Erm, I think your wrong there mate. Grindcore started out in the late 80's (early Napalm Death, Repulsion, Terrorizer etc) whereas Black metal only came about in the early 90's. Im not trying to be a smart ass by the way, but i was into extreme music way before Black Metal came about.
I'm not trying to sound like a smart arse either, but if you want to be "technical" about it... Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory, and Hellhammer are all considered to be the first wave of Black Metal. Venom started in 1979 and actually coined the term "Black Metal" with their 1982 album by that name.
And I, too, have been listening to Extreme Metal since it's infancy. Starting with Thrash in the early 80's, and Death Metal in the mid/late 80's.

@timhx1138 I seriously suggest listening to any Nasum album in its entirety. Dont get me wrong I'm a big Cattle Decap fan and Impending doom I find more than bearable, but in terms of sheer brutality, those bands dont match up to Nasum. alot of nasum songs actually have a dual guttural/screech vocal pattern, so i strongly urge you to check out their other material

Erm, I think your wrong there mate. Grindcore started out in the late 80's (early Napalm Death, Repulsion, Terrorizer etc) whereas Black metal only came about in the early 90's. Im not trying to be a smart ass by the way, but i was into extreme music way before Black Metal came about.

I'm not trying to sound like a smart arse either, but if you want to be "technical" about it... Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory, and Hellhammer are all considered to be the first wave of Black Metal. Venom started in 1979 and actually coined the term "Black Metal" with their 1982 album by that name.
And I, too, have been listening to Extreme Metal since it's infancy. Starting with Thrash in the early 80's, and Death Metal in the mid/late 80's.

hmm depends on who you talk to: Venom, Celtic Frost, and especially Bathory laid the framework, but IMO Black metal as we know it didtn' come about until later. As far as coining the term "Black Metal" yeah Venom did, just as Steppenwolf coined "Heavy Metal" in the song Born to be Wild in 1968.. but heavy metal they were not, hell Iron Butterfly's first album was simply titled Heavy... which.. they were... fuck it... we obviously like the same music man.. cheers! Agreed! I'm actually not a fan of "early" Black Metal. I started getting into BM with bands like Emperor, Enslaved, old-Dimmu Borgir, old-Satyricon, etc. Bathory is really the only "first wave" Black Metal band that I can tolerate. And, yet, I'm still not a big fan of theirs. LOL!
I guess it really doesn't matter though. Because without alot of those old bands, we would haven't alot of the bands we have today. When it comes to BM.

Too often i see ppl on here talking about grindcore like its some new fad with no history, its almost as though some people dont know that Napalm, terrorizer, Assuck etc never even existed... and thats just wrong innit bro? Again, I agree. Though I'm no longer a fan of Napalm Death, I can't deny their influence (nor Terrorizer and Assück) as a grind band. I agree that it's wrong when people don't give bands their dues when it comes to their involvement and influence in the music scene.
