You want to get strong , build a Conan's Wheel on top of a mountain and disconnect from civilisation , only drink when it rains and eat tree barks ...
I Have been training for boxing and muay thai and I think it's time to incorporate sledge hammer training into my workouts but I have never done it before, can someone give me tips to start off message me plz
Not to be one of those posters who are rude for no reason, but your stance is awful amigo, you can really mess up your back with that kinda form, as is your upper movement to get the hammer head back over your shoulders. You should think about correcting this before posting it as a demonstration video.
WTF is this? I'm honestly sick of guys putting these videos up of them acting like they know what they're doing. That's terrible form, a terrible explanation, and the way he's standing is just asking for that hammer to swing back and hit him in the legs. If you want to learn how to do things improperly and risk injury, watch guys like this. Plus who the fuck uses a wood handled hammer for this stuff? Be smarter than this guy and get fiber glass. My god!
this is actually an old boxing technique thats been around for over a 100 years, of course they would chop wood instead but the form is the same. It trains hand eye coordination, strengthens and tones and the same time. Gets results in a way you cant really get with a machine or free weights. just proves that to get results you dont need fancy shakes or pricey gear.
If you're swinging righty your right foot should be in front of your left . Vice verse for a lefty swing.knees should be bent through out the whole swinging process .
I love how at 0:17 he says to pickup the hammer from the hammer point... Then immediately after, he does the opposite and just lets it bounce then pulls it back with his other hand for the rest of the video. Um.. yea.. Good job.
Dude, if your bored, I should get you to come over to the shop and work as a striker if you can precisely hit a quarter every hit. That would make forging large billets of steel go a lot faster. Good luck and don't through out your shoulder.
Look, this is typically a fighting work out. We do this is Team Quest for a reason. Weight lifting is great for hypertrophy, to make it to a higher weight class, or isolated strength conditioning, but to be a fighter, you have to do sport-focused training, which this is.
This is the same as kettlebells, and tire flips. It combines strength conditioning with muscle unity training, and endurance conditioning. Want to get in fighting shape? This is an exercise to add to your work out.
brilliant exercise. trains the body to work together (unify) vs weight lifting where you isolate muscles. We do this exercise in bagua and chinese wrestling. In response to the guys that "don't get it" (vectornyi and athenamarie) - keep practising what you guys do and leave the real training to the experts please...
What is the weight of the sledge hammer. In general is heavier better or lighter? or does the choice of weight depend on what goals you are trying to achieve (muscle gain, fat loose, conditioning, etc.)?
@revolutionfit definately a better and more useful exercise than sitting (or lieing) on a seat and pushing a weight. Too many people follow the body building routine these days (which is fine if you want to be a body builder - 99.9% don't). Hammer training will get you truly fit. You'll always get people that will knock it though - shame, they don't know what they are missing.
no one invented this, guys who have never lifted but have done manual labor for a living are strog from swinging hammers moving wheelbarrows and picking up heavy loads all day so some genius incorperated the obvious into a work out and sold the idea to dumb people
@athenamarie86 i think it came from chopping wood with an axe, and so there for they saw good results from it, and sooner or later they ran out of wood and decided to use a hammer and a tire lol
@Kenneth22790 but if your a MMA fighter, the stance should be the same IMO. Just to make it a more efficient fighter training, to train the way you fight.
Yeah, you should switch your stance as well. Right foot forward when swinging left side and vice versa for swinging right side. Otherwise you're not getting the same movement on each side.

As said above lighter hammer works better for this. It's power routine and you should be simulating a power punch, so speed is important

When you switch arms and not stance, you get a different effect for right/left side.
themax17 3 years ago
Yeah, you should switch your stance as well. Right foot forward when swinging left side and vice versa for swinging right side. Otherwise you're not getting the same movement on each side.
