  • i love the zebra pillow lol

  • :D I am no doubter, I just reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wanted to check this out!

  • I am so fuckin happy to say that september 15 is my birthday =]

  • I'm officially hooked on your TOS Analyzation/Commentary and The Ship's closet. You're what I look forward too when watching TOS episodes. You go over all the things I noticed, and even more things that I missed. You also present other, logical ideas for situations as well as the anti-K/S views. You did stall quite a bit early in the episode, but I think you have it on track now. :D

  • Sadly, I've seen worse (Doctor Who. The earliest episodes have alien spaceships made of tinfoil, on plywood, with X-mas lights)

  • Hell, yes!! I knew that you were Britanny Diamond from ff.net, I recognized your phrase from the beginning (I don't support K/S and make up evidence, I support K/S because of the evidence)!!

    I just knew it!!!!

Girl I'm totally with you with this!!!!!!

  • YOU calling ME awesome made me squee. I'm a new trekkie and your like my trekkie foster mother. I. LOVE. YOU. You do an amazing job with your episodes and your Analyzation/Commentary of TOS. I know theres no way you'll reply to this, you're far to busy with everything else I'm sure, but thank you so so so so so much. Your intelligent and beautiful and claver and funny and I think I might actually be fangirling over YOU now and it's creepy so I'll stop. <3

  • gotta love how the characters Never freak out at the TERRIBLE special effects they just stare in a wtf Fashion

  • Definitely staying tuned.

The manner in which you discuss this is lovely. You are not forcing K/S on those who don't see it, or don't believe.

I dare say Spock would find this quite logical.

    Cheers xx

  • this was terrific, will definitely be watching the rest of the eps as well as checking out your reviews on ff

  • Fantastic show! I found you through your im things on deviant art, I'm glad I found this, I intend to watch all of them.

  • Comment removed

  • my friend (who is also named Brittney) got me into Star Trek not to long ago. I'm ashamed to say, my attention usually went to Scotty and my absolute favorite charater Chekov. (not as a couple, just i love these two to death)

so when she approched me with the idea of Kirk/Spock, i was sceptical, but really didnt have anything to say agaist it. Then she linked me to these videos, and might I say, you made a beliver outta me. :)

  • Me and my twin didn't start watching star trek tos till we read your work on ff she and me thank you

  • I love McCoy's expression when he sees the rabbit. lol.

Thank you for posting this and your commentary!

  • So great! I'll definitely be tuning in for more!

  • Awesome first episode! I'm a new Star Trek fan and this is majorly helpful in bringing me up to speed. I'll definitely be sticking around for more. :D

  • I LOVE YOU!

  • You're amazing :D

You bring up VERY good points about the pairing. I see them as canon and most of my friends mock me for that. Thank you for proving that Kirk/Spock fans aren't idiots!

  • you're so awesome! your analizations made me fall i love with TOS!!!!!! THANK YOU for what you do and pliiiiiiz don't ever stop!!!!!!!1

  • Omg you are so awesome for making this!!! I'm all alone in my K/S obsession so it's so nice to know there are other people like myself out there who love it just as much as I do! I have subsribed and egarly await your next episode!

  • You're awesome, definitely gonna follow this XD

  • Hehehe your face after the giant rabbit!!! Yay 60's!

Yaaaay that was brilliant *applauds* Can't wait for next episode!

  • Omg, I love you, I love you, I love you! Seriously. I think what you're doing is awesome! And I agree with you on 99% of the things you say. Kirk/Spock is so totally canon.

Plus, I think you're super pretty too. Can't wait for the next episode.

  • You are my hero for putting so much effort into compiling and organizing all of information that into this.

    That is all.

  • I've been reading the TMP novel and during the scene where Spock first appears on the bridge, Kirk thinks on page 98:

"But it still felt painful to be reminded so powerfully and unexpectedly of his friendship and affection for Spock—theirs had been the touching of two minds which the old poets of Spocks home planet had proclaimed as superior even to the wild physical love which affected Vulcans every seventh year during pon farr."

    Can anyone say 'bondmate?'

  • @BigMamaG Referring to the page 98 quote you mentioned, that also looks a lot like how heterosexual love was compared to homosexual love in ancient Greece (I think); that is, as women were seen as lesser beings (I know they aren't in Star Trek, but bear with me) the love of two men for each other was spoken of as the highest and purest form of love, as it was not just a meeting of bodies but of minds. Just thought I'd throw that out there. It may have been a deliberate similarity. :D

  • You are a very professional, high-level fangirl. I admire that. And your comments are brilliant. Can't wait for the next episode. Also, kudos for the opening sequence.

  • Why thank you!!

The opening was edited by the great and powerful ImaginarySanity. I only chose the music, the genius credit goes to her. =D

  • awesome

  • Thanks for making this! XD

  • Just love to say that you have an amazing grasp of comedy in all of its forms; your delivery style with pauses and facial expression and body language is all perfect. You win at life.

  • This is wonderful!

You never see people give logical explanations for things like this...they just spurt the first random thing that pops out of their head.

I love you for doing this! :D

  • You know, if I had other hobbies to begin with, I'm pretty sure I would have dropped them all to follow your work.

I hope that I'm able to catch up and return to being a "normal" person with a variety of interests.

  • So much love for you right now! Thank you so so SO much for doing this!

  • That was just bloody fantastic, well done love. Only one request, next time can you do the scene at the end of the Horta episode where Kirk gets him back for The Backrub scene? Just to prove it goes both ways? Seriously though, this was brilliant. You are the Captain of Awesome.

    Sincerely,

    Scales

  • This is so totally EPIC!!! Like seriously...epic!!!

  • It's awesome to see the face behind the genius TOS commentaries! You have great comedic timing, BTW. I can't wait for the next episode. Oh man, I can't wait until you get to mind-melds and bonding and all that good stuff! *sigh* It's good to know someone else is in love with the word t'hy'la and all of its meanings!

  • I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

I can really think of anything more coherent to state... you're touching down on all the evidence that I would have, and DO to all my friends that dont think the two of them are canon. Also you are SO charismatic, and HILARIOUS!! I laughed so hard at all your gay comments. Put the nail in the big gay coffin I think was one of yours?? fuckin' flooored me.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Im SOOO subscribed.

  • You. Me. Marriage. Then children. We'll name the Kirk and Spock.

    Ready, set, GO!!!!!

  • I think this first episode was totally awesomeness! I e-mailed you more of my thoughts because Ifear the comments getting cut off, but I had to say something here as well.

  • I love you.

    Please marry me.

    xD

  • You should so talk about Vulcan kissing!

  • YAAAY 60's!

You, Captain, are Jesus. Cap'n Jesus of the Spork Ship.

  • I love this so much and wait {im}patiently for the next exciting installment :D (will they be weekly? Biweekly? Monthly? Whenever?)

  • Right now it's looking like biweekly, but once I get into the groove of producing these things it could turn into weekly. It all depends, at this point. =D

  • Love this lots!

Can't wait for the next episode!

  • YAY 60'S!

    :)

    Brilliant, as per usual.

  • (concl) Roddenberry expressed regret that he had not, when he had full creative control, already done so. He wanted to, but Paramount told him hell no but allowed one episode to quiet him and PFLAG. I think he would have leapt at the chance to say, Slash relationships? I did that first, recognise me and pay me for the book I am going to write about it.

But I'm loving the analysis regardless.

  • HOWEVER, and this is a big however, as you said, Paramount said hell no about it when he tried.

If we think about all the other "radical" liberties they let him take, it really does not surprise me that, if he broached the idea of homosexuality on public television, they would say, "Uh, one step too far, there Gene. Back it up a bit."

Therefore, as he was NOT actually the first person to do the slash relationship thing, marketing it would be fraudulent.

  • Even so, if he had attempted to put a homosexual relationship on TV, he surely would have told the story of how his forward-minded attempt was vaporised by corporate fear. And that's my point. If it was intentional, done knowingly, someone, be it him or a member of his team would have spoken up.

  • I suppose so.

Neither of us can really say for certain. for example, I can't concretely say, "Yes. It was intentional. he meant to do it and then he just didn't talk about it." (Even though I REALLYREALLY want to, because, in my opinion, theirloveissocanon)

But in the same breath, you can't concretely say, "No. It was unintentional because he didn't talk about it." because unless you've actually asked him about it, you can't be sure.

I believe this is called an impasse. :)

  • On that point I can agree with you, shutterflie. That's why I politely presented my point, hoping the author would address it some how since that is the only part I cannot see past. I see support for both sides of the argument, you see, but in the end, I think of the bottom line. It would have been a missed financial opportunity for no one to say, "this was intentional." D.C. Fontana and few other writers could confirm it now, when the public is more accepting, but they are mum.

  • OOH quote. Not to disprove your point, I just sort of...found it. And it's from Gene.

"Yes, there's certainly some of that -- certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal-- we never suggested in the series-- physical love between the two. But it's the-- we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century."

So it's, in his opinion, Platonic love. (cont in next post)

  • And for your politeness, I am eternally grateful. Most people who disagree with any points about slash are more like, "OMG THEY ARE NOT TEH GAYZ THAT'S SOOO WRONG!" so I'm very glad that you are coherent and logical in your explanation of your opinion.

I found a quote from Roddenberry about the nature of the K/S relationship. It's looong, so I'll onclude only a bit here: "Yes, there's certainly some of that, certainly with love overtones. Deep love." He says it's not physical, more emotional.

  • I wasn't saying that so much for you but other people who have taken to extremes already. Like everything else, there are nutsos on both sides but, I digress. Emotional love, no doubt. Who else would Kirk blow up his ship for? But the undercover lovers thing is a tough pill to swallow, but I'll keep watching.

  • Oh, I totally understand. Occasionally being one of those nutsos, I get an inside look with the helpful addition of usually being coherent about things. (Sometimes I just go "ASGHJLK GAHH THE SLASH!!" and my brain just walks out on me, but I digress)

Exactly. NOBODY but Spock, that's who. I'm not really sure about the idea of them having sex allll the time (I've read some stuff with it and it's really not my thing) but I like the idea of them being bondmates.

  • In the end, I suppose, it is open for interpretation. Like every other work of art, you see what you want to see. I'm surprised no one asked him straight out, in his later years to definitively answer, yes or no, if there was romantic affection between them. Curious.

  • I agree. To use an example from another fandom, the Remus/Sirius debate in Harry Potter. (I personally support R/S, but that's just me). Nobody can tell for sure.

Perhaps one of the reasons why he hasn't said anything would be that some might think the series "ruined", simply because the Kirk/Spock friendship would be regarded as something different, and that made up a lot of the show.

Also, people are still pretty closed-minded about homosexuality. Look at Prop 8.

  • I wont conjecture about his reasons for wanting to cover it up. That lends to conspiracy theories and Im looking for a yes or no answer.

My point to guinivereXbloodgood was not that homophobia is obsolete. This world is imperfect but a far cry better than it was in the sixties. Weve gone from the violence of The Stonewall riots in 1969 to the peaceful organised Prop 8 marches in 2008. And while the U.S. yet still has far to go to be on par with other nations, it has come a long way.

  • Ughh, conspiracy theories. It's all just...too ridiculous.

I know that wasn't your point, I was merely stating it as perhaps a reason why he hadn't yet said it. I definitely know some people who are very tolerant of homosexuality and have gay friends who would consider the series to be ruined if Roddenberry said that Spock/Kirk was real.

It's not even the U.S in its entirety, it's just some states. Which really irritates me.

  • But he does say it's a possibility "if that were the particular style of the 23rd century."

  • Exactly, which is an open statement sure - but its only open like that because no one KNOWS the social tendancies of the 23rd century.

Ive heard people use this against K/S, "see? he said IF" but seriously >.>

  • He does indeed. We don't know concretely what the particular style of the 23rd century is. (Look at Doctor Who and Torchwood. By then everybody was sleeping with everybody.)

So he's saying that, if, in the 23rd century, people's prejudices were gone and the idea that love is love is love was accepted, then yes, they would be together.

    but we don't know.

  • Yeah, the public may be MORE accepting, but "more" is a relative value. Maybe it's the fact that I live in the Bible Belt, but in my experience, people are much quicker to bash gay things because people are so hyperaware of sexuality in modern culture.

  • I use the term based upon the fact we have openly gay movie stars, performers, talk-show hosts who are not black listed from their craft. In fact they make a mint in earning comparable wages to their straight counterparts. And that there is Hate Crime legislation to ensure their right to be whomever they choose and a handful of states that recognise same sex unions. As a society, we are more accepting than we where in 1966 and I think the ground swell of K/S shippers and supporters proves it.

  • That's because he never attempted to make Kirk/Spock explicit. At no point during his lifetime would the public have been accepting of it. It's not like we think he wrote a K/S sex scene in the script and the network shut him down. But the fact that it's all subtext doesn't make it any less intentional.

  • (cont.) If K/S was part of the ST franchise, Roddenberry would have marketed the hell out of it. He squeezed every drop from the fact he was the first to put people of colour on screen, push social standards, womens rights, all before it was en vogue and acceptable. In the early nineties when gay activists groups where pushing for gay characters on TNG Trek,

  • Im one of those sceptics you spoke of. And I suspended my reservations to watch the entirety of your hilarious—hilarious (plz don't ever change)— and informative programme. But I must say this politely, I do not agree with you.

  • This is amazing! You win for doing this, because this is so totally something I would do. I wanna be a guest panelist on this show. YOU WIN, D'YOU HEAR ME?

  • YAY 60s! And YAY for this show! This was so awesome, Brittany! Thanks for putting it together, and I really look forward to the next one. <3

  • lol YAY 60s for the rabit lol great job!! and i will stay tuned!!

  • Holy shit this was amazing. I can't wait for the next episode!

  • i'm in chile (country beside argentina) and i was alone many years until the movie and my final encounter with this fandom yay!!!

and this talk show of yours is really good!!

I start watch the series n reruns from my chldhood and n the mid 80's when was adolescent i fnd the subtext and when i saw the movie 2 and 3 the slash explode in my face and I'm a happy fangirl since then,

  • You are the best! Thank you very much for this first episode. I hope there is going to be more!

  • HOWEVER (continuing on), in defense of those 'non believers' out there, I can understand how they feel. For those who watched it before they developed 'Gaydar' (either because they were kids or, as you commented, they were the kind of person who was shocked when Elton John came out all those years ago), it would be difficult to watch it again and have to reimagine the entire dynamics of their relationships.

Anyway... Sorry for the rant!!! I have learned a lot from your teachings today :) Thanks

  • My dad can definitely vouch for that!

Interestingly, we were watching Tomorrow is Yesterday the other day (my dad grew up watching TOS), and he was rather surprised at how Kirk greeted Captain Christopher. He could tell from Kirk's expressions that it looked a lot like flirting. He then proceeded cracking (harmless, mind you) gay sex jokes during every scene with them! O_O

He didn't see it back then, but now his gaydar is more honed...and even he can pick up the Kirk/Spock hints now!

  • Have you seen the awesome video on here that analyses that episode? It's genius you have to check it out. Search for "Kirk: A Man's Man"

I ROFL every time I watch it

  • Thank you for putting together this awesome show! I'm fairly new to TOS having only gotten into it after XI, but it's been pretty much the only thing I've watched/discussed/dreamed about for the past few months.

I had only watched a few episodes before realising there was CLEARLY something going on between Kirk and Spock There is also a fair bit of evidence for McCoy and Spock as well (don't hate me lol).

  • Nothing wrong with the good ol' OT3! XD

  • I personally can't believe anything but! :)

  • I think I might of woke up the whole house with my laughter and excitement =) I already am looking forward to the next episode.

  • Congrats on your first episode! =D =D =D

    YAY 60s! bwehehe ^_^

*off to fave-spam all of these* =D

You're very pretty, by the way. Just had to tell ya that.

  • XD

I LOVED this - and the intro and credits sequences were brilliant too! I can't wait for the next episode, and for updates to analyzation/commentary... !!

    Yay 60s!!!!!!

  • Yay first episode. And yay 3:00 am. It's ok, though. I'm still doing homework. Dx;

Anyway, awesome job! I love the intro. And I read the analyzation of the footnote from the ST novel. Very interesting, indeed. >D

Can't wait for more brain-reeling slashy goodness! ~Excited~

  • ::will totally be staying tuned:: OMG NOW I MUST PIMP THIS YAY!!!

PS- Just checking, did you get permission to post those peoples' fanart? Just something you might wanna... do... yeah...

  • ImaginarySanity suggested we use them, so we threw them in and she credited the artists. I'm assuming she either has permission or the artists have granted free usage. If there's a problem I'm sure it's nothing that can't be resolved. =D

  • You have opened my eye's chiquita on the whole Kirk/Spock dealio, I'm gonna stayed tuned for more cause this was very informative. Also which book was it that referred Kirk as Thy'la I am very curious about this.

    :D

  • The book was the novelization of the first Star Trek film called Star Trek: The Motion Picture (they got crazy creative with the title, I know) by Gene Roddenberry.

Thanks SO much for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it. =D

  • Yay 60's! Brilliant ending!

I love the credits :D I've never seen Farfalla's art! Must go hunt down now! But. Must. Also. Sleep... gahhhh!

  • Yaaaay, I watched it all. Now I shall sleep...

  • Yay 60's!!!

    Sorry, love that line!

Even though that was a man in a bunny suit...still more badass than sarkly vampires....*shudders*

  • *Sparkly
