@leptismagna Another silly point which does not remotely follow from my previous post. If you are a rationalist, please demonstrate this by making rational statements, not non sequiturs.
@UND1989 LOL, i meant the goat thing as a pagan reference, i wasn't even thinking about the OT or judeo-christian scripture. sounds like you say a lot the words "that was the old testament, but jesus came and kissed it all better".
But thanks for demonstrating that there's really no fundamental difference between pagan rituals and whatever abra-cadabra religion you are now.
You must have absolutely no idea how music works. kinda like how some think the gods makes the tide go up and down maybe.
this music is beautiful, but there is nothing miraculous about it. mozart was not known for being any more religious than the average wolfgang at the time.
the music would be just as beautiful if he had used words from the quran, or bhagavat gita, or if he wrote his own lyrics.
people who think beauty is a miracle have little to zero imagination. no wonder no religious person was ever seriously talented or useful for anything except destruction.
"Psh. Catholics can all suck my taint. You'll burn with the rest of the infidels who don't worship at the altar of the Flying Spaghetti Monster."
What a tedious comment. As someone who is a non-believer you have just demonstrated once again why I steer clear of the Dawkins tendency. These sites (sublime music that happens to have a religious context) are littered with similar smug and workmanlike rants. If you're so rational why can't you hold an adult conversation?
Divino genio.
if the heart ever knew pain, suffering and joy..it was Mozart..listen people, put a side everything for a moment and equate it to your trials...not the Gods before them...
@Glosuraban do not dispare, not EVERYBODY is fucked up. a lot of people who listen to this music have it on cd or go to live performances. and indeed we are a minority, but know that it is us who know what music stands for, and it stands for the feelings you get when listening to this!
Mozart's genius would have come out whether he was catholic or believed in God or not. Every believers would be geniuses somehow if it were otherwise, but most are in fact not.
God doesn't exist and if he does, its obvious that he couldn't find his way out of a paper bag.
So again, you superstitious "god" people who believe humans aren't good enough to produce beauty like this on their own, keep your nonsense to yourself. Your gods are of little to no use for anything.
@leptismagna10 couldn't agree more, if God exists he is the Devil, yet understand the feeling one must have hearing these texts and actually believing them...
@plagueofangels666 good call, and while the text itself may be moving, they are drawn from ancient myths and were composed by humans as much as this music was. Beauty, truth and love are human emotions / constructs and they have nothing to do with whatever is responsible for this universe.
@leptismagna10 Ah yes, my thoughts exactly! Whatever we have witnessed or experienced as divine is only so because we made divinity up. Why believe in one 'true' god, when there have been so many gods before him? it doesn't make any sence yet people believe it because of the influence it has in society and the feeling of security, the hope for another life.
@leptismagna10 I am one of that "god" people. Let me tell you this: without humans believing in that backwards religion, as you call it, this sort of music never was been written!!! Please don't be so self-conceited about Christianity or other sorts of religion.

I have never listen music with so much love, compassion. When I hear this music I understand the love of God and that he will forgive all sins of humanity
I think God sent Mozart to the Earth to listen His own music, and sent Bernstein to replay it! Listening these works you can measure how far the human beauty can go!
@carlosLor Agreed, you can appreciate it to an extent, even to a great extent, as I did before I was Catholic. But not to the fullest extent. This is why I included the word "fully" in saying saying, "Sadly, those who aren't traditional Catholics can never fully appreciate this."
@Jitpring: Anyone with a soul who isn't devoid of human emotion can appreciate this beautiful music. I would, however, point out that only Catholics can transcend an ordinary appreciation of the music and fully embrace the sacredness of both the music and text. It's no accident that the greatest of composers were Roman Catholic. Ad majorem Dei gloriam!
@UND1989 Well put. I completely agree, as my use of the word "fully" indicates. I'd also point out that my use of the word "traditional" implies that those Catholics who attend the vandalized Mass - i.e., the Novus Ordo - are barred from fully appreciating this music.
Of all of Mozart's works this one every single time raises the hackles of my spine, makes my hair stand on end and fill my eyes with tears. EVERY SINGLE TIME. This opening Kyrie is in my opinion the greatest single piece of music in any medium. It will never be surpassed.
Arleen Auger---What a beautiful soul--i indeed love this arrangement--unlike any requiem --so touching. bless your spirit Arleen Auger--long live Arleen!!!!
I agree! This belongs definitely to my top 10 of favourite Mozart pieces. I can recommend the version by Herreweghe (harmonia mundi) however, absolutely the TOP performance by far i.m.o.! Perfect balance and lucidity in all parts.
Great Mass as the tittle named indeed and I'm not scorn the magnificent piece of Mozart here it's remarkable but you should then to listen to J.S.BACH MORE
I've always viewed this ability of a particular work of art, to elude even the slightest grasp of how it ever came to be, as a reliable mark of its position among the highest order of the works of the human imagination.
@Verticaldiscourse I agree with you wholeheartedly............. her voice is ineffable the only adjective I can conjure up. Ineffable is a adjective used often to describe God in the tradition of the Fathers of the Church............... unspeakable!!!!!!!!!!
I agree of all his compositions this one fills my eyes with tears every single time. This Kyrie in my opinion will never be matched my anyone ever. Period. My favorite of all his works.
This performance is even more emotive if we think about Auger retired two years later, in February 1992, after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour, a mass in the right parietal lobe of her brain which turned out to be a giant cell blastoma. After three brain surgeries, she died at the age of 53 in Barneveld, Leusden (the Netherlands) where she had lived during her illness. Once more, Got wanted to take the best ones with him!
What a beautiful, Her voice reminds me of an opera singer i know. Such immense Beauty in such voices tas that of Arleen Aguer and Others! (: What amazing talent. I hope to be just like her! (:
I LISTENED OVER 5 VERSIONS, AND THIS IS THE BEST I EVER IMAGINE...AURLEEN IS THE MAIN DIFFERECE, AND BERNSTEIN'S TEMPO'S TOO. It's absolutly perfect, maybe, GOD put his hand two century ago in an incredible man called MOZART.
I AWARD THIS 4 1/2 GRYPHONS...THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DENSITY OF THE CONFLICT BETWEEN ATTACHMENT AND TRANSGIENCE...ALONG WITH THE tearfully fragile soul muttering of "Ach du lieber Gott, alles ist wirklich vergeblich,so seh'ich jetzt..." is successfully conveyed here. The singer uses fragility and
vulnerability like the sharpest hand-forge welded Damascus sword.
She is absolutely perfect for this MOST incredible piece of music! K427 is one of the world's most transporting, inspired masterpieces and this opening section may be its pinnacle. Bernstein's tempo seemed a little on the slow side at first, rather heavy-handed, but Auger filled every moment with her full lyric sound, yet with that incredible detailed filigree. I'll sleep in peace tonight!
Hi! As a matter of fact, it`s been a little over TWO centuries since his passing ( 1791 ) but I couldn`t agree more... after all this time, his music is still with us, being played the world over, being recorded... Wolfie is a smash hit and he`ll continue to be long after we are gone. God bless.
I usually prefer performances from smaller orchestras with original instruments, baroque phrasing, but this is still the best performance I´ve yet seen live or recorded. Such a vitality from Mr. Bernstein and M. Auger. AWESOME.
This version puts Gardiner's version to shame. Whereas Gardiner appears to deliberately minimize the emotions, Bernstein expresses them. Gardiner's cool and clipped version is quite pathetic next to Bernstein's.
Inspiration. I can't believe it's been uploaded, thank you so much. Pure pathos, Arleen's singing is what the Heavens long to hear from humanity. Delight in her beautiful voice here in a later stage of her career, which was so abruptly cut off. Notice the mature chest notes in the lower passage: impressive for the lighter nature of her heavenly instrument.
Ditto!!! First thing I noticed in this recording. Her chest tones are awesome(more focused than heaver voices I've heard sing this) and quite a nice contrast to her silky upper register. I wonder if Mozart wrote the two low notes specifically for such contrast.
I remember when I first heard this on CD. I had goosebumps, and still do, when Arleen Auger's beautiful voice enters. So sad that she, and of course, Bernstein are no longer with us. A great loss to music in general. Many thanks for posting this great work.
Beautiful voice- soprano! With a excellent breast low notes as well

Glad someone else appreciates solid focused chest voice.

I remember when I first heard this on CD. I had goosebumps, and still do, when Arleen Auger's beautiful voice enters. So sad that she, and of course, Bernstein are no longer with us. A great loss to music in general. Many thanks for posting this great work.
