  • Do you have the Benedictus?

  • this video up-loader should have blocked all comments!!!!!!

  • so universal......................beautiful!

  • Shut up everybody and just listen.

This is music and should be discussed as such. Not as a "theme". Keep all bullshit away from music, motherfuckers.

  • @leptismagna Another silly point which does not remotely follow from my previous post. If you are a rationalist, please demonstrate this by making rational statements, not non sequiturs.

  • @UND1989 LOL, i meant the goat thing as a pagan reference, i wasn't even thinking about the OT or judeo-christian scripture. sounds like you say a lot the words "that was the old testament, but jesus came and kissed it all better".

But thanks for demonstrating that there's really no fundamental difference between pagan rituals and whatever abra-cadabra religion you are now.

You must have absolutely no idea how music works. kinda like how some think the gods makes the tide go up and down maybe.

  • this music is beautiful, but there is nothing miraculous about it. mozart was not known for being any more religious than the average wolfgang at the time.

the music would be just as beautiful if he had used words from the quran, or bhagavat gita, or if he wrote his own lyrics.

people who think beauty is a miracle have little to zero imagination. no wonder no religious person was ever seriously talented or useful for anything except destruction.

  • @Lewkadook

"Psh. Catholics can all suck my taint. You'll burn with the rest of the infidels who don't worship at the altar of the Flying Spaghetti Monster."

What a tedious comment. As someone who is a non-believer you have just demonstrated once again why I steer clear of the Dawkins tendency. These sites (sublime music that happens to have a religious context) are littered with similar smug and workmanlike rants. If you're so rational why can't you hold an adult conversation?

  • @shutoman7 and yet you still believe child molesting priests are above atheists who mock the catholic church...

Divino genio.

  • Psh. Catholics can all suck my taint. You'll burn with the rest of the infidels who don't worship at the altar of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

  • Putain c'est splendide

  • "When the angels sing for god the Sing Bach, but when they sing for themselves they Sing Mozart....and even God himself is Mesmerized"

  • It`s beauty music

  • It`s beautifully

  • the very voice of god, as we can all hear, presented by the mozart the only PURE talent

  • if the heart ever knew pain, suffering and joy..it was Mozart..listen people, put a side everything for a moment and equate it to your trials...not the Gods before them...

  • this is the best melody ever written!

  • strange, i've heard his requiem dozens of times, and this is just as powerful in my opinion, yet it's the first time i hear this. MOZART FOREVER

  • This is utterly out of this stupid world. Stupid because a video called "jizz in my pants" has 13 million views and this video has only 75 thousand.

  • @Glosuraban do not dispare, not EVERYBODY is fucked up. a lot of people who listen to this music have it on cd or go to live performances. and indeed we are a minority, but know that it is us who know what music stands for, and it stands for the feelings you get when listening to this!

  • Mozart's genius would have come out whether he was catholic or believed in God or not. Every believers would be geniuses somehow if it were otherwise, but most are in fact not.

God doesn't exist and if he does, its obvious that he couldn't find his way out of a paper bag.

So again, you superstitious "god" people who believe humans aren't good enough to produce beauty like this on their own, keep your nonsense to yourself. Your gods are of little to no use for anything.

  • @leptismagna10 couldn't agree more, if God exists he is the Devil, yet understand the feeling one must have hearing these texts and actually believing them...

  • @plagueofangels666 good call, and while the text itself may be moving, they are drawn from ancient myths and were composed by humans as much as this music was. Beauty, truth and love are human emotions / constructs and they have nothing to do with whatever is responsible for this universe.

  • @leptismagna10 Ah yes, my thoughts exactly! Whatever we have witnessed or experienced as divine is only so because we made divinity up. Why believe in one 'true' god, when there have been so many gods before him? it doesn't make any sence yet people believe it because of the influence it has in society and the feeling of security, the hope for another life.

  • God is jealous of us humans, that's why he took so early Wolfgang and Arleen

    :(

  • "I was staring through the cage of those meticulous ink strokes ... at an absolute beauty"

  • I have never listen music with so much love, compassion. When I hear this music I understand the love of God and that he will forgive all sins of humanity

  • i must comment on this again an again --Auger and that voice is tremendously great together along with mozart.--fantastic!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think God sent Mozart to the Earth to listen His own music, and sent Bernstein to replay it! Listening these works you can measure how far the human beauty can go!

  • I'm crying like an idiot...What a beauty!!!

  • Sadly, those who aren't traditional Catholics can never fully appreciate this.

  • @Jitpring those who aren't traditional catholics can appreciate this because we are humans too

  • @Jitpring: Anyone with a soul who isn't devoid of human emotion can appreciate this beautiful music. I would, however, point out that only Catholics can transcend an ordinary appreciation of the music and fully embrace the sacredness of both the music and text. It's no accident that the greatest of composers were Roman Catholic. Ad majorem Dei gloriam!

  • @UND1989 Well put. I completely agree, as my use of the word "fully" indicates. I'd also point out that my use of the word "traditional" implies that those Catholics who attend the vandalized Mass - i.e., the Novus Ordo - are barred from fully appreciating this music.

    Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

  • Of all of Mozart's works this one every single time raises the hackles of my spine, makes my hair stand on end and fill my eyes with tears. EVERY SINGLE TIME. This opening Kyrie is in my opinion the greatest single piece of music in any medium. It will never be surpassed.

  • Auger's voice is beyond description au dela

  • every time i listen to this is like the first time, music from the soul. no words

  • which church is this?

  • @Imperatormudi The church is the "Stiftsbasilika" in Waldsassen, a small bavarian town

  • I don't know what to do with this. Adding it to my favorites isn't enough.

  • Gracias, genio!

  • Is my favorite piece Musical!!!

It is the best beatiful wrote!

  • is really hard to believe that Mozart was not in the company of angels when he wrote this music.

  • Divine!

  • simplemente, espectacular

  • Arleen Auger---What a beautiful soul--i indeed love this arrangement--unlike any requiem --so touching. bless your spirit Arleen Auger--long live Arleen!!!!

  • This is one of best compositions of Mozart. One of his top 10, in my opinion.

I did a arrangement for one piano from the conductor score of this Kyrie. It's a Mozart's spectacular work.

  • I agree! This belongs definitely to my top 10 of favourite Mozart pieces. I can recommend the version by Herreweghe (harmonia mundi) however, absolutely the TOP performance by far i.m.o.! Perfect balance and lucidity in all parts.

  • I've done this score.

  • Mozart un genio ... Tu musica viene directa desde el cielo.

     A tus pies...Rey de Reyes ...

  • fucking beautiful

  • The best work ever written in music history: this is Beauty! I cry each time I listen to, but I don't feel alone...

  • Wunderbare Arleen Auger, wunderbarer Leonard Bernstein!

  • 4:20-6:00.

Probably the most transcendent bars in the history or music? I just cannot comprehend how a human being could possibly write this.

  • Great Mass as the tittle named indeed and I'm not scorn the magnificent piece of Mozart here it's remarkable but you should then to listen to J.S.BACH MORE

  • I've always viewed this ability of a particular work of art, to elude even the slightest grasp of how it ever came to be, as a reliable mark of its position among the highest order of the works of the human imagination.

  • @Verticaldiscourse I agree with you wholeheartedly............. her voice is ineffable the only adjective I can conjure up. Ineffable is a adjective used often to describe God in the tradition of the Fathers of the Church............... unspeakable!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree of all his compositions this one fills my eyes with tears every single time. This Kyrie in my opinion will never be matched my anyone ever. Period. My favorite of all his works.

  • @Verticaldiscourse probably coz he wasnt human

  • @Verticaldiscourse I cannot comprehend how a human being could live without this

  • @Verticaldiscourse When Leopold Mozart spoke of young Wolfgang as being a miracle, he was speaking quite literally.

  • listen closely at 4:53 it sounds like bernstein is grunting. LOL

  • divine music!

  • Is very difficult to think that Mozart was not in the company of God and angels when he wrote this music...

  • 4:22-4:29

  • 400,000 words in the english language and not one defines how good that solo is.

  • Wow this has to be the best version I've ever heard too.

  • I'm sure Mozart would have been smiling in heaven.

  • This is by far the best version of the Kyrie of this Great mass in C by Mozart that I've ever heard.

  • who would not be blisssed by this perfection and enchantment made sounds!!!

  • Shostakk, let's God bless you! Thanks for this...very Divine!!!I'm sure that God will be happy after listen this!!!

  • many ppl knows the Kyrie, but ALL this mass it`s just a "Mona lisa" off erudit and classsic music-STUNNING MASTERPIECE

  • somebody knows the name of the soprano?

  • Soprano: Arleen Auger

    Mezzo-soprano: Frederica von Stade

    Tenor: Frank Leopardo

    Bass: Cornelius Hauptmann

    Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks

    Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks

    Conductor: Leonard Bernstein

Recording: Stiftsbasilika, Waldsassen (Bavaria); 4-5 April 1990

  • OMFG this soprano is... i can't communicate with my own words what i'm feeling now

  • After hearing mozart really few pieces of modern music are still enjoyable.

  • WONDERFUL!!!

-The best of Albinoni is ADAGIO

-The best of Bach is Air on a G string and Toccata Fugue

-The best of Beethoven is Moonlight sonata

-The best of Vivadi are Four seasons

-The best of Schubert is Ave Maria

-The best of Chopin are his ballads and nocturnes

And the best from Mozart is Requiem and Great Mass - WONDERFUL!!!

  • You really think the best from Beethoven is the "Moonlight"? Not the 9th?

  • Well, but dont dramatize!

And now, a little (but respectful) joke: Have you seen Richard Widmark in first line of mens choir?

  • This performance is even more emotive if we think about Auger retired two years later, in February 1992, after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour, a mass in the right parietal lobe of her brain which turned out to be a giant cell blastoma. After three brain surgeries, she died at the age of 53 in Barneveld, Leusden (the Netherlands) where she had lived during her illness. Once more, Got wanted to take the best ones with him!

  • I discovered this masterpiece in salzburg in a live performance two years ago

this is divine music and this version is one of the best I found

    thnx for uploading

  • what catherdal was this shot at

  • This is recorded in Basilika Waldsassen, Bavaria, Germany.

  • Sublime beyond words. And Arleen Auger is just tremendous.

  • Thank you Mozart, for your 35 yrs in this planet.

  • 4:22-4:30

  • Yes, daniel01141975, you are all right... 4:22-4:30: absolutely wonderful... but, what do you think about 5:02-6:00?...

Every time I hear this passage, my heart burst into tears, I can't avoid it.

  • Comment removed

  • Why him? and not me. Absolutly beauty.

  • Marvelous performance. Does anyone know where can I find this DVD ?

  • Deutsche Grammophon DVD 00440 073 4240.

You can to try find it in eBay, Amazon, etc.

  • God truly lived through this man.

  • Actually made me cry. I thought the Barbara Bonney version was good, but this was a phenomenal experience.

  • 5:02-6:00... It made me cry too.

  • What a beautiful, Her voice reminds me of an opera singer i know. Such immense Beauty in such voices tas that of Arleen Aguer and Others! (: What amazing talent. I hope to be just like her! (:

  • Bone chilling..the beauty of Auger's voice is divine. WOW..i agree this is Mozart at his best!!

  • Absolute perfection... thanks, Wolfgang, Auger, Bernstein... the world is better now, we are better now

And now, no more words... silence... here is the hand of God.

  • Wonderful piece this. Mozart at his imperious best. Maybe the hand of God was guiding his hand as he composed this.

  • I LISTENED OVER 5 VERSIONS, AND THIS IS THE BEST I EVER IMAGINE...AURLEEN IS THE MAIN DIFFERECE, AND BERNSTEIN'S TEMPO'S TOO. It's absolutly perfect, maybe, GOD put his hand two century ago in an incredible man called MOZART.

  • I AWARD THIS 4 1/2 GRYPHONS...THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DENSITY OF THE CONFLICT BETWEEN ATTACHMENT AND TRANSGIENCE...ALONG WITH THE tearfully fragile soul muttering of "Ach du lieber Gott, alles ist wirklich vergeblich,so seh'ich jetzt..." is successfully conveyed here. The singer uses fragility and

vulnerability like the sharpest hand-forge welded Damascus sword.

  • Great but I wish I could hear more of the choir. It sounded like they were being recorded 100 yards away.

  • Arleen Auger's rendition is simply divine.

  • Man, what technique and tone....arleen Auger was certainly one of the greats...pity she was taken from us too soon....Brava!!!

  • simplemente espectacular!!!!!!!

  • She is absolutely perfect for this MOST incredible piece of music! K427 is one of the world's most transporting, inspired masterpieces and this opening section may be its pinnacle. Bernstein's tempo seemed a little on the slow side at first, rather heavy-handed, but Auger filled every moment with her full lyric sound, yet with that incredible detailed filigree. I'll sleep in peace tonight!

  • Hi! As a matter of fact, it`s been a little over TWO centuries since his passing ( 1791 ) but I couldn`t agree more... after all this time, his music is still with us, being played the world over, being recorded... Wolfie is a smash hit and he`ll continue to be long after we are gone. God bless.

  • Beyond the idea of music!

I usually prefer performances from smaller orchestras with original instruments, baroque phrasing, but this is still the best performance I´ve yet seen live or recorded. Such a vitality from Mr. Bernstein and M. Auger. AWESOME.

  • This version puts Gardiner's version to shame. Whereas Gardiner appears to deliberately minimize the emotions, Bernstein expresses them. Gardiner's cool and clipped version is quite pathetic next to Bernstein's.

  • I'm an Alto, and I had the oportunity to sing it! Such an honor

  • Congratulations!!!

  • Inspiration. I can't believe it's been uploaded, thank you so much. Pure pathos, Arleen's singing is what the Heavens long to hear from humanity. Delight in her beautiful voice here in a later stage of her career, which was so abruptly cut off. Notice the mature chest notes in the lower passage: impressive for the lighter nature of her heavenly instrument.

  • Ditto!!! First thing I noticed in this recording. Her chest tones are awesome(more focused than heaver voices I've heard sing this) and quite a nice contrast to her silky upper register. I wonder if Mozart wrote the two low notes specifically for such contrast.

Glad someone else appreciates solid focused chest voice.

  • I remember when I first heard this on CD. I had goosebumps, and still do, when Arleen Auger's beautiful voice enters. So sad that she, and of course, Bernstein are no longer with us. A great loss to music in general. Many thanks for posting this great work.

  • I love this performance I have it on CD awesome
