  • I FORGOT HOW TO BEAT THIS STUPID GAME! The reason I am saying "Stupid" is because I used to be able to beat it without a problem. Now I am back to where I used to be of not knowing how to beat the damm game. I am such a stupid idiot now for forgeting that it's soo stupid. I should know how to beat the dam game! LOL

  • man old times takes me back

  • "Ouch! What do you do?!?" So much fun hitting the old people who claimed there was "nothing here"!

  • Man... this is freaking classic. I mean, wow. Hey people, this game rocks. There's a certain angry fool who can go die in a ditch.

  • Never finished this but i also got replies from Nintendo Power personnel in the mail..we were obsessed..ha!I cant wait to see the end on here to close another video game void Ive always wondered about!!.

  • I finally beat the game...w/ NO cheats....I was determined...drew the maps on paper, described every room to a tee: where each ladder landed, what was in each room, where to punch/light each room....AND finally beat the game...it is now one of my fave's b/c it was so difficult!

  • Hahaha yes it is. This game was so awesome. I still have it. I'm gonna go play it now as a matter of fact.

  • Is this game where when you kicked the guy he said "Ouch. Why you do?"

  • AAAAASSSSSSS

  • quanti anni sono passati!!!! amo questo gioco!!! bellissima la canzoncina!!!

  • games like this were designed vague and hard on purpose, not for the challenge to the hardcore gamer, but to make serious money off the official nintendo guides and help hot-line.

    anyone remember those ridiculous hot-lines?

  • No. I wasn't allowed to call those things.

I did write in a couple times to Nintendo Power magazine for help. Wish I knew what I did with the replies they sent back.

  • i played this game forever and only found one person

  • I really love the Goonies....

  • the music is awesome....the first stage song is epic.

  • the music get stuck in my head to this day

  • omg!!! when i was a kid i used to play this gamee and kind of hate it because i never understood what to do in the room i was like 5 years old, but know is in my heart it's a memory from oldschool stuff, like my first nintendo =) <3 duck hunt and the gun!!

  • So was the movie 'The Goonies' based on the video game, or vice versa?Because I could never understand how the game got a sequel if the movie didn't. (Please don't flame me--I'm really just curious)

  • Really? You couldn't just go to Wikipedia? Okay, fine.

The Goonies was a 1985 comedy adventure directed by 'Superman' director Richard Donner, with a screenplay by 'Home Alone' and 'Harry Potter' director Chris Columbus, who made the screenplay on a story idea by Stephen Spielberg. With a pedigree like that, the answer's obvious. Plus the first Goonies came was released in 1986.

The real question is why did Konami make a game based on the Goonies? It couldn't have done THAT well in Japan.

  • Wikipedia is NOT a concrete source for facts. People fuck with the data all the time. Remember when someone changed the date of Kennedy's assassination?

And I didn't ask about the FIRST Goonies. I asked if the movie was actually based on the game. So you never actually answered my question, you just listed the credits of the screenwriter (for reasons unexplained). No offense.

  • Well, I apologize, but trust me, the movie came before the game, that's common knowledge. I listed the credits to drive home the fact that such high-profile creators would most likely NOT be involved in an adaptation of a video game.

Never mind the fact that the video game has almost nothing to do with the movie.

  • And perhaps the most damning piece of evidence: when Konami re-released Konami WaiWai World onto mobile phones recently, they did not have the rights to two of the characters featured: Mikey Walsh from Goonies and King Kong from King Kong 2. If Konami had made the Goonies, they'd still have the rights today.

  • I'm sorry I was such a bitch to you. I'm just retarded and just assumed someone (like film studios)actually gave a shit about video-game to movies back then. Like it would have been cool to find out The Goonies was a game before a movie---that would have added to the mystique or something.

You were really sweet to do research (I'm a girl--that's why I say 'sweet' so much). Thank you :)

  • Heh, wow, damn near forgot about this after 2 months.

You're fine. If anything, I should be sorry (and am), because by god did I act like a 'jump down your throat at the slightest misconception'-type dick, and for that, I apologize.

Thanks for being such a good sport. Most wouldn't be so willing to turn the other cheek.

  • Why would Konami make a game based on the Goonies film? Money

As you noted, there was an NES game entitled Goonies released in 1986 Japan. Konami did seem to have basic rights to release a game. Perhaps there was some other licensing (use of Laupers music), or a production problem (couldnt hit their deadline) that prevented its release in the US. That would explain why there are so many copies in Japan.

  • Makes sense. Just seems like an unlikely license in my eyes, at least in how...un-Goonies like both games are, but maybe they just took as existing game engine and tacked on the necessary details to tie it to the film. Hell if I know.

  • I like the music when you die and during gameplay.

  • Hell how I feel old now! I played this game about 20 years ago...

Loved the game, thought... one of the best games I played with nes ^^

  • I loved this game when I was a kid. I was so stoked when I finally beat it and rescued Annie. I still have my original copy, woot.

  • Yes, he DOES know how to play this game! It's obvious you've never played it cuz you would know what he was trying to do...

  • This guy really doesn't know how to play this game. Why the hell would you even hit a door with the hammer? That's pointless!

  • this has totally ripped off the Ninja Turtles game engine, Better film than the turtles though.

  • This game came out two years before the Ninja Turtles game.

  • I was trying to give the old man the glasses but I couldn't. How do I suppose to give them to the old man? Anyway good vid.

  • out in the garage, ORV,4 wheel drive,

bullet holes THE SIZE OF MATSOBALLS!!!

  • Yeah, this game was a REALLY difficult one to beat. I think I had help from a Nintendo Power magazine!!! LOL (btw, there does exist a Goonies I on NES????) someone else on YT has a Goonies game which says it's the 1st one...

  • It was released "Only in Japan" as people say. It was released only on the famicon (Japanese version of the NES), which was availible to other countries than japan.

Anyway, point is, it wasn't released in the US, with the exception of an arcade version.

  • Ha! i still have this one ^^

played it quite abit in my days

but i was too young to complete it

  • Too bad Konami took a step down with the graphics.

Compare it to the first game and you will see.

  • This is not the first level of Goonies for NES

  • It's goonies II, as he said...

  • This has to be said.

    "Ouch! What do you do?"

  • I'm Eskimo.

  • i played this for hours on end when i was like 6

and i STILL never beat it, it was too hard, dungeon after dungeon, i got lost man

  • maybe we'll see this on VC some day

  • I hope it's on the VC! Lost mine in a house fire... can still beat this by memory!

  • Probably along with the first Goonies NES game.

  • 映画(企画はあるんだけど今だ実現されてない)でやる前にゲームの方で先出ちゃったもんね~(゚∀゚ )

  • This has got to be the second best NES game soundtrack I have ever heard.

  • first is maniac mansion :D

  • I hated this game so much when I was a kid, it was so difficult to figure out exactly what you needed to do on so many parts. you whippersnappers don't know what it was like getting stuck on a game with no internet for searching out tips. If Nintendo Power didn't give you tips and tricks for a game you were having problems with, and you didn't have any gaming prodigies as friends you were pretty much screwed.

  • I got this game at Funcoland and beat it because I still had a copy of The Official Nintendo Player's Guide. That thing told you everything you had to do to beat the game.

  • @bazookafluke I am a gaming prodigy. I don't need the internet or guides to beat these games.

  • @bazookafluke oh god, I got stuck on this game every damn time :( it was a hard game back when I was a little kid

  • Oh memories... I loved this game!

  • this game kicked my ass so many times, finally beat it when i was 18, haha.

  • I remember this game.

  • Jimmy Breeze !

  • oh my god goonies 1 was so much kikass and this one is so crappy, i just cant believe how they screw up a good game like that...

also the tridimensional rooms must be really annoying, im really not gonna play this

  • Did Goonies 1 ever come out for the NES? I loved that game but I only played the arcade version at a Showbiz Pizza.

  • there is a goonies 1 but it was released only in japan. you can probably get a rom dump of it somewhere.

  • @Tork110 of course it did... it was the best version of the goonies games

  • @Tork110 No it didnt come out on the NES, but it did come out of the Famicom.

wait, two years later....do you even care? Meh

  • @Tork110 Goonies 1 was a Famicon Japan-only game.

  • The music is the best

  • the beginning music to this game sounds like girls just wanna have fun. i really like the music.

  • No, it sounds like (and is) "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough", the theme from "The Goonies", also by Cyndi Lauper.

  • very similar to the turtles first agme allrite. still epic though

  • After watching this video, check this one out for a suprise: youtube dot com slash watch?v=jQlbUoEuvM0

  • best game ever. mario bros. was overrated!

  • u suck at this game

  • i dont like goonies 2, the best is still the first gonies...

  • this is not the arcade version

  • I think the engine to this game had to be in very close relationship to the first Ninja Turtles NES game.

Other than that, I remember borrowing this game from a friend when I was just a little kid and I didn't know about those rooms you could go into. I guess I never thought to try. The End.

  • It was a great concept at that time. Like two different games in one. And the music just rocks!

  • classic, brings back memories

  • My friend and I used to play this game when we were kids, lmao.

  • cyndi vania!

  • This game brings back so many memories. The NES and this game changed my life. Those were the good old days.

  • Ouch! What do you do?

  • lol at the item u get in the safe.

  • they called the items or tools you gathered 'implements'. boy, i don't remember that about the game.

  • I wish they would release this on Nintendo Wii as a virtual console download. I crave to pwn this game again!

  • Best. Game. Ever. Thanks for posting this!

P.S. If you hit the Chinaman repeatedly, he gives you a special item - a candle or a football helmet. It's been too long since I played this, so I don't remember which.

  • football helmet

  • Ever hit the Chinaman with the hammer? "What you do?" As a 4 year old, I guess I expected him to shoot fireballs at me like the cave guys in Zelda. The obvious benefit of contemporary games like GTA is the ability to kill people you aren't supposed to kill.

  • god your bad at this

  • zelda cheats

  • lol you suck at this game, lol
