Every time you folks use your tv remote you are using a device --by proxy--invented by the very talented Hedy. This device was related to the one that she invented that would scrambled radar---the Navy didn't use it in their wisdom--eventually Hedy did get some accolades but little money for her very important invention.
I already love Hedy Lamarr but the more I see her I love her even more. I can see why she was called the most beautiful woman on the screen, because she was!
@MrSuppersready ahem ahem mirror mirror on the wall, who was the most beautiful actress of them all....why hedy lamarr of course was beautiful but there was another who was more beautiful than she....her name was elizabeth taylor a natural beauty who had purple eyes!
i liked hedy too i just wondered why ppl said her looks faded, i mean, hell she wasn't even that old?? strange how looks seem to be everything in this society born with a beautiful face and lived in fear of losing it....sad!
Still beautiful but she should have left the palastic surgery alone.... Would hv been more beautiful to just age naturally.... She was'nt as bad as an actress as some critics made her out to be... I enjoy her acting and her movies.
"...and when she was in her 60s was caught shoplifting. She had been caught in her youth, as well, but it was sort of sexy then LOL."
Hedy was under severe mental treatment during her two shoplifting incidents (hence her statement, "Sometimes stores just let me take them"). Pretty sad fact.
@PeterAndres18 I can't beleive how some of these movie greats seem to die a sad and sometimes lonely death. I haven't been able to find out what she died of but, a newspaper article said she was found dead. Her neighbors said she would not come out of the house except to get the newspaper in the dark with a cane and a flashlight. How very sad if true. Thankfully we fans still have her on film and she will always be beautiful. I hope she knows that wherever she is.
@condor628 She could never accept the fact when her career was over and that everybody seemed to have dropped her. Just couldn't handle it and decided to cut herself off from almost everyone.
She was about as crazy as Vivien Leigh too. The older she got, the crazier she got, poor dear. She eventually had many lousy facial plastic surgeries, and when she was in her 60s was caught shoplifting. She had been caught in her youth, as well, but it was sort of sexy then LOL. Poor thing died alone in Florida, with pictures of her youthful self all over her apartment. Kind of a human tragedy, really, after being so brilliant and beautiful in her youth. The beautiful inventor. RIP, Hedy.
Too bad this clip didn't feature Jan Sterling as a professional rival of Hedy's. In her brief scenes, Sterling adds oomph to lines like, "I was the first child star to be chased around a desk," and, "Never let them have a career!"
She hardly moves any muscle's face and this leads her not to speak with the normal ease.Merle Oberon used to end up like this also. Her eyes especially show her age and her visage's minor flaws (nose and chin) are enhanced .
The movie was a complete mess.Powell as her daughter is simply absurd and Nader, although good looking enough ,hasn't the star potential to carry on with the role.Too bad ,especially because we all remember Hedy in film like Algiers.
I disagree, however it's all a matter of opinion. Looking at her, in this film, she's still an extremely beautiful woman even at mid age. Personally, I'll take her at that age rather than anything put out there in today's the film industry, young or old alike.
Soory Hedy fans, but she looks harsh and old...she's got that droopy bottom eye look that comes with age and plastic surgery. Yes she was stunning in her day, but talented? Miss Lamarr was what Blanche Hudson would call " A rotten stinking actress"
any idea how ridiculous you are calling this old looking. theres barely a line on her face. no shes not 22 anymore, and yes her eyes show a bit, but harsh and bad and unwatchable? she still looks better than almost every other woman in films.
and as for acting, well youve shown you shouldnt be talking about it
I want to start a Hedy Lamarr Fan Club, she is the most beautiful, brilliant and seductive woman ever to appear on screen. More beautiful than Garbo and a sex goddess . . . the most beautiful mouth on anyone ever . . .
Apologies for the delay in responding (to PeterAndres18). The videotape was from the USA in NTSC format. Can't recall from where precisely. Probably via Ebay.
I agree (noel888). I think she looked great and gave a very creditable performance. Jane Powell was a bit too old to be HL's daughter (HL would have had to have given birth aged about 15!). Unfortunately the book "Spread Spectrum-Rob Walters" continues to spread the error that her last film appearance was in "Instant Karma".
I believe she was in her 40's in this movie and still looked sensational...and her acting was terrific, especially in the one scene where she is confessing to Jane about her lost love.
Wow!

Well poor George Nader: in the literal FACE of such gigantic gorgeousness, he should have packed his homosexuality in and given her a whirl.
