I don't think anyone can really argue that illumina isn't the top-of-the-line right now. the data will speak much louder than any of these ads will.
Microsoft is still the industry standard compared to apple. i can't think of a single company that uses apple OS (except for maybe apple itself) as their standard OS.
so why would i switch from industry standard? PGM needs to make a good arguement. not silly ads. i honestly think this hurts, more than helps, their credibility.
How come they can blast the MiSeq for being "vaporware" for the next 6 months, and then the next week announce the "One-Touch", which also isn't available for the next 6 months? Hypocrites.
NICE ad !! :-) really funny.. i mean come on... it is guys !! but yep, u ve to wait 6 months to get the same amount of sequences, and yep, u need double the money to get all the equipment u need to sequence with the ion torrent, ... and yep, the pre-sequencing part is still a mess for the ion torrent compared to the MiSeq, i m curious about the new machine they presented last week for automating the library prep: how much $? when? how much time to load the ion? .....
@bozleh Do you know how many ancillary instruments you have to purchase on top of the so called PGM? It ends up costing more than a MiSeq with all the extras for it to "work". You still have to do PCR, with all the fuss and the biased, spend way more time on sample prep, wait days (5) instead of hours (8) for sequencing and end up with a fraction of an unreliable throughput that you cannot publish. A serious sequencer advertises itself with publications, not with viral videos, what a joke!
looking at specs, looks like data output on the miseq is still higher, even with the enhanced number of runs with the PGM. 6 runs on PGM = 1 run on miseq. trolling? you need two pgm to get the same output, no wonder it's cheaper.
The footprint for the two looks the same as well. but the MiSeq is standalone. it looks like the PGM needs extra computing equipment. So i can wait 6 months for the MiSeq, or i can wait 6 months for the 318 chip? I'm not seeing the arguement yet. Is there a saving for hands on time? MiSeq has been claiming 15 minutes. . .
@Onisake12 With Nextera it's roughly 2 hours, bit less,15min hands on. But the real added value is the range of applications MiSeq offers. Knowing illumina they will come up with product-specific protocols at launch so...
It's one thing to parody Apple for the sake of creating a parody. This however, is just stealing Apple's advertising idea wholesale. When I see something like this, it just makes me think that Ion Torrent are incapable of coming up with original ideas of their own. It would be funnier, and more relevant, if Apple hadn't of stopped showing these commercials a year ago.

this will blow the pac bios and complete genomics of the world away! what a joke those machines are, ~$500K for unproven specs!

@shanghaitng sorry, my english is poor, what do you mean by "blow of the world away"? Is it sarcasm?
sorry for dumb question

Anybody else think that the guy playing "MiSeq" ironically looks a lot like Greg Lucier? lol

"Who would wait 6 months for that?"
Someone who wants more than 15mb of sequence I guess.

@Onisake12 The 318 chip that will be launch by the same time that Miseq is available will have 1Gbp throughput.

While I like this spoof overall, Life Technologies / Ion Torrent made a key misstep that Apple's marketing team did not.
Curious? We address it on our blog. Check the biobm.com website.
