You are right Assault is pretty underrated personally I really like it. I don't really mind the voice acting it's whatever. The landmaster does control like crap though. This game has the best arwing design so far! It would be a great idea if they remade!

On-foot segments make up 60% of the game. And that's only in terms of AMOUNT. If you go by PLAYTIME, they are an OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of the game's content.

I think the on-foot segments are just bland. In a series known for hectic arcade shooting action, Assault has you navigating maze-like areas with tank-like controls trying to use a horrible map system to locate all 5 of the thing so you can destroy them.

Not a bad review, but I think the strong part of this game is the multiplayer, and I was a bit disappointing that you did not cover that.

a big reason that people hate on star fox assault is that they make too many comparisons to the N64 version. I mean COME, ON! Of course its not gonna be better because alot of people suffer from nostalgia and then get really pissed off because they dont get the same game.

Starfox Assault is my favorite game too! But I disagree with your word on the story and voice acting, I thought the story and voices were great! I thought the story was very dark, and despite the weird echo to the character's voices, I thought they sounded like actual characters and not a saturday morning cartoon. I wish they would remake this game for Wii U so that I would finally play the multiplayer (if they make it Online compatible!)

The voice acting REALLY steers me away. Eveerything else, minus the HORRENDOUSLY drawn faces. Look at Peppy, WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIM? And Slippy is a guy? I'm sorry but I like the N64 graphics of faces and I also like their voices.

Maybe that's just me... I would MUCH prefer just spending an afternoon playing 64 than this.

I remember loving this game when I was a kid. This was one of my all-time Game Cube games, even though the voice acting kinda sucks, and the controls for the Land Master were bad. I enjoyed the ground levels the most, actually. At the time, I love 3PSs over FPSs. Great review!

u feel the sameway i do, i didnt like the voiceactors but i did love wolf's voiceactor, and if u heard them in brawl they gotten alot better......except peppy.....anyways i almost never find controls clunky because i always adjust to controls fairly quickly no matter how their setup but overall i loved this game...to be honest....this review made me want to play this game again and honestly.....it hard for me to choose a favorite starfox game salso wish ur review was longer, and talk about

I got this game a long time back but have still yet to play it. I loved Adventure's so i really should give it a go!

Looks like the graphics have got worse since Adventures though which is weird?

"Voice acting is campy at best" At least it's THERE, though. I'm biased because I was floored by how spot-on the actors portrayed the personalities of each character the first time I started it up. Gah, my friend is borrowing it atm, and now I really wanna play it! ><;;

Sidenote: I really don't like the "blurbububbllburlbubb" that is in 64 and the DS one whose name is escaping me right now. I want silent, pitch-oriented "bip" noises, or full VAs, but not "blurblubublublub." I'm picky. oh well.

Ah come on, Star Fox 64 was also really fun and campy and silly too. ;) But seriously, Assault looks pretty cool (never played any Star Fox games). If I ever see it on the cheap, I'll definetely give it a go.

Assault was kind of an okay game. Where I liked Adventure's neat exploration and platforming aspects, I didn't like them so much removed in Assault, instead replaced by dry ground missions accompanied by campy dialog and interspersed with actual Arwing combat. It seems like it would've been a better fit if the game incorporated far more sensible helpings of Arwing missions, and then just a few ground missions on the planets you had to go to. This one-to-one ratio worked, but felt kinda "eh".

Personally me favorite of the series as well. The multiplayer definitely won me over by far. The story was definitely pretty average but like I said, the multiplayer was freakin' fantastic. Had nights playing this w/ friends similar to my nights playing Goldeneye 64. Great review, Craig!
