I still do not know even to this day how on earth Yuna was placed third...I love this program so much and the thought of knowing that she was in a lot of pain with her back make it even more amazing....she skated her heart out on this championships!

In my humble opinion, Yu-Na should have taken the gold, Yukari the silver (what a crime that she didn't even make the podium after that stellar performance), Mao the bronze, and Kostner 4th. With all those wobbles in her program I really don't see how Kostner made the podium. One of the weirdest judging decisions I've ever seen. Seemed to me like they were in favor of the Europeans that night.

Strong and beautiful performance. You could make a strong case for her to have won here. I love how her technique is so solid and hardly ever breaks down. Just got a little unlucky in the short program but this freeskate def deserved it's 1st place finish. :)

Yu-Na's my number one favorite skater and I believe that right now she's completely unrivaled. That said, Mao deserved her gold medal that year. I just watched her free skate at this event, and being objective, she was amazing and outshone Yu-Na (though Yu-Na was impressive too). Those complaining here clearly didn't see how brilliantly Mao pulled herself together after that horrible fall and what deep emotion she put into her skating.

@centhoover I totally agree. Her scores should have been much higher and I still can't believe that she lost against Carolina Kostner. This Worlds was obvious in pushing their European No.1 Star. And Mao Asada, her fall on triple axel left her just skating around for nearly 20 seconds without any coreography. And still she gets the gold medal, very hard to understand

Mao definitely deserved the gold this year!! I am a huge Yu-Na fan, but it is clear in this program just how much improving she still needed to do before she could win this year. Her jumps were great as always but her landing positions were not what they are now... her spiral was weak (Even Dick said, "Turn your foot out there!"), and she also had the pop on that lutz. Remember, she was only 17 here!! This was a great program but she was skating like a teenager, not like the way she skates now.

sorry, it's true she was the best in the 08-09 season, but in the 2008 was Carolina Kostner, who has the combo + high of all the ladies 3F-3T-2Loop, it's too bad that Kostner isn't a consistent skater.
