Hi, Andrew, I looked on your website after watching this video for the bass handouts you were talking about and I can't seem to find them. I look forward to more bass video's. this was helpful but it would also help me if you would show all these patterns up close and slow them down a little bit. I have a hard time trying to figure out what you are playing at a fast pace. thanks again..
I'm maily a bass player, so I'm interested to see how u cover my topic ;)
What effects were on that bass? Wherever you played past the 12th on G you had some nice echo kick in -- how did you get this?
Also, it's really interesting to see how you play the bass. I have a friend who's a master of keyboard, but also dables in bass + gutiar, and he uses the same "guitar fingerpicking" style as you. I might practice that in adition to the standard. Does it require lighter strings?
further to this, I should say that I find it amusing that people need these videos: On a 4 string it's the same as a guitar really. I suppose that guitarists don't practice chord approach and linear sequences as much as bassists (unless they're practicising wild guitar solos ;)). I just bought a gutiar: It's much harder to go from a 4 (or worse, 5) string bass to a 6 string guitar. That major 3rd B string really fucks with my mind. I'm thinking of tuning to EADGCF. Bad idea at this stage?
The effects used are from a Zoom pedal & include chorus, delay, reverb. My bass fingerpicking is a mish-mash of taking my classical guitar training and doing my best at "adapting" it to the bass. No lighter strings required. The main request for this video had to do with mapping the fretboard and learning lines around arpeggios. The 4-string bass is quite a different landscape to most guitarists... hopefully this short series will help end "roots only" bass lines!
A new bass video will be posted on YouTube Friday Oct. 30, 2009.
This time around, we've got a guest instructor - bassist "Steve Silver," (he has studied with both Victor Wooten & Stu Hamm), to come by the studio and go through a number of right-hand concepts!
Thanks for the vid. I think the most useful part of this video series is that it helps the average guitar player to be cometent at the bass, so if such a situation arise, the guitarist can have some fun on the bass. It can also help expand the ideas of the guitarist after playing some bass.
Andrew, are you a super hero? Seriously though....... you must go out at night and solve crimes or something. You are the greatest human being ever!!! Damn your good at everything you do........ im seriously jelious and disappointed in myself all at once, i've got some practise to do!!! THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION !
You are very welcome... And, rest assured you were one of many who have been dying (bugging me) for bass information. Glad to be able to help all of the guitar players out who wanted some of this info!
It was good! Very bass-ic

I wish I knew how to write better bass lines for my material. I end up just sticking with root notes, but that gets kind of boring.

One question though:
Will you go into right hand technique?

Reply to twinguitarproduction,
Yes, certainly both hands for technique are going to be covered in this series.
