When one closes their eyes, listening to this piece, one can see Isao plotting with his comrades to destroy the capitalist Japan, re-igniting the Samurai spirit, and dying heroically looking out over the sea with the rays of a new sun cracking the blackness of the night sky.
Subsequently, one can see Mishima's own private army and his preparations for death.
This is the power of Glass's work within this movie.
Sun and Steel by Mishima is such a powerful work of art-philosophy. There was nothing tragic at all about his life. He triumphed by living and dying on his own terms. He fully deserves his mythological status.
sorry for the delay I was busy with exams and getting ready for coop. I hope to put atleast 1 up a day now, this stuff is more tedious to do on a laptop then it was on my desktop :S, so I dont think ill ever be in the mood to do it all in one run.
The will to harmony overcoming all of the irregularity in the actual present situation. Isn't Good to be shared at all costs?

One image: RMS Titanic, steaming into that last sunset, into her martyrdom...
She must have known, she was willing to die...

Haunting, beautiful and intense, like watching a river flowing at night.

All apologies to the Sensei...
This music is Our Lady Titanic, in Her last day, last hours, of steaming into the sun before Her encounter with the ice-born Nemesis...
In size, Her wound was little bigger than His... Her martyrs barely less than His...
Santo Yukio, O-Kami Titanic...

@henripche Get the Criterion disc if you haven't already. It's extra features only deepen the mystery and mystique of who this man was.
DavidFullam 1 year ago
@DavidFullam Yes I suppose you're right. It's just that Criterion is blooody expensive.
