@kev3d Yeah I mean, bad-ass as they are, what are Sardukar infantry, armed only with assault rifles, with no armour support, artilliery and no signifigant air support, expect to do against a frikkin sandworm?
@weldonwin in the book the storm was so bad that the ground and air units were pulled into shelter, muad dib had seen the storm coming, predicted this and planned the attack for that reason.
The assault scene is the one that aged the worse...
Dune is a book of Machiavellian intrigue, with the occasional action sequences.
If Lynch would've paid more attention to Dune's dialogue instead of being fascinated by its onirism (i.e. the power of dreams)... Can't blame the producers for everything!
All this detail is nice and fine, but sometimes it does of course disturb the flow.
The theatrical release is very trippy. I guess Lynch would have wanted a somewhat slower pace, with some more scenes, but I don't think he wanted to bombard us with detail either.
The job is well done, but the priority is yet another here.
I love how the make the "good" guys win just cause they're good guys ))))

I love the way Alia makes her grandmother (the Reverend Mother) squirm.

@ 4:44 Apparently the Emperor employed Tycho Brahe and Sitting Bull as Sardaukar Generals.

I love this movie, I just don't get where they got the atomics from. Are they really that easy to obtain?

Captured during the years of warfare?

@textthing
That's plausible. Especially if it was stolen from Raban, who might neglect to mention that he messed up yet again and lost some atomic...

@AspiringPotato Every great houses of the Landsraad have a stockpile of atomics and atomic-based weapons. These are the Atreides stockpile.

Oh my got, Alia is so cheesy in this movie! It is sad, that the Sardaukar lost, because they are freaking awesome!
Furorus2kGer 1 year ago
@Furorus2kGer They are, but the Fremen are equally awesome: they are the only troops who can truly stand toe to toe against Sardaukars. :-)

"Bring in that floating fat man..." why did he need to specify the Baron? Are there more fat guys floating around in the palace we should know about?

In the novel, Paul's son Leto II is killed in the raid by the Emperor.

If this is something less than a great battle scene, surely it's something more as well:
The lack of realism and fake-looking effects make it seem like the re-telling of a fantastic myth - an impression which the music reinforces.
