Wrestling was in very bad shape at this point. The WWF was aimed at 6 year olds, Crocket was fading away and in trouble. The territories were all closed.
It made me so sad to turn on the TV and watch any wrestling as all I could do was remember what was and what would never be again.
Probably overdue. Lawler became champ at a time when the AWA was falling apart and was on the downside of his in-ring skills, which seemed to peak in the early 80's. Still, he had tremendous mic skills and did some nice things as the AWA champ. After not getting paid for Superclash he no-showed his subsequent appearances and was stripped of the title.
jerry lawler was always my favorite wrestler in the awa.
