I LOVE the tension in this scene. Even though they are allies, even though they are friends of a sort, when watching this conversation I can't help thinking they're treading the razor's edge and about to descend into a free-for-all deathmatch. It's frighteningly good acting and writing.
@MortimusKhan117 its not you who's... oh wait, my bad, wrong line... (awkward silence)... (Stabs Daniel multiple times)... umm... see ya next fall, daniel (throws him down elevator shaft)... mind if i help myself to some beans?
@MangaArtist2010 yes some of the scene was brutal like when rorcach murder a criminal take off a prisoners arm the most bloody part and nite owl and silkspectre have sex comedian tries to rape sally
I think this is my favourite part in the graphic novel. Rorschach is so funny. After shaking hands, Rorschach is still holding onto Dan's hand and Dan realizing this, politely has to pull back his hand lol. I think it was like the first time in a long time that Rorschach felt the warmth of human companionship.
@burymeindiaboli : Rorschach is quite small in the graphic novel. It's a trait designed to further symbolize that his capabilities result from sheer will.
During his capture and arrest scene (in the comic), the police comment on his fould odor and his shoe-lifts!
it would've been real interesting if they included a flashback or something of how rorscach and dan became friends, considering how they're so different
Rorschachs mask is explained in the novel. A rich woman asked Dr. Manhattan to make her a dress. So Dr. M made a black and white dress that would constantly shift around but never mix colors. but when the lady came to pick up her dress from the tailor shop, where at the time rorschach was working, she didnt like it so rorschach kept the dress and eventually, when he became a crime fighter, cut the dress up to form his mask
Would it kill them to explain it in the movie for us who never heard of the graphic novel beforehand? I consider that a failure on the part of the director. What if (for the sake of argument) someone's first time with Spiderman was watching the movie, and they never explain how he sticks to walls? That's where I was with Rorschach.
I totally understand man, even though i liked the film, I felt at times it went ahead of itself and didnt properly explain a lot of parts, like with rorschachs mask, or even changing them entirely, like how rorschach kills the guy who fed the girl to his dogs. I felt that the only way to fully enjoy the film was to have read the graphic novel first. You are obviously proof of it. Thats where I think the film truly suffers. and yes it is the directors fault. but other than that I liked the film.
Rorschach and Nite Owl were a great pair. Each one under-appreciating the other, needing that jolt of realization to see how much they need each other.
It was fitting that Nite Owl stays with Rorschach til the end.
When you think about it, Nite Owl and Rorschach are like Batman split into two people. Nite Owl has the nocturnal animal theme, the vehicle, and the gadgets, while Rorschach has the gritty voice and corporally punishes and interrogates criminals.
I definately agree about them both being like Batman.
I also think they are alot like Superman and Batman if they both lost their way.
Night Owl "Superman" being the By the Book perfect hero realizing it's all for nothing and becoming fat and bitter. Rorschach being Batman, the by any means necessary vigilante after truly losing his mind. lol.
I don't think Nite Owl II became bitter. However, I do think he became more cynacle of heroes. I mean, wouldn't you if the people you had been trying to save practically tried to slit your throat to try and get you to stop doing your job? It makes you really wonder if being a hero was worth it.
@JimmySteller Yeah, it's so heartbreaking that he's fucking Laurie while Rorschach dies in the book. I think both endings are good - but only because I like having my heart broken. @_@
I like that Night owl II is one of the only watchmen that is a true friend with Rorschach since the other watchmen see him as an asshole and no good jerk.
The movie was good enouigh for me, actually made me like the comic more, merchandise was good too, please don't say its bad simply because the infalliable Alan Moore said so.
Many fans of the Novel over criticised this movie, but i thought it was great. Actually, seeing this movie made me go out and buy the Novel, I'm excited for the DVD and can't wait to watch it again after reading the Book
Funny since in the graphic novel both Rorshach and Nite Owl were about the same height, give or take with a hat or head gear. Guess they thought Rorchach should appear small, more compact but he's not muscle-bound like Wolverine cause he improvises like at the prison catering.
Not true, Rorschach wore elevator shoes which raised his height in the graphic novel to roughly 6", when the police catch him in moloch's one of the officers even says "This runt wears elevator shoes" But for some reason they left it out of the film, and just kept him normal height right the way through.
Shadowwolf this isn't a movie you're supposed to leave with your adrenaline pumping, you're supposed to leave with your brain pumping. Now, that being said, I actually left and almost tripped cuz i was so lightheaded from the awesomeness of this movie XD
Wish Dan included the "Do you know how hard it is to be your friend?!" line like in the book
I thought that line had a lot of impact since Dan actually admits that he thinks of himself as Rorscach's friend despite everything. And I believe it was that line that really made Rorscach have an epiphany and finally apologize for once in his life.
When I saw the movie in theaters after reading the novel. I had to give it up to the creators for staying so true to the graphic novel than any other movie based on a book I've seen. Maybe even too close to the Novel, with some minor things changed, but it was a freaking awesome movie!
Hate to be one of those, but I wonder which character would win if they both dropped the gloves: Nite Owl II or Rorschach. Rorschach is definitely the more ruthless, but when it comes down to skill...
If it was a gadget fight then yes, but all out brawl Rorshach...hes just to damn dirty. If it was a fair fight Nite Owl might take it, but Rorshach had no problem cheating.
@ERoBB1 Rorshach the toughest human in the bunch. eating forzen beans and withstanding Manhetten's big blue balls in his face daily. Nite Owl is just... Impotant
@ERoBB1 yeah, but in a fist to fist fight with no weapons or gadgets. Rorschach is a very skill fighter and is very acrobatic. But because of his speed that means his hits are weaker. Nite Owl is slower but has more kick, not as fast as rorschach so that might lead to Rorschach's victory. Also Rorschash is relentless, Nite Owl on the other hand isnt, so when rorschach goes down he comes right back up untill he is dead, nite owl will get dropped a few times and probaby surrender
rorshach hands down maybe they were both equal back in the day but night owl has been rotting away all these years when he decided to give up his crime fighting days while rorshach kept honing his skills..to kill villains
@chimpiki have you even seen the movie?! Jerk, obviusly does Rorschach have skill !! If he can take down a police force with a spray-can and a lit.. i guess you say he got skill
@chimpiki In the prequel video game (which isn't that bad), Nite Owl wins. To be fair, Rorschach was trying to kill a villain who had stood down and surrendered, and Rorschach was also trying to kill Nite Owl, so Nite Owl kinda had right on his side there.
This movie was AWESOME! A guy was telling me after the movies while in the restroom saying after his friend saw the movie he wanted to burn the novel.
I would kill the guy if he did that, the movie was simply awesome. I love how even they changed a few minor things they still had it work out in the end.
Oh for all you retarded Kids out there this movie is not for Young'uns. if you can't handle a bit of gore, dangling tits or even Dr Manhatten's Flopping D$%* all throughout the movie, Wait till Dvd and then ya can have a cry and watch it. It definitely isn't a Spiderman story.
It looks like this exchange was moved to when Rorschach first comes to his house instead of right after Jupiter leaves so the motivation for what's really eating Daniel is lost. How can Zack be so thick not to get these simple emotive motions? Daniel isn't dying to insult Rorschach it's that he takes a lot of crap over the course of the story and when Jupiter leaves he needs to vent.
i know i'm a year late... but wtf are you talking about? The scene takes place exactly when you said it should've been. What indications were there that the scene was moved to when Rorshach first comes to Daniel's house? Can't actually see any, can you?
Most of the clips are really starting to play with me after multiple viewing... it's like hearing a remix of your favorite song that is actually good. Plus a few of them are disjointed because of violence edited out (if not it'd be crazy...but i think it's pretty obvious some online full scenes have weird edits). I get the emotion fully in this.
True. Compromise = just settling. I will never just settle. If we do, Hollywood thinks they can just put out anything and make money of the people. If people boycott, complain, etc believe it or not u could cause the industry to put more effort into things and get better quality of films such as The Dark Knight or the or very 1st Superman film.
So I read the novel.. One of the best books of all time.. and I read a lot.. Anyways/ everything ive seen of watchmen so far looks spot on compared to the book!!! That scene was exact! Im so excited, you have no idea!!!! Haha.. well this scene was amazing!
if you think about it, this is the only part in the novel where he shows just a lil emotion. he just trying to show daniel that he does care because daniel is literally the only friend that rorshach has. but in a way i kinda know wat u mean.
He shows emotion when he leaves his old apartment after taking his journal and space 'face'. He could have done and said a lot more to his former landlady but chose not too when he looked at her children.
Yeah I like it, but this scene is from the Owlship when it's under water not in Dan's basement. Scene shuffling is necessary when adapting a piece like this I guess.
Personally i think the acting's awkward but not bad...Dreiberg was awkward and Rorshach is monotone. I think this scene is similar to the book but it comes off as weird on screen.
Really? because I read the book and they seem to be portraying there characters quite well in this scene. These characters are by no means normal so some scenes are going to bring about akwardness.
Well yes chances are it will never live up to the the book but isnt that the case with every movie/book adaptation? And even if it does turn out bad then you cant deny people are now paying closer attention to the novel than ever before. You cant say its a mockery merely because its not living up to your conceptions of what the book is about. Thats just emararrasing and a little rude in my opinion.
Um i don't know how many films you've watched. But there have been plenty of good adaptations before. And even if they weren't, to say that movie adaptations never could be good is just a lack of faith clearly. But that doesn't apply to watchmen becuz Watchmen is unfilmable. The best chance is to turn it into a mini series on HBO or something. You can't take this too long of a story and turn it into a 2 & 1/2 hour film.
Yes they can. They did it with V for Vendetta, now, granted it didnt follow the graphic novel well at all, but, damn it , it was a good movie nonetheless. I can see why you would think that watchmen is unfilmable because of the amount of crap that is shoved into the book. But these days, with a little bit of tweaking to a few things, NOTHING IS UNFILMABLE AND EVERYTHING CAN BE MADE INTO SOMETHING 2 HOURS LONG.
V for Vendetta is arguable in terms of livin up to the novel or just being a good film. So don't try to use that as evidence. And don't refer to to the stuff in the book as crap. Thats stuff alone is better than anything Snyder will do. And no, not everything can be put into 2 1/2 hours everybody knows that. Snyder has already had interviews of all the amount of stuff he can't put in the movie. Lol! He's loses even more time with all this slo-motion. Its so stupid.
LIsten, dude, when I said "crap" I meant "stuff". I would never ever think of Watchmen as "crap". But yes, Watchmen The Movie will never compare to Watchmen The Book. But its really all about going and enjoying the movie. The book is epic and, hopefully, the movie can be just as enjoyable. And I dont spend my time dedicated to the computer looking up Snyder interviews, so Im sorry if I wasnt as updated as I am now. No matter what, on March 6, Im going to enjoy the movie.
Im not saying that movie adaptations of books are bad but that very few ever live up to the book jeeez you took that way to literal and yes! all of its messages cannot be done in a film but that is not what we are discussing.
I know what your saying. But i'm saying that the fact the few adaptations lives up to the orginal source doesn't excuse this film for not living up to the book.
Okay I think I could compromise to that but the movie hasnt even come out yet so maybe you should wait till it comes out and see what the critics think. That may sway your opinion if it turns out to be good, bad or okay, no?
I thought it was ok. There were some places where it dragged and I didnt leave the theater pumped with adrenaline or anything like that but I think it delivered overall.
I actually didn't like the squid in the ending so I liked the movie a bit more and of course they put more drama in it with the "Rorschach ending" with Nite Owl witnessing it...
And I don't know what it was with the squid though... Either I didn't fully understand it's purpose either than to make the world think it was an alien or idk... Still great comic and movie! And I loved the Bernie and Bernie cameos throughout the film. To bad they didn't play they're Black Freighter roles =P
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Blehh!!! Bad acting. Show some standard for God sake!! This is why Snyder never should've directed this thing! He's good with visuals and nothing else!!!!

To much Pride and sincerity in the line, "Daniel you are a good friend."

Haha.. well this scene was amazing!

eeehhh, rorshach just doesn't seem right....he's showing too much emotion here
HottiesInc 2 years ago
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING! wow that was weird!
1543V 2 years ago
if you think about it, this is the only part in the novel where he shows just a lil emotion. he just trying to show daniel that he does care because daniel is literally the only friend that rorshach has. but in a way i kinda know wat u mean.
ocp188 2 years ago
He shows emotion when he leaves his old apartment after taking his journal and space 'face'. He could have done and said a lot more to his former landlady but chose not too when he looked at her children.

Actually Jacki's (Rosarche) acting's is the best.

Please, anybody can make their voice sound gruff. The film is a joke.
traileruler 2 years ago
Yeah I like it, but this scene is from the Owlship when it's under water not in Dan's basement. Scene shuffling is necessary when adapting a piece like this I guess.
Travixius 2 years ago
@Travixius
It is not necessary. The problem is this never should've been made into a film.

Personally i think the acting's awkward but not bad...Dreiberg was awkward and Rorshach is monotone. I think this scene is similar to the book but it comes off as weird on screen.

I don't know if the movie will be good or not, but it's true that the acting is pretty bad in that particular scene.
deadpool901 2 years ago
Really? because I read the book and they seem to be portraying there characters quite well in this scene. These characters are by no means normal so some scenes are going to bring about akwardness.
ShaDowWolF1000 2 years ago
@ ShaDowWolF1000
No, they are making a mockery of this thing. Its an embarrasement.
traileruler 2 years ago
Well yes chances are it will never live up to the the book but isnt that the case with every movie/book adaptation? And even if it does turn out bad then you cant deny people are now paying closer attention to the novel than ever before. You cant say its a mockery merely because its not living up to your conceptions of what the book is about. Thats just emararrasing and a little rude in my opinion.
ShaDowWolF1000 2 years ago
@ ShaDowWolF1000
Um i don't know how many films you've watched. But there have been plenty of good adaptations before. And even if they weren't, to say that movie adaptations never could be good is just a lack of faith clearly. But that doesn't apply to watchmen becuz Watchmen is unfilmable. The best chance is to turn it into a mini series on HBO or something. You can't take this too long of a story and turn it into a 2 & 1/2 hour film.
traileruler 2 years ago
Yes they can. They did it with V for Vendetta, now, granted it didnt follow the graphic novel well at all, but, damn it , it was a good movie nonetheless. I can see why you would think that watchmen is unfilmable because of the amount of crap that is shoved into the book. But these days, with a little bit of tweaking to a few things, NOTHING IS UNFILMABLE AND EVERYTHING CAN BE MADE INTO SOMETHING 2 HOURS LONG.
RIBS215 2 years ago
@RIBS215
Its so stupid.
traileruler 2 years ago
@traileruler
RIBS215 2 years ago 2
Im not saying that movie adaptations of books are bad but that very few ever live up to the book jeeez you took that way to literal and yes! all of its messages cannot be done in a film but that is not what we are discussing.
ShaDowWolF1000 2 years ago
@ShaDowWolF1000
I know what your saying. But i'm saying that the fact the few adaptations lives up to the orginal source doesn't excuse this film for not living up to the book.
traileruler 2 years ago
Okay I think I could compromise to that but the movie hasnt even come out yet so maybe you should wait till it comes out and see what the critics think. That may sway your opinion if it turns out to be good, bad or okay, no?
ShaDowWolF1000 2 years ago
I never compromise. not even in the face of armageddon. never compromise.

So how did u like the movie?
Noneliver 2 years ago
I thought it was ok. There were some places where it dragged and I didnt leave the theater pumped with adrenaline or anything like that but I think it delivered overall.
ShaDowWolF1000 2 years ago
Oh...

Blehh!!! Bad acting. Show some standard for God sake!! This is why Snyder never should've directed this thing! He's good with visuals and nothing else!!!!
