

  • uhh..its only bukowski himself, haha.

  • i don't know if you knew this, but many poets read their poems more than once, and as a consequence, there are many different recordings that differ. listen to the reading of this same poem, but from Poems & Insults...it's much better

  • of course I knew this, smartass! I didn't know if you knew it was the writer reading it or what..maybe you were a dumbass or something. but you're not, apparently.

  • i'm sorry, i shouldn't have been mean.

  • ZING!

  • one can stop the other from bloom.

  • The artistic form..

  • chasing your wife around the kitchen with a steak knife because you are positive that she is a fire breathing troll sent from hell to enslave you.-schitzo

    putting it to rhyme-poetry

  • organization...

    wait,

    nevermind....

    Bukowski would have agreed.

  • fantastic.

  • Very cool. I enjoyed a cigarette along with you as I watched and listened to the grandeur of Bukowski. Thank you.

  • Great video. Damnit now I'm going outside to smoke.

  • Never saw that many credits for a 4 minute film.

    Great Buk poem, nonetheless.

  • Well, star-writer-music-director-title.

I think each deserves a credit, don't you?

    :p

  • Its a narrative method

  • yeah man . . .

    . . . god Damn it!

    pour me another drink,

    i don't care

    where's the matches

  • Funny how no one commented on the poem, if i felt that way all the time i'd probably kill myself...than again, i dont drink. the sane are crazier than the insane.

  • Good concept.. Shitty remix, REMOVE THE HISSSSSSSSSSSS, awful sample tape hiss

  • Did not mess with the original Bukowski tape recording I found in mp3 format. Just used it as is, 100% Natural.

  • Yeah, I hear you, it's just that the music is so damned good and Buk's voice is clear, if you ran it through sound forge and got rid of the hiss it would be perfect..

  • yeah, love the song. the quality of the original bukowski recording is rough and pretty cool. imagining him just pushing record on one of those old tape recorders like the rest of us did back then, instead of him in a pricey studio - gotta dig that unassuming attitude of his.

  • I think that's Tears For Dolphy by Ted Curson...avaialble on I-Tunes....

  • absolutely correct. great song. :)

  • good stuff!!

  • Once again...i love your choice in music.. :)

  • Excellent. Loved your Nietzsche piece as well.

  • Glad you liked those two videos. More 'Cigarette Sessions' coming featuring these people's words:

Kafka, Shakespeare, Hunter S. Thompson, Ingmar Bergman and more... those are just the confirmed ones. So stay tuned Sandra.

  • visually, this has the feel of a Warhol film. Kudos.

  • (The Guardian's Review) We thought we'd celebrate the fuggy artistry of the demon weed with Joel Vetsch's moody black and white paean to smoking. To the accompaniment of Charles Bukowski's ultra-cool drawled reading of his poem to the everyday "Something for the Touts, the Nuns, the Grocery Clerks and You", our hero fires up more fags than Dot Cotton, while mooching artily around the frame. Savour the smoke, Bukowski's gravelly delivery, or just wallow in the sheer existential ennui of it all.

  • Very nice but why did you have to abridge the original poem? You 86'd a few lines that may have fit the mood quite well - the hotel in Detroit, etc.

  • Buk. The Greatest of all Times. Period.

"Humanity. You never had it from the beginning." --- Buk
