That first scene from Pet Semetary used to royally fuck with me as a kid. Its so stupid now, but I lost sleep over it for a while. Now anything weirdly chasing me fast or sudden movements still scare me.

Both totally nightmare-inducing and a completely distorted idea of what spinal meningitis actually is. Of course I guess you can argue that the monstrous woman is just Rachel's childhood conception of that. As a child I was far more terrified of the scenes she was still restricted to her bed, she loses believability once she's running around and I noticed that even as a kid.

The crucifix scene starting at 3:00 - there was a statue of some sort that was said to have opened its eyes somewhere, recently too. That particular crucifix, I thought was actually in the film, The Keep by Michael Mann, in the church scene. Looked at the film, and it wasn't in the film (actually filmed in Britain).

For a really scary film without any gore try Inland Empire. I think this is one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen. It is also brilliant and it will have you thinking about it for days afterwards.
