  • This is not one of the last inservice UH-1's as the Marines did not get rid of their UH-1N two blades until March of 2011 and there are still reserve units and SnR units that still activly use them.

  • random question, but what is the crew member looking at when he's at the back of the Huey? i've always wondered what it was.

  • @crucialdudechris they check under the aircraft and in the engine compartments for any fuel or oil that is leaking beyond normal limits and check the mounts to make sure that they don't move to much and no air is leaking from the engine. They then make sure all the cowling are latched so they don't fly off in flight and pin back the doors.

  • love the sound of an inbound huey awsome!

  • Best fucking chopper out there...now get to it

  • Vietnam :d

  • A salute to stead fast soldier

  • bestimmt der coolste heli der welt :))))

  • my fiance and i live just shy of the Ravenna arsenal here in Ohio. we have DC-130's and C-17's flyin in and out of their airstrip every week with troops for trainin purposes. every once in a while, a few of them UH-1's will come flyin over next to a few UH-12's & UH-17's with the medivac cross on them. sometimes they'll have a set of life flights with them as well. i can usually tell which one's are the UH-1's. they have a very distinct THUMP THUMP THUMP noise as the blades cut through the air.

  • Now, for those of us who weren't there in Veitnam, imagine having to go through all of that, with about, oh, lets say, a measley thousand AK47's shooting at you, trying to kill you, guys screaming in pain everywhere, and you have only enough time to load just a few guys into the chopper. Plus, it's insanely humid, insanely hot, and there's a bunch more hueys trying to land where you are. (and all of the noise from two dozen more hueys)

man am I glad I'm 18, and not from then.

  • @CPD0123a Hell Yeah, i was just thinking about that and if i woulda gone or not, given they dont have the medications back then that they do now. also given that im crazy as fuck when im not medicated..( the good kind)

  • the Bell Huey is my favorite helicopter, I love the sound it makes at 4.30!

  • i love the sound of a huey just taking off or in flying in the distants

  • So cool \m/(--.)\m/

  • That's one sound that no matter how many times I hear it, will never leave me.

The sound of that Huey single engine incoming somewhere in the distance.

  • This is how long videogame choppers should take to get off the ground in videogames! Then those freakin kids would have a little more respect for the real things.

  • I am an Army Flight Medic and I wish I served on a Huey.

  • Background music should be outlawed in warbird videos, this is a great video because there is none. Mr.Ziodeus asked about the cargo doors being open. That is the Hueys air conditioning and the view is awesome when you ride the Huey with them open. Yeah, it does get chilly above 3000 ft.

  • Why do I always get shivers at 2:30?

  • I love this sound

  • enemy huey approaching

  • Note the slight change in the sound at 3:30 immediately before the chopper lifts off (becuase collective pitch is increased?)

I wonder why the technician (or whoever) had to leave both cabin doors open for the flight.

  • i love this aircraft.

  • Very good, looks like one of the old birds from my Nat'l Guard Unit, you don't happen to know the Tail # by chance?

  • @RGinty Oh, I thought military tail #s were classified, but I might be wrong. Sad to see the end of such an iconic bird though.

  • Oh my godnes!... 4:22

  • One of the last hueys in service? What the hell? No! The UH-1 is STILL in service. It's up to the UH-1Y.

  • why does the running light on the aft of the engine blink differently. im guessing they are cycling the different settings for test or procedure.. but what does it mean?

  • @carpetmonk It's an anti-collision strobe light. It's supposed to flash to get other pilots' attention.

  • @nocalsteve what i meant, was the anti-collision light has a different blinking pattern and wondered if different patterns have different meanings. unless you mean, the random blinking itself is to gain attention from other pilots. it just seems like as the craft progressed through the checklist the strobe changed.

  • thumpa thumpa thumpa thumpa thumpa

  • Those of us who remember the sounds of start up till the collective is moved to hear the "tweek in the blades," then the sound only the Huey made in and outbound we will take with us to our graves! It meant "there goes our easy way out" and hearing it inbound out in the distance, "Just make it here and get us the hell out of here!" Thanks for not putting this to music. The sounds from start up till it made the last pass was enough to bring memories!

  • whats?????????????????? Turbine ?

  • slapping air produces lift as demonstrated by this beauty.

excuse me while I go slap some air..

  • good job,,

  • Takes me back to Nam.......Birmingnam!

  • @kingspunkbubble Hahahahaha! love it!

  • ha ha Lycomming T53 turboshaft, cool

  • To those men who fought in the iadrang valley, your Legacy is not forgotten.

  • Early 212s configured with an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) instrument package were required to have a large and very obvious fin attached to the roof of the aircraft, above and slightly behind the cockpit. This fin was initially determined necessary to alter the turning performance of the aircraft during complex instrument flight maneuvers, but now not required due to revised stipulations of the type certificate. Many aircraft still fly with the modification.

  • @chris4071000 Idiot It is a Wire strike protection system and now because it is IFR rated

  • @sparkyjr01 And not because it is IFR rated. They got added on in 1974 when we started teaching NOE flying.

  • Based on the stretched fuselage Bell 205, the Bell 212 was originally developed for the Canadian Forces as the CUH-1N and later redesignated as the CH-135. The Canadian Forces took delivery of 50 starting in May, 1971. At the same time the United States military services ordered 294 Bell 212s under the designation UH-1N.

  • The Bell 212 Twin Huey (also known as the Twin Two-Twelve) is a two-bladed, twin-engined, medium helicopter that first flew in 1968. Originally manufactured by Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth, Texas, production was moved to Mirabel, Quebec, Canada in 1988, along with all Bell commercial helicopter production after that plant opened in 1986.[1][2]

  • 5 people don't care if they die in a combat zone.

  • This is my Favorite Helicopter ever, My second favorite is the Bell Huey UH-1N (Twin Huey) and Great video thank's for putting it up.!

  • its nice and all but it was easily taken down by small arms fire, I don't think I would want to go aboard in a war

  • 4 people are Vietcong. :D

  • I want one...

  • WOW ! ! what a wonderfull sound of the huey ! ! 2:29 - 3:35

  • someone got a 9 killstreak

  • This one looks like AB-205, italian model. Not an UH-1H? H and 205 models have slight differences. Like 3 windowed fuselage, (an extra thin window), a few degrees nose-up attitude in hover and, a fuel boost pump working by compressed air from engine.(P3 air)

  • This would probably be a UH-1V. I crewed 16392, 498th DustOff.

  • There never was a UH-1J, the AH-1J was the first twin-engined Cobra. The Bell 212 is the UH-1N in US military service. It's being replaced in USMC by the UH-1Y now. There are a lot of differences in the 212 and H-1N. Only the airframe and engines are identical. And the only armor in a Huey is the ceramic in the pilot's seat. The crew and pax have cloth seats. Huey Crew Chief 1977-1987.

  • that classic sound

  • Thank you for NOT adding background music! ;-)

  • @FsTheo Fucking right mate..

  • @FsTheo Yes background music is gay and a killer to real sounds.

  • RIO DE JANEIRO POLICE

  • UH-1 is a designation for a military helicopter. There is no difference between a UH-1J and a Bell 212 other then the fact that the Bell 212 is for civilian use and has nicer interior then the military version. Also the UH models are more rugged then the civilian version, to put it in a better perspective the difference between a ford police interceptor and a civilian crown vic. UH-1B (Bell 204) UH-1H (Bell 205) UH-1J (Bell 212)

  • @ag5ak Armor plated seats make me feel at ease.

  • Throughout the whole video, I got a boner...... The sound did it

  • One of these flew over the holiday compex in the dominican republic....i was only young but it was unmistakeable....it was a huey....sounds ACE...

  • I finally found the Call of Duty Black Ops Chopper Gunner in real life!. Notice in black ops how when ever a chopper gunner is called, the voice notifier say 'huey in bound'

  • That thump thump thump means the Cav is enroute.

  • the huey is such a badass bird

  • i aint the best helicopter driver but for your question the propulsion system consists of a gas turbine engine main driveshaft transmission and mast main rotor and the tail rotor with its driveshafts and gearboxes the engine drives the transmission through the short mian driveshaft rotating the mast and mast and main rotor power is aso taken off from the transmission to drive the tail rotor like i said i aint the best but there can be other ways the tail rotor can be drivin

  • Just like fuckin' Saigon ain't it, Slick.

I was in junior high, dickhead.

  • Nothing is as classy looking as an old Huey. Nothing can compare to the sound of one either.

  • I cried. Took me right back to '71!

  • Could anyone who really knows explain to me how the propellers move?

All I wonder is if it has a kind of transmission, well not transmission because it's direct with no shifting, but what connects the engine to the propeller. I guess it's more like a clutch or a belt as in CVT transmissions. What allows the engine to run and slowly connect to the propeller?

  • @nandiito There is a transmission that connects the engine to the rotor systems. Neither the top rotor or tail rotor are direct drive, the engine spins somewhere in the 20,000 rpm range, while the rotors spin in the 200-300 rpm range. The difference is accomplished via a gear reduction, similar to the first gear in your car; it allows the engine to turn fast but the wheels turn slow. Obviously this is on a greater reduction scale than your car, but it illustrates the point well.

  • @Linusgump Nice explanation, Thank you!

  • do helicopters also use JP5 fuel?

  • The sound of vietnam

  • Washington State's Dept. of Natural Resources still flies Vietnam era Hueys and Huey Cobras. They're used for fire fighting. Do a Google search and you can see photos of their aircraft.

  • my fav chopper

  • The real hero of Vietnam!

  • wow does it really fly with that low rpm?

  • Do I hear Wagner in the background?

  • sounds excellent.

  • when they say "git to da choppa!" . This is the choppa they be gettin' to

  • That sound takes me back.

  • Thanks you, Videos very nice,

  • Ya know.. Its so taken for granted these days that we've made machines that can FLY.. but it really is an amazing thing to see..

  • Good Good night you sweet bird. Your time on the line has come to and end but you memory and sound will live on forever in the clouds

  • エンジン始動時のタービンの甲高い音。二枚ローターが生み出すボッボッって音がたまらなくイイです

  • @McHoyal settle down there

  • @bilboardguy The Marines have an upgraded one they use for command and control but it is a way different machine.

  • @tmutazz cool does it still have the same bodyshape cause that would be realy cool

  • Dust off doesn't mean take off, it means to pick up the killed or wounded. This will hopefully help you stupid self in the future.

  • Thats Great! Thanks Don, see you tomorrow.

  • Stephen King refers to this helicopters in the 'Nam sequence of his book "HEARTS IN ATLANTIS",a brilliant novel!

  • @bilboardguy marines still use the huey but have not used the single engine one (like the one in the video) for a while now. I saw a single engine one roll through our local airport about 3 years ago in service with the national guard though.

  • Beautiful.

  • @bilboardguy too good of a bird to be put down all at once. There are newer versions of Uh1. the older models probably so.

  • medical corps(E) ,... CORPS for sure^^

  • there are still some Hueys in service in Germany - but not for military reasons but for rescue service, such as SAR, LUFTRETTUNG and even the medical corpse of the german BUNDESWEHR,...

unfortunately they, too are getting replaced by the so called EUROCOPTER!

    ch33rs, J4NN3K

  • if you here the sound of this bird, its feeling is unexplainable because you fell the freedom of the sound, feels also that you are safe

  • @bilboardguy I am relatively sure the Army phased out all "Vietnam" era helicopters to include this one, an "H" Model in November 2009

  • what is da differen between Bell 212 and UH-1 ???

  • @boeing747sp86 a bell 212 has 2 engines

  • @gunfightergrafx And a pointy nose.

  • @gunfightergrafx wait wait i was doing research but which one is actually better?!! Maximum speed, capacity rate of climb almost the same!!! i figured the one with the 2 egines is better but idk help!!

  • @boeing747sp86 Also, it's a very subtle difference, but the tail rotor is on the other side of the ship in a UH-1

  • @boeing747sp86 and a UH1 doesn't.

  • always a huey fan. when i hear the huey it takes me back in time some 43 years ago ... there were bad memories..the scars untreated. time heals no wounds they say ...but that huey leaves me smiling...thank you

  • Still the best looking bird in the air

  • I can re-live everything the crew chief is doing from checking the engine for fire to pinning the doors open...and of course being the eyes for the pilots to the sides and rear of the aircraft. I had the awesome opportunity to do just this! Michigan Army National Guard.

  • better than sex !!

  • @HansensUniverse almost better not doing something right troop ? lol

  • The roflchopter goes swa swa swa swa swa swa swa

  • the marine ant got hueys they got bell 212

  • This is the icon the the Nam war right here. Love that chopper!

  • Nothing like seeing an old love still at it. I loved every moment spent in one of these.....If I could buy one I would go and learn how to fly....rather than being the grunt passenger...

  • are u retarded the Marine Corps just got a ton of new hueys

  • @jiro707 I did not know the Marine Corps got H models that were in Vietnam. What could I have been thinking

  • @gunfightergrafx they have N models, and still do

  • @gunfightergrafx I love how jiro707 became the retard in about 10 seconds

I am going to start flying a UH-1 for a sheriff department

  • @gunfightergrafx I think they got UH-1Ys or something. A twin engine model.

  • @jiro707 the corp got the UH-1N "Twin Huey"

  • @jiro707 The chopper the Marines recently recieved is the UH-1Y Venom, but is also known as the Super Huey. Not exactly the same as a UH-1, it has a bigger payload and more range.

  • @jiro707 yh and your retarded for not properly reading the description

  • @jiro707 they're called UH-1Y venom. nothing like this.

  • Just Beautiful Sound, I like it

  • that is just so cool.

  • Great vid. I've always loved the sound that the Hueys make when starting up and taking off.

  • Comment removed

  • that distinctive sound a Huey makes-it's like beautiful music

  • I love Bell Huey

  • Thank you. Great show!

  • In my Opinion the Huey is next to the BK-117 the best Helicopter. The sound of the turbines... GREAT!!!

  • 4:20 - 4:40 is the best sound of Helicopter ever!!!!

  • @rowinglove4ever this beats everything fuck Ferraris, am glad the Norwegian army use the Huey, the sound is just amazing, if i whas the enemy i whuold shit in my pants

  • @rowinglove4ever because its either the last sound you hear or a sure sign of rescue

  • hey.. these are modern german army helicopters!! until we get the NH-90 we´ll all be dead! lol

  • hi all this helicopter sound like me, when I take off like that time and also when they are in Joll

  • All time favorite!! Thank you.

  • Epic...

  • Epic rotors.

  • This is the first aircraft I ever flew in. I was just a 17 year old child in a green uniform in 1985 but the split second the skids left the ground I was hooked on flying forever. Still after all of the things I have flown in since then the UH 1 will always be my favorite.

  • "CLEAR!!!"

    *then looks around...

  • @myrandomspaces

The Huey was a static display and there were about 100 people behind a barricade, he just looked around to make sure no one moved forward.

  • @gunfightergrafx oh ok kuu. it just looked strange lol

  • @myrandomspaces

I noticed that too, that's too funny :)

  • @myrandomspaces he whas clear for engine start, and then he look around to make sure the heli whas ready to fly and everything is ok for flight

  • Why did we get rid of these thing for Eurocopters again? They're so reliable and inexpensive to operate and maintain. I say we should've upgraded these birds and kept them.

  • im so lucky, one time one flew right over my house, then i saw another one fly in formation with an EC-130, which i later saw at EAA airventure last year, and ive seen three fly in formation. those things are so loud and sound so nice lol

  • @105Raptor You lucky bastard :-))

  • @jetscan2nl, thats not lucky. i have seen the blue angels and an F-22 for 2 days in a row, and i get to see them tomorrow and sunday =). milwaukee lakefront airshow ftw lol

  • can one buy a Huey?

  • I never get tired of that sound.

  • I like it I love Huey :)

  • one badass helicopter

  • i love the huey, uh-1D, uh-1 N ext.

  • I am mexmorized by these birds. Ocassionally I will hear one fly overhead and I stop whatever I am doing and just stare at it. I would love to be able to ride in one. BTW, thanks for your service pam

    Sheila

  • hehe

  • i love the blop sound

  • I've never actually seen one fly, but there was an old rusty one on a trailer that I saw go through the drive-thru at Arbys

  • Is this the UH-1H model or is it the B model?

  • one of the best huey clips ive seen here, becorse of the different sounds..thanks for posting !!

  • I flew these in the Gulf War, and with the 507th MedEvac out of Fort Hood. I sure miss them, but the Black Hawk was going to take over the DUSTOFF mission eventually. Only one UH1-H ever let me down. Great birds for MedEvac.

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing.

  • That was a nice little flyby at the end.

  • love the sound of the exciter box clicking in the beginning

  • I grew up with this machine and my father flew them all my live till about 4yrs ago when he retired from the military. Spend alot of time in them dreaming when i was a kid.

  • Great video

  • Why oh why why why did Bell ever stop making these awesome machines?

  • Not without your wounded

  • BEAUTIFUL vid!!! AWESOME sound!!! Reminds me of the great movie Predator. You can tell that they used REAL sound from the Huey in it, right down to when the choppers (Hueys)that dropped them off flew away, while the cameras were on the actors!!! What an awesome bird.

A power house. I LOVE choppers! My favs are the Bell 222, Jetranger, and Huey. Thanks for the vid.

  • Could someone please lend me a paper towel?

  • Hueys just rock!!!! Those things saved so many lives....ended a few too... : ))

  • Many service personnel owe their lives to this machine.

It has been said that when the last UH-60 "Yard Dart" crashes and burns. It will be a Huey that goes out to bring the downed crew back.

  • love the song when it flies by

  • Quite an awesome bird. There are quite a number of military personnel that owe their lives to this helicopter. It was always a relief to hear the sound of one of these coming for you.

  • My thoughts exacly. That noise could bring relief or terror, depending who your fighting for :P

  • 4:20

Love the sound of the Huey! :D

One of the most successful helicopters through the history, if not the most successful! =)

  • @FrodeFlodhest i can listen to it over and over and over again

  • I love the sound of a Huey startup and remember flying in one a very long time ago.. I wonder if these helicopter will be babied and cared for like vintage WW Two aircraft!
