In short we sacrifice some of our liberty to be selfish.

If they do, like most of the other devevloped industrial countries, then it is not slavery; instead it is one of the ways that at least the majority in society agree to make their country a better place and thus provide funding towards it. Believe me, people in most of Europe are extremely happy to pay for others healthcare if neccessary; for what they give themselves they are returned back in their times of need.

taking care of yourself doesn't prevent injury (unless you live your entire life behind the computer). i think the govt needs to step in and put a stop to the insurance companies claiming preexisting conditions every time they might have to pay out some of their bonus money.
Taking care of yourself doesn't mean that accidents can't happen. Some drunk might hit your car and you may get severe injuries that will require surgery, multiple overnights and physical therapy afterwards. How are you going to get that kind of $ so quickly. I have two friends who got hurt this way, minus a drunk driver plus breaks that suddenly stopped working {fortunately for them, they are both from wealthy families so they did not have much to worry about $wise, just getting better}.

I agree with you... I had to have my tonsils removed in November, after two trips to the emergency room with ridiculously swollen tonsils. Off the top of my head the total cost (if I had no insurance) was in the 10 thousands. Keep in mind I am a college student who is still on her dad's health insurance policy, so I did not have nearly as much to pay. But if I were someone with little to no health insurance I would have been fucked financially.

The only car insurance you must have is liability insurance. That covers others if you damage their property with your car. You do not have to cover yourself. This is all done at the state level where it belongs. There is nothing in the Constitution that permits the Feds to force health care on the people of the states. Why doesn't Obama just force people to pay for their own medical care? What could be more fair than that?
Let see the problem with that is the Insurance companies are out to get rich, People can't get covered because of preexisting conditions, Obama wants the public option so people can buy insurance that will cover them . And If everyone has that Insurance they are paying for it so everyone will be covered. Medical care is very expensive, Get sick or Injured and see how good your Insurance really is, Insurance companies are not in the buisness for helping people they are in it for getting rich.

If they do, like most of the other devevloped industrial countries, then it is not slavery; instead it is one of the ways that at least the majority in society agree to make their country a better place and thus provide funding towards it. Believe me, people in most of Europe are extremely happy to pay for others healthcare if neccessary; for what they give themselves they are returned back in their times of need.

@drich2418 Also such a single payer system; whether nationalised like the UK, or simply state subsidised private insurance, results in some of the best healthcare in the world, costs far less due to a much reduced beuracracy (i.e no need for advertising, or the wastel incentive for most hospitals to buy unnesceary hight tech equipment just to compete for 'customers') etc. Most people, especially those on middle and low incomes, are extremely proud of such healthcare systems and pity Americans.

Taking care of yourself doesn't mean that accidents can't happen. Some drunk might hit your car and you may get severe injuries that will require surgery, multiple overnights and physical therapy afterwards. How are you going to get that kind of $ so quickly. I have two friends who got hurt this way, minus a drunk driver plus breaks that suddenly stopped working {fortunately for them, they are both from wealthy families so they did not have much to worry about $wise, just getting better}.

I agree with you... I had to have my tonsils removed in November, after two trips to the emergency room with ridiculously swollen tonsils. Off the top of my head the total cost (if I had no insurance) was in the 10 thousands. Keep in mind I am a college student who is still on her dad's health insurance policy, so I did not have nearly as much to pay. But if I were someone with little to no health insurance I would have been fucked financially.

Like consolidating medical records, removing as much defensive medicine as possible, Tort reform, freeing up the markets for insurance accros state lines. Your forced to have car insurance. And if they can't deny you for a prexisting health problem, You could break your arm and on the way to the hospital, you could call and buy your insurance if you didn't have it, So how much money would be lost on a deal like that, That is why they want you to have it before you break your arm,, Just like car insurance, You don't get into a accident then call the insurance company and buy insurance before the cops get there and report it,,

The only car insurance you must have is liability insurance. That covers others if you damage their property with your car. You do not have to cover yourself. This is all done at the state level where it belongs. There is nothing in the Constitution that permits the Feds to force health care on the people of the states. Why doesn't Obama just force people to pay for their own medical care? What could be more fair than that?

Let see the problem with that is the Insurance companies are out to get rich, People can't get covered because of preexisting conditions, Obama wants the public option so people can buy insurance that will cover them . And If everyone has that Insurance they are paying for it so everyone will be covered. Medical care is very expensive, Get sick or Injured and see how good your Insurance really is, Insurance companies are not in the buisness for helping people they are in it for getting rich.

If the insurance companies are so bad why not get rid of them? Why does Obama want me to get an insurance policy? Instead of buying insurance why not keep all that money so you can pay the medical bills yourself? This would keep the costs down.

There´s nothing in the constitution that says you have to pay taxes either. Why doesnt Obama just allow us to pick and choose to pay that tax? The constitution is about HUMAN rights and not about capitalist rights, dude. People DO pay their medical care...they are bankrupted in the millions. The 300,000 who lost their jobs last monthy now are without medical coverage and sell off the shit they saved a life time just to afford medical care. You are next.

Are you serious? The Constitution does give the power to levy taxes to the Federal government. Those powers can only be used to fulfill the duties the Feds have been given. Health care is not something the states gave the power to the Feds to control. Please read the Constitution sometime.
