This was a cool vid. I've had Verizon for 6 years and when I drove from Seguin, TX to Los Angeles I was a bit dissapointed with the service from Verizon. Only in major cities could I get an actual Verizon tower which meant that was the only time I could get on the web, use VZ navigator and so forth. That really sucked. However, I still will not use any other service provider. And now, when the merger is complete, that I-10 corridor should be almost perfect.
Alltel has always shared it's towers with Verizon you can't do * 228 when your roaming and it doesn't matter Verizon bought Alltel, there will be no more Alltel by the end of the year.
By the way I thought you did a good job on your video, I think it will be interesting to see Verizon become the biggest cell phone company in the United States
Well thats interesting.. I guess you guys didnt know that ALLTEL roams USING VERIZON towers.. yeah roaming agreements.. FLASHING roaming indicatos is flashing, SOLID is Scary because you are roaming on a provider that has no agreement.
Again.. if its flashing , most likely you got VERIZON signal heh.
I am aware of the roaming agreements between the carriers, however thanks for you input.. One thing to add from PHX to Austin on I-10 if you look at lisencing maps it Verizon that roams on Alltel all through Texas..
Your claim is untrue. Alltel phones will blink indicator as soon as you are outside of your home area regardless of whether you pick up from alltel or other carriers. Based on footprint Alltel does have more coverage in areas tested. One of the reasons for the merger is Alltels capacity in midwest, south and southwest. Either way, Alltel is more likely to pick up from sprint (which is pretty bad) rather than verizon, until PRL 30034 is pushed though.
*228 only changes the prl in the phone so that did nothing fo you man. If you have an up to date phone that is more like a placebo. To bad for verizon, no one is buyin into that britian vodophone crap any more
Yeah, Which is kind of a bummer, would be nice if it was Alltel's own coverage to test out there. Perhaps on that trial ill do a Verizon, AT&T, Alltel match, due to that factor.
I do plan on conducting a test in CA, from PHX TO LA on I-10. In addition Im aware that Alltel lacks there "own" towers in CA. So due to that factor it would be more of a test to Alltel's roaming partner in CA, which is shared by both Sprint, and Verizon. Nevertheless, it would still be good data to have.
um correction, co678 I was in California and got PERFECT signal all the way to Lone Pine.... this was first hand using my Alltel lg ax830 (glimmer) so it doesn't matter if they use other carriers towers. Verizon uses A LOT of Alltel towers as well
I thought I would reply to this comment. To answer your question, I do update my phone frequently with (*228), and did so before the test was conducted. Thank you for watching, I hope it helps you on information regarding coverage.

Verizon users and get ANY signal in my parents neighborhood, but Alltel users can get at least 3 bars. There's seperate towers there at least.

Yup, Alltel IIRC, only provides CA coverage around San Diego and around the Eastern Part of the state by Yosemite.

Come to California and do that test...Verizon will kill Alltel, alltel covers like a total of 1% of the CA population.
