i can recall this incident .and there is no doubt whatsoever .that the sheer torque of the transmission couple to the md655 .was always under estimated .there is not or never has been any comparison with other type 4s operating when these majestic machines ruled the western reigon .hats off to anybody who looks after surviving members of class 52 ..
@SkyJet747 thanks m8 ,, she does haul ass thats for certain + more ,, i find this out standing performance ,, awesome loco .. id like to see a new fleet of these ,,, :)
@dutchtrainmanserie22 thanks for your comment ,,im certain you know of these locomotives ,,a German design ,, and a very good one ! the Germans always make good machines
@baconsandwich2007 Cos the twats in charge of the BRB were anti-hydraulic on the grounds of their being "non-standard"..i.e not being over-weight under-powered diesel-electric shite like the other regions had to live with..not to mention the fact that they didnt like the western regions determination not to toe the line and adopt locos that were crap in comparison to what the hydraulics had to offer...
@magicmaybach ..good cooment mate ,,i agree thats what happened ,, ! shame the hydralics never lasted but they should of the idiots in charge of the railways at that time were very short sighted and cocked it up ,,look at the 1000+40 tour the champ clearly done her fair share of work ! and i must add out performed the modern traction MTU/hsts ,, if i had my way id build a new fleet of hydralics and stickem all on the penz-padds ,, putting railways back on time!
@baconsandwich2007 .... why is not clear m8 ,, i think they cocked up the railways ,, cutting up the 1000.s is still very hard to get ones head around !!! thanks for adding a comment
Doesn't do much for 47760 - is it prone to bad luck??! I remember another 47 sidelined at Salisbury for weeks after it had been dragged out on the back of a train with brakes on.
I knew they were powerful but holy hell - that is one show of power worth watching, even if it was unintended!

Had a bad accident in the early 1970s caused by a locked wheel. It slid do much it built up a false flange and derailed on a switch frog.
