I have this filter on a 75 gallon along with a massive canister filter and a wet 'n' dry I'm cycling the tank about 15 times an hour so that about 1200 gallons an hour in my opinion there can never be to much filtration this filter is a great addition to my tank I also have a 220 gallon that runs nothing but marineland canisters 5 350 magnums and a dual chamber wet 'n' dry
@lgrodnicki You need to "Kick Start" it run some water into the filter and make sure it isnt sucking air. Also make sure the impeller is in its spot correctly
I only dislike the length of the intake tube..... I have a 10 gallon with a bio wheel 150 and I had to leave out some of the intake pieces so it would fit in the tank... But it these filters work great and I would recommend it
You should only really change the filter maybe once every 2-3 years. Regular cleaning should occur about once every month or two depending upon fish load. Get a bucket of tank water(Make sure its tank water!) Then take the wheel out, swish it around in the fish water really well, and put it back in. Waaaalaa! You've kept the biological bacteria alive on the filter and have also gotten alot of the gunk out.
I have this same filter, the girl at the pet store told me that you don't have to change the filter. all you have to do is clean it out. Can you tell me if this is true....all the books say to change them out every 3 to 4 wekks.
@bigsmooth71 You don't HAVE to but it's highly recommend that you do. I put new ones in mine every 4 to 5 weeks or so . I'd say you could go for a long time without changing them but the sponge will not trap as much dirt overtime and the carbon gets used up fast like all carbon. Carbon is what gives you crystal clear water. Like REALLY crystal clear.
dose this filter hand off the side of the tank or what i have a 55 gallon long with a 2 year old snapping turtle in it and the water is about half the tank at all times and i have a lid on the tank so will this filter work?

This guy is pretty dumb. And he doesn't show the part of the installation that I'm having trouble with - I plug it in and nothing happens.

@xquailx I heard getting them for saltwater is pointless. I need a protein skimmer I guess.
