I'm struggling with vibrato. It's not that i cant do it necessarily, i just can't get ON it very fast, you know? Ive been doing a lot of BB/Albert stuff lately, and that really relies on you whipping that vibrato out almost immediately. I guess it just comes with time, right? Any exercises/tips/suggestions to make time move faster?:)
Ok, this is how advanced guitar needs to be taught imo. Not just telling which notes are part of a scale/box, but also how to use them... grand, just what I've been looking for!
Hey, thanks for the free education for guitarists out there and all. I would probably mention what notes are outside of the pentatonics (based on the daitonics of their parent modes) and probably what usages the altered tones have on the parts of the progs. Like what notes out of what chords create the altered tones and how and why to emulate them. Anyway, happy teaching and good job so far.
hey there. tanx a mill really helped my playing a lot.just wondering when jaming how do you know . when to play a maior scale or a blues scale.some rock songs a blues scale will work and sometimes it doesnt.hope thats not a stupit question. tanx again
hello, i just wished to thank you so much for these videos, they have helped me so much!! i am only 16 and i want to be the next John Mayer or B.B King!! thank you again, i have found that whilst i am playing these, my left hand fingers are getting really quite dark and mucky. i realise its the strings, but why has it got so unclean?
Strings are metal, and your fingers are sweaty which causes them to rust a bit. As you play, that rust, or oxidation wears off on your fingers. Once your strings turn dark, time for new strings :-)
@JuanAngeles326, I take your point, there certainly is a big difference. Being 18, I have to say that I'm thinking more B.B personally now, still think John Mayer is an amazing guitarist, but B.B's technique is just incomparably good.
Sorry for the confusion, if you watch the first and second lesson previews in this series, you'll see that I'm not teaching the pentatonic scales. These are shapes that are based around common licks. There is some overlap between them and scales, but they do not entirely line up.
@1bulldog998 Yes, you are correct. The traditional pentatonic is like you said... but, you can add the B on the B string and the G on the D string to get a more major kind of sound. I was also confused at first because he didn't show the most fundamental notes.
@1bulldog998 bb king and albert ( i prefer ) mostly use the highest note for bending so you bend a full step to c :D ithink they got the note out of the major blues .
I think this is a great lesson, thank you!!! I gave you five stars, but if I can give you some constructive critique... I know you aren't aware of it, but I found your "jimmy leg" throughout the whole vid to be rather distracting. :)
Also I was confused by your comment early in the vid... can you clarify, please? Isn't the BBKing box TWO frets up from the Albert King box (i.e., not three, like it says here)? I'm a bit confused at the demonstration of moving up three frets.

@gr8bluesgtr i really missed that you haven't taught that bb often uses the major scale over the 1.st chord ( tonic ) and then switches back to minor

nice lesson!
i hopeyou can mention what scale can each box can be used on
thanks
gpacariem 2 years ago
You can use this box system over any scale.
Just move the box position up or down the neck according to root scale note you are playing in.
That what makes this lesson even better than just showing things on one scale like A or E these are note patterns that work on all scales.
