Thanks for posting this man, well done! I've got a Pyle 9" that I'm gonna install in a Kia Borrego and this answers some of the questions that were slowing me down. Would love to see what the audio video out ended up looking like. Did you just run it out under the seat? Also would love to see how you did the link into the fuse box aux.
@dhrostjr I ran all the wires from the unit down the passenger side pilaster as shown in the video. Once I got down to the floor level I ran the black and all RCA input wires under the front passenger seat and came out from under the carpet. I terminated them there so that anytime I have a media item with output I can connect it. There was also an RCA out from my overhead unit that terminates there as well and I am able to connect another LCD screen for the front passenger anytime.
@dhrostjr I ran the positive wire (red) to the fuse box by routing along door trim at floor and then behind carpet along the cars firewall under the dash and across to the fuse box at the drivers side. You could also go direct to the battery. I also made sure there was an inline fuse at the point of connection to the fuse panel. basically I used a multimeter to locate a fuse that was only hot while vehicle was "on" and connecter the wire to the correct side of the fuse and wedged it into box
@dhrostjr I also utilized an aftermarket audio in for my radio that you can get at Bestbuy that provides you with an RCA audi input via the car antenna. I ran RCA from my RCA out under the passenger seat to this new RCA in on my radio so now I have full surround sound from my DVD player through the car speaker system. You may not need this adapter if you already have an aftermarket radio with RCA inputs. I would not recommend the Over the Air kind....
Great video, I want to install an overhead dvd in my 2001 suburban, but I have in the center not only a dome light but some a/c controls, did you have that too? I am thinking about removing, I am not a fan of those headrest dvds, did you remove your a/c control ???
@rafaelaldente Fortunately I did not have the A/C controls overhead. I did have a dome light which is actually the hole through the headliner that allowed me to mount this unit. I also reused the wires to the light and connected them to the new dvd unit lights so they operated the same way such as when the door opens the lights come on (wiring instructions came with my unit). Not sure what you can do about the A/C controls....perhaps you could extend the wiring and relocate it to the back
AFTER WATCHING YOUR VIDEO I WAS ABLE TO INSTALLED ONE ON MY VAN. YES NICELY SNUGGED AND I WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL ON A LONG TRIP WITH A LOT OF PIECE OF MIND AND YES WITH 3 TODDLER IN THE BACK SEAT QUIETLY ENJOYING THE NEW MONITOR THAT I'VE JUST INSTALLED. YEA........
FOLLOW UP - The weight of the DVD unit has slightly caused the ceiling to sag (not really noticeable). If I was to do it again I would find a way to reinforce the auto manufacturer steel cross member that runs left to right across the ceiling. If you are installing a unit smaller or if you are installing in a vehicle without a sunroof you probably wont have any issue.
Thanks for the positive responses....video was shot with my cell phone :)
P.S. This was a 13" TView overhead unit purchased off EBAY which came complete with headsets, game controls and DVD games for under $230 including shipping
Nice video man. Thank you for actually talking and not playing some crappy song over the video. "Let the bodies hit the flow, Let the bodies hit the flow." lol.
