LEGENDARY MATCH. The 1st time Hogan poses the roof came off. No stars in WWE currently will ever be in a match like this. EVER. They're trying to re-create this for The Rock Vs Cena but this is once in a lifetime. Besides Rock and Hogan are both true Megastars so it is epic. John Cena is simply no where near The Rock when it comes to star power. Every wrestler on the WWE roster right now combined still can't come close to The Rock.

It makes more sense than the way its done now, i.e. signing random guy like Sheamus or Mason Ryan and immediatly pushing them as a main event singles competitor. Its putting the cart before the horse. Look at Del Rio - they have him come in and beat a former WWE champion on his DEBUT then win the Royal Rumble a few months later - but he gets almost no reaction whatsoever from the fans.

Also Wrestling is considered a fake kids tv programme by the majority now compared to the 70's, 80's and 90's where it was respected and that hurts it alot. @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes I think your right, that Austin was already the super champion but he also peaked very late in his career and didn't have the physical capacity to carry to the championship far enough into the future. He actually suffered what was pretty much a career ending injury in a match with Owen Hart but there was no way the WWF could afford to take the spotlight off such an obviously magnetic wrestling personality. If he hadn't been old and injured the Rock wouldn't have been needed.

As it is, he's not the household name he used to be because he only ever was so insofar as he was "that famous wrestler". Given the kinds of merchandising he did in WWE I'm not sure if it is necessarily true that doing Escape from Witch Mountain and wearing a tutu w/ sparkly wings have translated into a huge payoff. I predict, in diametric opposition to your case, that the Rock will pull a Hogan and make a full time return to wrestling in order to make ANY money as a performer. At least Hogan was past his prime before he did "acting".

ROCK vs. CENA. This aint like Hogan and Rock cause these two can pull a crowd in and keep them forever entertained. No no no NO, this is CENA and THE ROCK, in which Rock is BY FAR running away with this. History repeats itself? Only this time Rock represents old school. To Vince and the WWE writers, don't screw this up, even if you let Cena beat Rock, it has to be at least a 25 minute match and Cena has to use his arsenal 4-5 times to beat THE ROCK. Make it believable. But still, CMON ROCK!
