This wasn't the first actually! The first was Face Cream, then Cornetto(Venice), then the Boddies Gold ad (Mel Sykes' first). This and the Runner were the last two - and, whilst memory isn't what it was (as far as I can recall) I believe the Sarah Parish one was the penultimate with the Runner last.

After that there was a bit of a gap before the agency moved on to the Graham the Cow campaign, which had its high points but wasn't as iconic (IMHO).

Actually this isn't Melanie Sykes - she was in some of the other Boddingtons adverts. This is actress Sarah Parish playing 'Vera' who is probably most famous in Britain for her roles in the TV series' Cutting it and Mistresses among many others.
