Renee sings very nicely, but her choice of gowns is all wrong. Why can't she wear something that isn't cut so poorly? A lot of her gowns are off the shoulder and have an
Don't worry his wife is even more spectacular than all the sopranos put together. I once sat next to them at Covent Garden. He is very modest and coy too. When I congratulated him on his performance of di Luna which I had seen a few months earlier he actually blushed. She looked on feeling reallly pleased. Thery were both very nice.
Possibly a future part for Fleming? It seems to suit her perfectly...her voice is beautifully produced here...hopefully we'll hear her in Trovatore before her career is over!
Perhaps Herr Kaufmann as Manrico? The lucky lady who sings Leonora would be in heaven. Besides, what kind of stupid woman would have turned down di Luna?
Somehow much as I admire and adore Renee this dress is less than flattering and with Hvorostovsky appearing so sexy it is should have been a more flattering gown, IMHO
from what i saw in this video i think renee has what it takes to sing leonora!...she just needs grooming and a more careful look into the role but vocally she could make one astounding leonora!!...i know she was looking into it a few years back !!
That dress is a wardrobe malfunction begging to happen! Only these Superstars could get away with such an over-the-top performance of this melodramatic scene. I love it!!!
Is it me? She's all wrong for this- it's more like watching a drag queen miming!!~ if they had used Price's voice, or Milanov- any "dramatic soprano". Or- at least if her left tit popped out at the ending- instead of that shreik!
The singers that you mentioned are retired and had fabulous careers in which from time to time sang--good or bad--things that were inappropriate for their voices in order to appease a public that wanted to hear them. In Price's case(mind you Price is one of my favorite singers), the Prima donna albums which about 40% didn't fit her voice. Don't let me start with Ms. Zinka yikes. Fleming is most definitely not singing Leonora, she's simply singing a duet with her colleague on a recital tour.
Renee is perfect as Leonora in this scene and her Maria Boccanegra is as great as it was 14 years ago. She's still in her vocal prime, at 51. She should definately take on the whole role, with no one other than Dmitri as her Conte di Luna.
Fleming was perhaps unjustly criticized for her "Tacea la notte placida... Di tale amor," sung at the Volpe Gala some years ago. The tempo was too slow, she fumbled the words, and seemed absorbed in her own voice. This, however, is another story. She is totally involved in the personagio, in the moment, and uses her glorious voice to full effect. Her "Mavrai, ma fredda esanime spoglia!" has the intensity reminiscenet of Ponselle and Callas. She is simply marvelous. Brava!
She's excellent in this, but he is the sexiest baritone alive, vocally and physically! What a STUD! Hvorostovsky, deeper, bigger, better than ever before! Pray for me.
That was just SPLENDID! I know that Verdi is very good to Fleming (Desdemona) but this sounds to be perfect for her...just good old flat out old fashioned opera singing! Hope she takes the role on! (Dmitri ain't so bad, either!)

What?! Her voice type is perfect for his role! And she most definately does NOT have a small voice! That is just ridiculous...

Fleming is awful - it is not for her - voice too small for Il Trovatore.
Not very good.
